After last week’s tense meeting episode, we get right into some of the immediate fallout this week, namely it’s affect on Andrea and Milton.
We open on a flashback scene of Andrea and Michonne in the wintertime. Andrea asks Michonne about her “pets,” about whether she knew them before. Michonne gives her a pained look and doesn’t answer. All she say is “They deserved what they got. They weren’t human to begin with.”
In current times the Governor is readying some chains for Michonne and looking almost orgasmic doing so.
After the credits, we see Martinez and his crew stocking a Jeep for a full attack. Milton asks about it and then Andrea asks about it. Milton says he’s sure it’s just a “precaution.” He then goes to check on the Governor and sees him laying out more tools for Michonne’s arrival. Milton questions how it’s good for Woodbury, why Michonne matters in the grand scheme of things. The Governor says that his daughter was still alive in there and that “it’s all that matters.”
Not entirely satisfied with this answer, Milton goes to Andrea and tells her about the deal for Michonne and that the Governor is going to kill all of Rick’s group. He then takes her to a room that looks down onto the Governor’s torture chamber. Andrea is fairly shocked. Milton wants her to get to the prison and evacuate them. She wants to kill the Governor instead. When the Governor walks into the torture room she pulls her pistol and wants to do kill him right there but Milton stops her. The Governor whistles a little melody to test a tape recorder he’s going to use.
Back in Andrea’s apartment, Andrea questions how Milton could still be loyal to the Governor. He argues that killing the Governor won’t accomplish anything, that Martinez will just step up and carry out the slaughter against the prison anyway. Milton also believes that there’s still the good person the Governor used to be inside him.
When Andrea leaves, Martinez stops her and says that the Governor is requisitioning all guns and ammo and insists on taking her gun. The Governor shows up and says he kept all the prep from her to keep her safe. She says she just wants to help and the Governor asks her to be there when Rick shows up in case he tries anything. I like watching them both lie to each other.
Over on the other side of town, Sasha and Tyreese are on guard duty and Sasha’s helping Tyreese learn to shoot. He’s a slow study, but it’s nice to see Tyreese and Sasha have some fun.
Andrea shows up and tries to get Tyreese and Sasha to leave their post so she can sneak out. When they don’t fall for it, she makes a beeline anyway. Tyreese grabs her and she pulls a knife on him. Andrea tells them that the Governor is not who he seems to be and that he’s done horrible things. Ultimately they let her go.
When Tyreese and Sasha meet up with the Governor he tells them that Andrea isn’t stable and that she went through a lot before Woodbury. He then switches gears and asks them what she said exactly. Tyreese doesn’t say much, but he says he hopes he didn’t complicate things. Who’s side are you on Tyreese?!
The Governor walks out and runs into Milton. He tells Milton that he’s going after Andrea. Milton asks him to let her go. The Governor gets him to confess that he told her pretty much everything. Classic Milton. Governor, not pleased.
Martinez tells Tyreese and his sister to get ready to go. Allen walks up and chastises Tyreese for letting Andrea go. He wants Tyreese to fall in line. It’s revealed that there’s tension between the two of them over a time Tyreese saved Allen’s wife’s life. Allen’s harbored some pretty serious jealousy ever since. Tyreese does his best to squash it, but Allen seems like kind of a nit wit.
Andrea’s jogging to the Prison when she hears a truck approaching so she runs for safety in the woods, apparently forgetting she’s in a zombie apocalypse. Walkers swarm her pretty fast. She’s able to fight them off with her knife though (Andrea’s gotten really good at close quarters walker killing).
While Andrea continues on, Tyreese, Sasha, Allen, and Ben arrive at their destination with Martinez and his guys. It’s a walker trap. Wind-operated tubes spin and make a howling sound that bring in the walkers who fall into pits. That’s pretty brilliant. When Tyreese learns that they’re going to use the walkers to attack the prisoners he wants nothing to do with it or Woodbury. Allen, on the other hand, is definitely down to murder prisoners. The two of them fight. Tyreese is close to pushing Allen down into the walker pit but decides to let him go.
