Hey gang! It’s me, Brian, your host for the evening. I’ve been tasked with having to watch my favorite show early every week and walk you through it. Rough, right? But work is work, and I must soldier on. So let’s just jump right in.
When last we visited our survivors they’d just launched an assault on Woodbury to get Maggie and Glenn back, lost Daryl in the process, and picked up some new residents back at the prison. Oh, and the last thing we saw was a cage match about to begin between Daryl and long-lost brother Merle.
Which is exactly where we pick up: Daryl vs Merle surrounded by walkers, fight to the death, winner goes free. Brutal. Merle yells out that he’s loyal to the town and then whales on Daryl. Daryl starts to put up a fight but Merle lets Daryl know he has a plan, “Just follow my lead little brother, we’re gettin’ out of this. RIGHT NOW.” Of course it’s Merle, so his plan is to just punch a lot of walkers while Andrea yells for someone to stop the fight. Luckily Maggie and Rick show up, open fire, and lob in a smoke grenade. Some bystanders get hit, including a young girl. Daryl grabs his crossbow back from one of The Governor’s men and they make a break for it with Rick and Maggie. Cue opening credits. Breathe.
We come back to the group making their escape. Merle leads them out, despite Rick wanting nothing to do with him. As they make their way back to their car, we see a walker heading into Woodbury through the gap they left in the fence. You know how your parents would always yell at you to not leave doors open? This is exactly why.
Michonne and Glenn have been waiting and are most definitely not pleased to see Merle. Merle, bastion of good grace he is, antagonizes and mocks them. Don’t you change, Merle. Rick tells Daryl that he’s part of their family, but ultimately they’re unwilling to let Merle come back with them. Daryl, ever the family man, chooses big brother Merle, gets extra supplies, and heads off with Merle while Rick and company drive off.
Back at the prison, Hershel is patching up newcomer Allen’s leg while the two groups get a little more acquainted. When Tyreese hints at staying at the prison Hershel warns him not to get comfortable, and insinuates that Rick might not be very welcoming. The newcomers bring Donna’s (Allen’s deceased wife) body to the yard to bury her. Allen and his son Ben hatch a plan to take Carol and Carl’s guns, kick Rick’s group to the curb, and take the prison for themselves. Tyreese and Sasha are hesitant to go along with it. It’s a moot point however when Axel and Beth come out with tools and are super nice, defusing the situation.
While all this is happening, Rick, Maggie, Glenn, and Michonne are driving back to the prison. When they happen upon a truck stalled in the middle of the road, Glenn goes to pop the brakes only to find a hungry walker in the driver’s seat. Glenn doesn’t miss a beat, he grabs it, throws it down, and stomps its head into the ground repeatedly until he breaks down in tears. He’s pissed that The Governor is still alive and wondering what’s going to happen when he comes for them at the prison.
Meanwhile, Andrea is dealing with some very unhappy residents in Woodbury. While The Governor is holed up in his apartment, the soldiers are trying to stop everyone else from leaving (and doing a pretty crappy job of it). Just when things are about to get out of control, screaming erupts a block away. A couple of walkers have clearly found Rick’s exit hole. Andrea and one of The Governor’s men run to take care of them, but not before they get to a couple unfortunate residents. As one of the victims lies on the ground moaning, Andrea stands there asking someone to do something. The Governor walks out, shoots him in the head, and walks back inside. Pretty easy, Andrea.
We switch back to Carol and Carl having a little heart-to-heart about the world now and how Lori was proud of Carl. Carl remains skeptical. He’s becoming a teenager so fast. Rick and co. show up and break the news to Carol that Daryl has decided to head off with Merle. Carol kind of tearfully accepts it. They don’t care nearly as much about the fact that Oscar actually died.
As they regroup at the prison, Andrea confronts The Governor. He says that the people of Woodbury are too soft and it’s time to get tough. Then he tells Andrea that Daryl was there to get Maggie and Glenn and they killed 6 people escaping. Andrea is stunned. When the doc shows up to tell The Governor that the people are gathering again and might cause a scene, The Governor just goes about his business while Andrea looks on.
