We’re super excited to announce that AMC is in development of a companion series to The Walking Dead, slated to premiere in 2015. Robert Kirkman, Gale Ann Hurd, and David Alpert will return as executive producers.
“After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe,” Robert Kirkman said of the spin-off. “The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”
Are you excited to see new characters in TWD universe? What areas do you hope the new show explores that the comics don’t cover?
As much as I love the comics, I trust Robert Kirkman’s television storytelling. The introduction of Daryll and changing of character timelines has worked for the AMC series, and the webisodes were also fantastic to watch. Bring on the zombies!
I love the idea of a new story. I read the comics and the books and love the show. There are so many ways one could go. A Military base, a drug cartel. People dealing with Zombies in the snow. People who stayed in the cities and militias. Well as you can tell I’m not only excited for October but 2015 as well. Guess I’ll write a little fan fiction whilest waithing.
Ooh can someone hand me a napkin. I think I am drooling?
Oh please give us some sort of exploration of how the apocalypse started or what caused it! I beg of you!!! I’m super excited about it though. I have been permanently changed from a vampire girl to a 100% Zombie Girl!
Two words: Lee Everett.
Lee would be epic with clem and Kenny and for each season it would be like season 1 or 2 or 3 and you’d buy the episode’s and they have 6 episodes per episode so we still have the good old telltale vibe.
oooo kill em! Can’t wait for this!
I don’t plan to watch the original Walking Dead series because I’m really into the comics, but I’ll sure buy the new series as soon as it’ll be on shelves. I hope CBC/SRC will buy the right for the French version. 😛
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG 🙂
Hmmm….I dunno…this makes me feel like the show will come to a close soon and I’d rather see the show keep going. If they run both at the same time, quality’s gonna get compromised and/or there’s gonna be burnout (who didn’t get tired of the vampire craze?…and everywhere you look, zombies have taken over now.). And I thought The Walking Dead, as we know it, “isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book” already. Don’t get me wrong…I’m a HUGE fan of the show, novels, & comics…but the idea of this spin-off doesn’t appeal to me; I think they should continue to put 100% into the great series that it already is.
That was my initial reaction as well. Season 4, 5, and then maybe 6 will conclude this series right as development and Season 1 of the “Companion” series is ready to take over. I really hope this is just my paranoid speculations, but if this ends up being the case, I will only approve if Rick and his group is still out there surviving in the world. I am more than interested in other scenarios within The Walking Dead, but not at the expense of everything created thus far. However, I’m a glutten for punishment and will consume anything Robert Kirkman creates(or destroys) at this point in the game.
Yeah, I’m with you on that. I want to see something pertaining to how it all started. That would be freaking awesome.
I’d go for a prequel movie, depicting the cause. But they could save it for when the “zombie trend” is not so trendy anymore. That would hype it back up, I’m sure.
base it in Rhode Island smallest state in the union, lots of old stories here like vampires witches and what not, have them come back from the grave as vampire witch zombies
Tie-in with True Blood? lol
This is awesome news, very excited for AMC and the TWD Family! I hope this will give an opportunity to bring back some of the very good actors from AMC TWD that we really hated to see go like the prision guys, Tdog, & Merle. MIchonne would make an awesome leading lady too. I think the possibilities are endless… would love to see a series where they are lost in space and land on planets where there are smart walkers, could be really cool and scary!
Does the announcement of the companion series in 2015 mean the original will end then? This is keeping me up at night, TWD is my life, I am excited about a new series, but I want the original to last forever. Companion series title gives me a glimmer of hope that they will both be on TV together, I am freaked out, what happens to the original???