Back to Andrea who’s cutting across a field when the Governor shows up. He tries to run her down with his truck but she manages to get to the tree line. As night falls she finds some derelict buildings and gets inside just as the Governor arrives. Pretty sure he might be psychic—dude finds her everywhere.
The Governor comes into the building and the two of them play high stakes cat-and-mouse. The Governor starts creepily whistling his tune/lullaby while Andrea runs farther inside, fighting off walkers she comes across. The Governor softly calls for her to come back because they need her. He sounds about as far from sincere as possible.
The Governor starts smashing out windows with a shovel, and banging it on old equipment, occasionally whistling. He’s gone full horror movie killer. Andrea eventually gets to a stairwell that’s full of walkers. Just when it seems like she’s cornered, she opens the stairwell door and uses it to shield herself from the walkers while simultaneously unleashing them on the Governor. The Governor kills as many as possibly until his ammo runs out. He screams and starts hitting walkers as Andrea leaves.
At the walker pit, a bunch of walkers are loaded in a horse trailer and ready to go. Someone (we don’t see who) shows up and burns them, along with all the walkers in the pit.
As morning breaks, Andrea finally makes it to the prison. Relief washes over her and she’s about to signal to Rick when out of no where the Governor tackles her. Rick thinks he sees something but when he double checks there’s nothing.
The Governor rolls back into town and sees Martinez. He only rolls down his window halfway and tells Martinez that Andrea got away. When Martinez tells the Governor that their biters were torched and that Tyreese and Sasha were giving him trouble the Governor tells him to get Tyreese and his crew for him.
When the Governor confronts Tyreese he tells them that the walkers are just for show, to scare Rick’s group. It’s like the flimsiest excuse ever. Tyreese ultimately apologizes and says he won’t act up again. Not sure if I buy it or not, I hope he’s too smart to fall for these lies. The Governor tries to trick Tyreese into admitting that he burned the walkers, but Tyreese has no idea what he’s talking about.
The Governor runs into Milton who says it’s a shame about the pits. The Governor eyes Milton hard (the implication being both that Milton is the arsonist and the Governor knows) and then he goes to his torture room, where we see Andrea tied to the chair.
END.
Wooow, how’s everyone feel about Andrea now? Any more sympathy for her? She’s trying to make the right choice and looks like she’s going to pay dearly for it…
What’s going on with Tyreese? You think he buys the Governor’s bullshit? I really hope not.
Those were some pretty choice zombie kills in the abandoned building, no?
Governor zombie kill of the week
You think, Bigger? I thought you would’ve said whoever that was that lit up the pit! BTW, I look forward to see who you give the Kill of the Week to!
I’m truly scared for Andrea
Who knew the governor was a doctor dentist and a barber all in his spare time
The governor has a magical zombie whistle
Why don’t she taked the governor car?!?!?!
Man no Daryl this week what the hey
To change the subject right quick the evil dead looks B.A.
They need to let McFarland draw for a issue of the comic
You know he did a cover for us, right? http://c534909.r9.cf2.rackcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Walking-Dead-McFarlane-full.jpg
hey Brian,
Yeah I like the cover he did I would really like to see him draw a full issue
The end of this episode really disapointed me. Why didn’t Andrea try the governor’s truck? How dumb was that? What really made me mad was the end. If that ‘prick’ the governor is allowed to torture or kill Andrea, I will not watch this show anymore. I’m getting bored with the governor and his issues anyway. It just keeps dragging out. It’s time to move on.
Imagine the reception she would’ve gotten if she drove that truck up to the prison.
From what I understand from reading & listening to comic book readers, The Governor is not a character meant for a couple of episode fly-bys. He is a major part of the whole story. And when you get tired of him, there are other things going on to look forward to. The way the show moves from one group of people to the next is meant to break the monotony but still keep you in tuned to the characters/situations you didn’t see the week before.
I wondered the same thing…..