Rick comes back into the Prison to find some new guests. He walks right by them without a word so he can check on Lil Ass Kicker Judith. He holds her but instead of the happy, proud dad, he looks like he’s about to heave, so things are maybe not great in Rickville.
Andrea faces down a potential mob over in Woodbury. She talks to them about how they’re going to rebuild, how they’ll survive and go down in history as the cradle of civilization (I’m summarizing). Everyone kind of rallies around her. The Governor watches from the window. Happy that he has a little clone? Threatened by Andrea’s rising profile? Wondering why Andrea didn’t split when she found out her friends were still alive and secretly being held prisoner by a man that forces people to fight to the death?
Before we get answers to those questions we check in on Carol and Beth talking about Daryl. Carol sympathizes with Daryl but also realizes that she’s stronger than she was when the outbreak hit. She says that “Daryl has his code.” Wire reference? While Beth and Carol tend to the baby, Hershel tends to Glenn. He tells Glenn that he thinks of him as a son. Is it just me or is it a little dusty in here? Hershel pops over to the cell next door and checks on Maggie. He can see she’s on the fringe and he begs her not to let go.
Hershel continues on his rounds and tells Rick that Michonne could be fit to leave in a couple days. Next item of business: the new people. Even though everyone agrees that they need more people in case The Governor shows up, Rick tells Tyreese and his group that they’ve got to go. It’s too risky. Hershel pulls Rick aside and just when it seems he’s convinced Rick to let them stay Rick sees a shadowed figure in a dress up on the balcony. I think it’s safe to assume that it’s Lori, graduating from phone calls to actual visits.
Rick does not take this well. He starts yelling “GET OUT! YOU DON’T BELONG HERE! GET OUT!” and waving his giant gun everywhere. Needless to say, Tyreese and his people beat a hasty exit. Everyone looks at Rick like “what the fu-” and Rick looks down at his gun and we hit the credits.
So that’s it! The start of the second half of season 3. Sorry that was super long, but premieres are important and I wanted to get it all. What did everyone think of tonight’s episode? Is Rick going to relent and let Tyreese into the jail? How long before Daryl and Merle try to make moonshine? What the hell is Andrea thinking? Where is Rick on the crazy scale?
Comic fans, let’ s keep spoilers light in the comments for the people that haven’t had a chance to read the comic yet. Notice I said “yet,” TV show fans. GET ON IT.
Rick is cracking up since the death of his wife and making reckless decisions to not accept new members into their group who can actually help them defend against the Governor. The group needs to lock him in a cell until he regains his senses & bring the Dixon brothers back into the fold again.
I like how the show illustrates two different forms of how tyrants live in fear and wrath. I’m guessing that the people of Rick’s group are going to make Rick step down, either gently or by force.
I don’t think they’ll make him step down…at least not permanently. He’s brought them too far for them to replace him. He probably has to have a reality check to break him out of this madness and it’s gonna take a major event to do it. This is his story.
At least not permanently is the key phrase. I’m just going off the comic book, so you’re probably right. They will most likely use one triggering event to snap him out of it. I’d rather them stick closer to the source and have him gently step down but still be the focus of the show, and then have a situation when the time calls for him to retake the leadership role.
I just started with the comics so I have no clue about what direction any situation could go…which almost makes me want to pause reading. The whole show for me is one big element of surprise and I love that!
Do remember that two of those members wanted to kill Ricks group… As much as they need the help from others, I would not trust them with a gun for a while.. Maybe get to know them and eventually they would open up that the two young guys were planning to kill them. That would dramatically boost their reputation with Rick and the gang.
Great episode, but why have Comic Book boy on The Talking Dead? An audience member would be much better than this cat
This was a plug for his new season premiere. I thought he was a funny guy.
Rick’s melt down is troubling and Darryl leaving the flock leaves the group vulnerable
Why Daryl why!!!!!!!
Un less ur stall 4 time the blk n wht replay is not kool. Rick needs 2 b placed n iso segregation 4 a spell. Lori was over due the baby being born was the second best thing she did. Of course her son is the man! The two redneck brothers were meant 4 each other. Time will tell about everybody else…….
daryl why did u leave ?????
yes why, and hope he comes b ack , I don’t really want to watch with out him!!
