The Walking Dead wrapped up its eighth season with closure instead of cliffhangers. From All Out War ending to Daryl giving Dwight another chance to Negan getting imprisoned, characters seemed to prepare for the new era Scott Gimple’s been hinting at for Season 9.
No moment was more emotional than the final one of the episode, when Rick penned his own letter to his late son Carl while we got a flashback sequence of the two of them before the apocalypse. Rick talks about the “new world,” which is a possible tease for the post-All Out War “New Beginning” storyline in the comics. In case you want to re-read the letter, we included it below:
Dear Carl, I remember. I forgot who I was, you made me remember. I remember that feeling walking with you that day, like I finally knew who I was for the first time in my life. The thing is, we were walking side by side but you were bringing me somewhere. Bringing me here, bringing all of us to the new world, Carl. You showed me the new world. You made it real. I see it, I remember.