Milton is going to be the man that saves Andrea from the Governor
Maybe…but I was wondering how The Governor was gonna deal with Milton. Milton is in deep trouble & may not be able to get anywhere near Andrea. I was thinking that somehow Tyreese/Sasha are gonna be the ones to turn the tables in that situation.
That’s the great thing about this show….it can go in so many different directions! I love its unpredictability!
At this point, I think Milton isn’t on the Gov’s side anymore at all. I’m excited to see how Milton will deal with what’s to come. He’s weak, but hella smart. I have a feeling Milton will be the one to end Governor
I really don’t think Andrea will die. But I’m sure the Governor will give her a scar like in the comics. 🙁
Thank you for the synopsis you leave for the fans every week. We’ll consult it next week so we’ll know what the frustration level will be before we make our decision to watch or not. Various characters are chosen weekly to suffer bouts of
idiocy. These chosen ones’ common sense and survival intelligence
evaporate at crucial moments when making key decisions to move the story
along. Instead we crawl along with them through the last episodes of
the season. The talk around the water cooler last week wasn’t favorable and I’m pretty sure we’ll hear more of the same
tomorrow.
“We” means the four of us who watch this show together every week. Two of us stuck it out to the end tonight. The other two left after Andrea didn’t knock off the gov.
The way I look at it, Andrea’s been running in the woods & fighting off walkers in the woods from day until night…a long day! She’s being chased by someone who’s DRIVING. I think she had enough sense to realize that she may be too tired to physically fight off The Governor (she’s been in that situation before & Michonne just happened to come along & save her ass). Her sense of urgency at the time was to warn Rick & the group of what was to come.
There are 2 eps left in the season…maybe you guys could just see how it ends.
i agree with cindy payne that is a good prediction girl !! i really hope andrea survives !!
also hope that milton saves andrea because he knows where that chamber is !!
i agree with cindy payne and also hope that milton saves andera because he knows where that chamber is !!
how did the governor escape the stairwell full of zombies
Maybe he fought some off, as you could hear, & then took the same route through the door that Andrea did.
that’s what I want to know how did he get away and did he get beaten in the process?
i hope so
i agree this show is getting kinda lame! too many discrepancies..# 1..why was it when ANDREA entered the old wearhouse it was light outside but when the GOVERNER entered it was dark out? and when she left it was light again and YES why not take the truck!!! #2. why is it when you stab a walker in the eye you kill it but stab the GOVERNER in the eye he still lives lol
I didn’t notice the difference between light & dark in such a short time…will have to watch for that next week. As for the eye-kabob, there’s a looong difference between a katana & a shard of glass!
When she left the building it was still dark out, but there were bright street lights. I’m assuming when she almost reaches the prison, that it’s morning and that she’s been traveling overnight to get there..hence also why she was way too exhausted to fight off the Governor.
I watched this epp again last night. It looked like it was twilight the whole time. Old warehouses like those can be very dark inside. It looks like she may have reached the prison early morning, so maybe she took a rest in the woods.
Why didn’t Andrea steal the Governor’s truck? Can we all just assume he took the keys?
Sounds good to me! Besides, only a dud would leave the keys in the ignition. Governor may be a maniac but he ain’t no fool!
When she left Woodbury there were lots of cars, you mean none of them had keys???
A few things to things to consider here….
Looks like Andrea started out on the street but did most of her running in the woods. All of the vehicles near Woodbury would be drained of gas. Most of the vehicles farther out would probably be drained of gas, too. Some would more than likely have run out, due to idling in a jam or after a walker took out the occupants. For all we know, The Governor could have taken all the keys, too. Those that have a little gas in them probably wouldn’t crank. It’s an apocalypse. When Andrea left Woodbury, she left knowing that someone there KNOWS she left. To stick to the highway and/or waste time trying to find a vehicle was not the quicker, smarter thing to do.
The “men” part was funny. LOL
They wouldn’t let her leave Woodbury. If she took a car she would have had to break through a gate with it. She wouldn’t do that to them.
Smart guy.
She was getting chased, and she knew the governor could kill those walkers, she didn’t have time.