Well, if you’re Daryl, the last time you left your brother’s side, he ended up having to cut his hand off. And we know that Daryl thought he was dead and felt major guilt over this. So without a ton of time to think about, he sees this as redemption. It’s his big brother. I’m assuming (hoping) he’ll reconsider after about a day of listening to Merle. I haven’t watch the next episode yet, so I don’t know.
Agree, he is loyal to family and the blood is thicker than water!! But, dang, Daryl isn’t nothing like Merel. And then what about Carol and Lil Ass Kicker!! Surely he will come back. He is my Favorite on that show. It will be hard to watch without him and his bad ass self!!!
so messed up
Andrea is a lost cause reality has bit her n the ass numerous times n she is still around. How much of a bitch does she have 2 b! I recall her from day one putting a gun n Ricks face PLSSSS…….
Can Andrea do anything to redeem herself? How did she not bounce when she finds out her friends are alive and were being held prisoner by her boyfriend? Instead she gives a rousing speech? What do you guys think?
She’s got to still be a little ticked off at the group for leaving her at the farm.even though they all thought she was dead. So a little bad blood like merl has
Sure hope Daryl comes back. I don’t really want to watch without him. Do not care much for his bro.
Admittedly, Merle is a grade-A prick. But how badass was it when he turned that walker’s head into a smoothie with his metal arm as they were leaving Woodbury?
If you put the governor Hershel and Merl together you have a pirate
Winner.
Yup. Ricks cheese has slipped off his cracker, and that’s bad for the group Glad Glenn is finally waking up his inner beast! Not surprised Daryl left with Merle, but after watching the sneak peek vid, it seems there is a good bit of disharmony between the 2 Dixons and Daryl seems to be regretting his decision to leave the group.
I would worry about the 2 new guys that wanted to take down Carol and Carl. Meryl has got to go…..don’t cut his arm off, cut his tongue out!!!!!!
no kidding , he is such a smart *ss
OMG!!!!! Rick’s cheese has slid off his cracker….Tyreese could be a good leader. Has Rick reached a point that he can’t return from?
Andrea is now set to become the leader of Woodbury after her speach!!
Yes I see that too, but will the governor squash her? And when is she going to break out of that choosing the wrong guy thing? WAKE UP ANDREA!!
I love how they get zombies right off the street and put them in the show. One should be so lucky!
So hoping that Abraham comes on the show
This needs to happen. My favorite character from the comics.
Andrea is now set to take over running Woodbury after that speech!!
Here’s a twist…..Shane standing by Lori with his arm around her…….
Did it look like Beth had the hits for Rick ? She’s taking care if the baby and everything something to think about. It will cause Hershel and Carl to get mad at him
It did indeed, but that’s kinda weird to think about.. Especially her age and being in the apocalypse.. I would get very uncomfortable if that was turning out to be true. Maybe she’s just seeing Rick as a father figure more? Like she’s his little girl and he’s protecting her. I have to admit though.. that the first thing that popped in my head was she was falling for Rick.. I doubt it’s that way though.
To me it looked more like a relationship between like an uncle and his niece. Nothing weird or sexual, its just that they’re family now and they all made it back safe and he saved her sister. I think it was more of a “thank god everything is ok”and “thanks for risking your neck for the millionth time” kinda thing.
Yeah, similar, but also different. I guess I should have used that example as it’s better suited to the situation…
up orderlies !!!! Rick has lost it again!!
daryl is awesome i hope he dont die
Think Rick lost it at the wrong time. Think the group needed Tyrese and his people.
when will we see the African American family that help Rick on the first episode
That would possibly help Rick when he desperately needs help..good idea
Rick needs a shovel in the face from Duane right now.
for reals ive been wonderin that
If you remember in the first episode of season one, Rick gives Morgan a sheriff bag. Which makes me think the one the Governor has is Morgan’s.
Or its the bag Andrea had when found by Michone
Thanks for the reminder
I can picture a reunion right when the show runs its last airing.
I´m worry if Daryl is not there specilly if Rick´s fricking out!! I´m affraid if Glenn get violance like a new Shane, and I happy that Carol say that she would say “go to hell” to Daryl.
Rick needs to get it together. Could use the Dixon brothers and Tyrese and his group.
Ghost Lori is a bit much!
