[SPOILERS ahead if you haven’t finished Season 3]
So one of the funny things about working here is I’m never sure when we I can talk about what. I’m seeing Andrea’s alternate death scene being talked about though so I guess I can point you to that story over at CBR’s Spinoff Online (also I haven’t talked about this in months so I’m not even sure I remember the original ending properly). This was actually filmed and for a few different reasons they decided to re-shoot the scene, change Andrea’s death a bit, and change who finds her. This is why Tyreese just kind of wanders off at some point during the finale. The changes were definitely for the better. I know Andrea had a bit of a bumpy ride in regards to her popularity but I think her exit was really well-done and moving.
Andrea’s death was just awful. I had a very, VERY difficult time believing that a woman who’s been knee deep in zombie mayhem since the beginning would just sit there and talk to the dying Milton without desperatley attempting to free herself — she should have known damn well what was going to happen once he passes away, and she just sits there as the time ticks… It just didn’t make sense.
This may have helped the finale overall. I didn’t really care for the episode as a whole but I think Andrea’s death was definitely the worst part and the rest of the episode didn’t recover from that. I can deal with the Governor surviving through the season but the lack of a showdown, as built towards and advertised for the season finale left me feeling duped. It was almost like a twist ending of sorts but one executed by M. Night Shyamalan.
I feel like that choking scene would have been very useful in seeing where Andrea was at mentally. It would have shown us that she in fact DID want to die. Her just letting Milton bite her was able to be taken either way. One, she wanted to die or two, she just didn’t do it in time. If Milton was to try and choke Andrea, we would be able to understand clearly that she wanted to die.
I totally forgot she died. Season 3 was kind of a let down all around after episode 3:1