Really she should know how to hotwire, it’s legal for them now.
Sick of Andrea’s missed opportunities and bad decisions. She annoys me. The Governor bugs as well. Not sure I buy that he would pass up some of the opportunities he’s had as well “if he’s that crazy”. Seems like they are dragging out the situation at Woodbury (Town) way to long. I’m just not convinced by the characters. The only one that seemed convincing is Merle and now he’s at the prison. Lately it seems like every time I get sucked in from another awesome episode, I get disappointed with the next episode and it seems correlated to the town.
Does anyone know the name of the song that’s been in the last few episodes where in real tense situations that really deep (I’m not even sure what it is) goes DUN DUN DUN DUN?
Bear McCreary – “The Pulse”
no!!! why [POSSIBLE SPOILER. EDITED. -bh]??!! is a terrible desicion!! i don´t believe what the people what look “the walking dead” will be happy with [DITTO. -bh].
I don’t think he gets to kill Andrea. In the “Next week on The Walking Dead” it showed her talking to Michonne. Sooo, she gets away somehow.
I want to know how the hell the Governor survived the zombi attack!! It was not feasible for him to die, but come on! Great episode!
I’ve been wondering the same thing myself. The only thing I can figure is that those walkers have been decaying for so long (approx. 1 year?) that individually they are now fairly slow and weak. That, plus the Governor’s manic strength due to his madness allowed him to fight his way through them.
Just wondering if anyone recognized that blue thing on the Governor’s table of torture instruments? I recognized a speculum, tenaculum, and some other scissor clamp type things, but the blue thing has thrown me!
To me, it looked like a tube with a funnel attached.
The prop master had a segment on the Talking Dead where he went over all the props on the tray. It was indeed a funnel attached to a feeding tube, so the Governor could force a person to drink.
This half season there was 1 good episode. I also stand with people who say the whole Woodberry part of the show is getting more and more boring, and more and more implausible. The Governor character is so lame… as much as Shane was perfect bad guy of the show, the Governor is terrible. I had my hopes that in beautiful twist walkers would kill him in that scene! What a scary thought that he is going to survive to be boring in the season 4 too…
She should have at least slashed the tires, Andrea should know more than anybody you should never assume anyone dead in a zombie apocalypse
What’s going to happen to Andrea? I thought the Governor liked her. Now he’s going kill her because she won’t come back to Woodbury? Doesn’t he have compassion? Is he putting Andrea in there to get eaten up by Walkers? What’s going to happen?
thursday march 21, and freakshow is on tonight, where is our thursday black and white episode ? what the hell is amc thinking ? they cant get anyone to watch that piece of shit so they shove it down our throats. i want the walking dead. get with it amc !
AMC’s redeeming themselves by running a Dead marathon, starting Monday. I tuned in last night to catch my first glimpse of a B&W episode & was also disappointed. Those freaks can’t hold a candle to Dead!
actually they are not redeeming themselves, i have a schedule of whats on and when. the monday marathon was scheduled since i printed one on march 14th. they just cancelled thursdays episode. but alas, we have one tonight, if they dont cancel that. “prey” milton smokes the walkers tonight ! thats friday march 22nd at 10:00. actually next mon, tues, nights there are 5 episodes on and on wed. there are 7 episodes on at all crazy times.
I love my DVDs…can’t wait for Season 3 DVD release….will be reading the comics in the meantime!
Andrea is going to beat this, she is not going out like this…. I believe Milton will save her… He seem to be the only one that know about the Governor little work shop. I just want to know who is going to be the one to kill the Governor. Now Rick doesn’t have a real beef with the Governor, however Michonne , and the rest of the group do have a beef. Who is it going to be to kill him.
who is going to kill the Governor? Merle, Daryl, Glen, Maggie ,Michonne or Andrea will she get her third chance?
I really do not see Sasha lasting to long.
I hope you’re wrong! But with this show…
somebody need to kill Martinez
he will trade her for Michonne
Why is there not a zombie sex scene
That was one of Andrea’s few bad moments.