Agree…it seemed a little cheesy. A voice inside Rick’s head would’ve been much more plausible. But they already attempted that with the telephone.
i wasnt a ghost it was a hallucinantion…
i really hope glen doesnt die because i feel he can be the next leader of the group
Daryl so would have kicked Merls butt at Woodbury
you are so right and he needs a few knocks on the head also!
i feel that daryl is going back with the group because his brother is going to betray him.
Seems like Rick has a few screws coming unscrewed!! Get a grip!!
At the end of the episode in the preview there was a quick shot of a lady looking person with kinda wavy hair. I wonder who it was O_o
not Lilly. I believe her name is Karen, a resident of Woodbury. You can see her with a small line during the walker attack inside the town during the day.
Ive been hoping that they would introduce Lily. Oh well! But if its Karen she must have some significance by showing her in the preview.
in all honesty, one of the best episodes of season three. a few things ive noticed from watching season 3 trailers and reading discussions on here, Dixons must return. fan base will drop drastically if Daryl’s gone. A new Leadership role must be made, Carl mentioning it in a trailer i had seen earlier today, maybe he will be taking the torch from his father and leading the group to a more successful run then Rick. In my opinion, best move, the kid is obviously breed for this. not only has he grown so much from season 1, but he has played an entirely new role since Shane’s death, not to mention his mothers. He is becoming a man, he is a man, and the fact of the matter is, there is no one better to lead the group.
concerning Daryl and Merle. they’ll be back. they gotta, where the hell else can they go? Back to the Governor and Andrea? take their chances on the road? they will come back and Merle will become a valued member of the group just as much as Daryl has.
as for Andrea…. who the hell cares? she doesnt know what the fuck to do, and i cant blame her. shes caught in a fight between her family (Rick and the gang) and Woodburry.and in all honesty, she should stay in Woodburry. She had plans of leaving the group anyway with Shane. and if i were Rick Maggie and Glenn i wouldnt let that bitch within 100 yards of the prison after what Merle told me. if you see her, you know trouble is right around the corner.
which leaves me with the king of madness himself, The Governor. he wants blood. thats all he ever wants. the world has changed him into a broken man (kind of like Rick) and he has lost everything now. he will make it his mission to see Michone die, and her sword to be the tool that makes that fantasy a reality.
now im not sure i agree with Rick about Michone. for a multiply amount of reasons. 1. She is STONE COLD B.A.M.F. and can do just as much work as Rick does.2. she has proven herself worthy to the group, not only helping Rick and the others with the rescue of Glenn and Maggie, but in helping them realize that there is a much bigger threat out there then a heard. and that it is on their door step waiting to kick the door down. 3. They need all the help they can get. point. blank. period. just like they need Tyreese and his group. and 4. without her Judith would have died. and Rick owes his life to her whether he realizes it now or not.
sorry this is so damn long, had to get all my thoughts down. thats what this is for anyway!!!!
I don’t think it’s Carl’s time just yet, He’s still a child, even with how much he has grown. He can still very well make the same mistakes and some could even have a worse outcome. Look at the two members of the group he saved, they wanted to kill him and Carol and the rest of them. That could have turned out very badly. In this case, it didn’t, which is great, but it was risky. Glenn has a better shot and it would help him even more with Hershel if pulled it off well. Even though Hershel already likes Glenn a lot.
Ok … loved it…. does anyone remember the name of the actor in the picture on the talking dead?
We’re all entitled to lose our mind every once in awhile…especially during the zombie apocalypse. I’m afraid to see how the group may fall apart without Daryl, Glenn losing himself and Rick about to go off the deep end. And here comes THE GOVERNATOR! Daryl will be back. Kirkman loves ReeDus too much to kill him off….I hope
what happened to the episode where carl’s mom dies an haves the baby? an hershel loses his leg? wtf!!!!
yea rick is losin it and it sucks that deryl left he was alot of help and andrea damn i love her shes awesome i want her back in the gang i cant wait tillnext episode
I love the show. its great. the cast put a lot of them self in 2 too it. Rick’s wife die off the show 2 fast. Rick & his wife has a baby 2 rise. I just love the show, 2night show was really good. thank u 2 the case. They work really hard.
