Wow! I never thought Shane would beat Negan! I think it’s time for me to rewatch the first couple of seasons it’s been way too long.
Because Negan isn’t a villain? 😉
Shane was definitely a psycho-villain, but The Governor did so much worse. And I still think Negan should have been in this voting match with The Governor.
I think Shane is loved so much as a villian because he wasn’t the same as people like Negan and The Governor. They were so obviously a typical villian from the beginning and kinda similar in how ruthless they were.
Shane had closer personal connections to Rick, his family and the group. We got to watch his decline into madness, leading to that first great confrontation Rick had with someone – when best friends turned on each other. If I remember correctly, he was the first living person Rick killed on the show, and then he declared the whole “this ain’t a democracy anymore.”
Plus, people have fonder memories of the first two seasons, and Shane doing things like going proper mental and opening that barn, unlike Negan in season seven which has had a more negative reception. People weren’t fond of the conclusion to The Governor’s part either.
But Shane was great from beginning to end, and he still resonates with the characters in present day, i.e. through Judith. He was dangerous in another way. He was more unique than lunatics such as The Governor and Negan.
Really dont think that Shane is a villain. The circumstances made him into a antihero. He had good intentions and he was somewhat a good person. Sure he tried to kill Rick however he did that beeing dead sure that he can protect Lori and Carl. In my opinion it was Lori that broke him to be honest. She was the one which tried to distance herself away from Shane making him believe that there is no one in the world that understands him. Forcing him into trying to take everything back. Thus breaking him from the inside.