I hope Daryl comes back on the show. There is somone on the show that really care’s for him. We really need him back Daryl, he is really a great guy.
I really feel for Rick. The weight that is on his shoulders is starting to break him down. I don’t know if Hershel has any drugs to sedate Rick, but if he does he needs to put rick down for a few days to let him get rested for the possible attack by the other group. Tyreese’s group may or may not be helpful. The two guys who were trying to talk the group into attempting a take over earlier in the show may not change their plans even if Rick tells them they can stay. I think I would let them stay but make it clear that it is on a trial basis and any missteps by anyone in the group will result in them having to leave immediately.
i thinks that lori is ricks self concious telling him to trust no onekeepin him on his toes even thou hershel kind of cleared it i think he had to put up that wall in his mind [lori] and you know make the choice that would really protect the group of now for now.. which could be a good or bad move i know Ty and his daughter can be trusted but what about the other two who were plotting.. love lori and all but i thought after the broking phone that it was good bye but i would love to see Ghost lori and rick have that last scene where she gives him the closure im guessing the phone couldnt provide so he can at least bring the dixons back or hash it out with ty.. jus think Lori is a brokin switch in rick mind that he has to fix if he wants to continue being the leader n father he was be4 he lost her.. he will pull it together hopefully be4 his hand gets cut off or ty loses his head
Sasha is Tyreese’s sister on the show.
Team daryl.. didnt see both bros making it out alive but i knew daryl would just a shout out to the walking dead get daryl back to the prison n have him put a arrow through the govs other eye… btw dont hate merl but damn it was funny to see rick b**ch chop him
The hallucination of Lori at the end scared the hell out of me. I hope that hallucinations replace the telephone for Rick’s sanity, contrasting with the comics.
Something that I think would be really cool on the show if some of these characters appear on the show. A zombie Jim he got left on a tree in season one. Morgan Rick has to meet up with him again he has not been mentioned on the show in a while. Abraham has got to show up and heck I could even play him “hint hint”
tyreese is an important character in the comics… but then again theres ppl in the comics that were still alive at this stage and are dead in the tv show like dale and sophia. i think their making the tv show with its own storyline so it doesnt matter much just same characters
as far as “rick stepping down” haha read the comics man RICK IS THE DUDE
rick eventually becomes the leader of ALEXANDRIA but thats prolly season 4 or 5
This is close to spoilery, but I’m leaving it up. Anything more spoilerish is going to get edited. Hope that’s cool. I want things to be as fresh as possible for our TV viewers. Not that the story’s are identical, but still.
im really interested in how the tv series deals w the governor…im getting the feeling its rick v. the gov and rick might take him down…or glenn maybe if he aint dead by then. in the comics hes [removed, potential spoiler. -brian]
i love this show but i wish they would tell us more
I wonder how the daughter of Hershel tells Carol that merle was a shit if she started on the second season, and merle has disappeared on the first
One could easily pass that judgment based on what the group has talked about and evidence of what Glenn and Maggie went through.
truthfuly it was great but I kept finding my self thinking that amc was running short on ideas and was pushing it abit
and i do agree wih Jamie Ghost lori was just pushing father away from a great ep…
but it was ok <3
where is the new episode?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
But , he always looked to her for support and answers, he is lost without her,,,so sad
This whole thing with Rick’s hallucination is the stupidest thing you could have come up with. Keep up the inane BS and I’ll find some other program to watch.
why are you messing with rick again? he lsot it and came around and now he’s losing it again…come on leave him alone we need rick to be sane!
Who was that girl who jumped out of the food truck????
btw let merele get munched by zombies we dont want him around!
Who was that girl who jumped out of the zombie food truck?
what do i got to do to be on the show???
why don’t they bring in thermite it would burn the zombies with thermite The products emerge as liquids due to the high temperatures reached (up to 2,500 °C (4,530 °F) with iron(III) oxide)—although the actual temperature reached depends on how quickly heat can escape to the surrounding environment.
cant figure out why they don’t use thermite The products emerge as liquids due to the high temperatures reached (up to 2,500 °C (4,530 °F) with iron(III) oxide)—although the actual temperature reached depends on how quickly heat can escape to the surrounding environment. it would turn them into ash within seconds minutes
