The second half of The Walking Dead Season 7 is barreling towards us in a month and fans still have a TON of questions about the next chapter. We compiled eight of your most popular questions on Twitter and attempted to answer or at least acknowledge them below. Check them out below and reply with YOUR predictions/other questions in the comments. All right, let’s do this:
Who’s the guy/gal in the boots??
@TheWalkingDead Who is the mystery man of boot in the lake?
— Paolo (@PaolodinhoH) January 6, 2017
Well, it wouldn’t be The Walking Dead without a cliffhanger. During the Mid-Season Finale we got two close-ups on someone with black boots, presumably a threat to our survivors. Fans have speculated it’s Dwight, Jesus, or perhaps someone entirely new. Funny or Die’s Dashiell Driscoll (who writes Walking Dead recaps) might even argue these boots are a compelling and dynamic new character. Whomever they belong to, it’s safe to say we’ll get our answer soon.
Will Eugene Survive?
@TheWalkingDead will Eugene survive?
— manon| norman d-57 (@reedusrise) January 6, 2017
Damn it, Eugene. You got bullied into doing something you didn’t want to do and now you’re paying the price. If Eugene’s treatment at The Sanctuary is anything like Daryl’s, he may not make it. But since Negan wanted to BREAK Daryl and USE Eugene (for bullet manufacturing), one could assume it might not be all dog food sandwiches and Easy Street playlists for him. But with Negan, anything is possible.
Will Carol Return?
@TheWalkingDead @TWDSupportGroup WHEN is Carol coming back?
— ann (@DelukaSam) January 6, 2017
Fans breathed a sigh of relief this season when they learned Carol WOULD miraculously recover from her gunshot wounds. Since then, she’s left behind her life of violence and decided to live alone in a cottage. But this can’t be it for Carol, right? Fans don’t seem to think so. Whether in the cottage or out, we haven’t seen the last of her.
Will Maggie Take Over?
@TheWalkingDead Will Maggie become Hilltop Mayor? #Maggieforpresident2017
— Mel (@Whatever1210) January 6, 2017
We would correct you on the mayor label, but since we’ve had a governor we suppose it’s kosher to stick with democratic leadership labels. Anyway, this is a solid question. If the comics are any indication, you’re not far from the truth. But of course, this is the show and things tend to change (like everyone on the show being in color instead of black and white like the comics). Based on the leadership skills Maggie’s shown so far this season, it seems like The Hilltop leadership could be up for grabs.
What’s Up With The Spikey Walker?
@TheWalkingDead I'm still wondering what was up with the zombie with all the spikes on him What's going on there?
— Jose Perez (@Josegabino_14) January 6, 2017
Nice catch! In a blink-and-you-miss-it scene from The Walking Dead Season 7b trailer, Rick is met with what looks like a walker covered in armor and spikes. Is this a dream, a Whisperer, or have walkers stumbled upon a copy of Gladiator? We’ll find out soon…
What’s Negan’s Backstory?
@TheWalkingDead What is Negan's back story?
— Jen (@JennErin79) January 6, 2017
Great question! Fans are constantly asking us how Negan became the man he is and we actually have an answer! Although it’s subject to change in the show, Negan’s compelling COMIC backstory has been released in increments via monthly issues of Image Plus. We definitely recommend you check it out because it’s guaranteed to surprise you.
Who Rescued Daryl?
@TheWalkingDead Who gave Daryl the key, note and what did thematch stick mean.
— country mom (@sexygrandma15) January 6, 2017
Here’s what we can tell you: Daryl was Negan’s prisoner until the day Carl and Jesus showed up. Coincidentally or not, Daryl was slipped a note telling him to “go now.” It couldn’t have been Carl since he was with Negan. But what about Jesus? It seems convenient but how would he have known where Daryl’s cell was? Fans have also speculated Sherry or Dwight, since Sherry’s helped Daryl before and Dwight, well, we’ll get to that another time. As for the match, Dwight and Sherry both smoke so perhaps it’s a calling card. Who do YOU think it was?
What happened to Heath?
@TheWalkingDead What happened to Heath? Who is this shoe guy?
— Fenja |-/ (@poopingjosh) January 6, 2017
The last time we saw Heath he was with Tara on a supply run gone wrong. After escaping Oceanside Tara returns to the scene to find Heath and their RV missing. She DID however discover tire tracks and a key card that reads, “PPP.” So, what does PPP stand for? (Pterodactyls Puking Pneumonia is the most logical guess). Did The Saviors capture Heath or did Heath assume Tara was dead and bounce? Also, will we get a Walking Dead/24 crossover?? Time will tell!

Really tired of Carol at this point and don’t think we need another character. As for Negans backstory, get yourself image+.
Carol and Morgan just need to get their crap together already, it’s getting quite annoying. Also, I don’t really care about Heath anymore. Personally, I think they chose the wrong actor for the job. He’s known pretty much only because of Straight Outta Compton and I’m assuming he was excited about his popularity and started auditioning for a bunch of different shows. He probably didn’t realize that Heath wasn’t just some random killable character. Now he’s ditching for 24 Legacy. I would be completely okay with them recasting. They should have just kept Noah, and he could have been the Heath replacement.
They say he is going to balance both, but we all know that isn’t going to happen. We’re just going to find out that the Saviors have him and he’ll just die. What a waste.
ppp-a term in music called pianississimo: the softest possible, a whisper.
I heard that theory somewhere online, so I’m not the one to come up with that, but as someone who loves music, I think that’s worth noting, and I believe that Heath will reappear as a Whisperer if at all.
>If that’s a gal in them boots, I’d be scared… unless I was Carol!
>Of course, Eugene will survive! He’s a survivor! That’s what survivors do!
>Carol will return… she always does… and it will be good… it always is…. with a bang!
>I think Maggie has already taken over, hasn’t she?
>Spikey walker… I bet that guy summoned the Cenobites.
>Negan is gangsta. He really doesn’t even need a backstory.
>Whoever rescued Daryl needs to be S-LAPPED!
>Heath had a free ticket to the Party Pooper Parade.
-I think boots is a woman OR it’s someone we know Those are the only reasons to disguise the person so completely. They would have shown at least part of the face otherwise.(and I don’t think it’s someone we know).
-Eugene will be fine
-Yes, Maggie’s take over is only a formality… just need to kill off or vote out Gregory.
-Negan doesn’t really need a backstory, we can
guess…like everyone else he lost his loved ones in grisly fashion, did what was necessary to survive and found a way to manipulate the circumstances in his favor.
-Had to be Dwight cause he had Daryl’s bike key. Sherry might have helped him but I don’t think he’s involve her cause of consequences from Negan.
-Health… who cares?
I was thinking the card was Peter Piper’s Picker’s. Damn advertising!
Those boots were indeed made for walkin’. My guess is some half crazy old man, new character. It would be good to throw another non comic person into the mix.
Maggie is boss, that is all.
Eugene must survive to annoy us with his incredible nerdiness for at least another season.
I think it was Sherry who rescued Darryl. She seemed to be a bit fixated on him. I don’t think Jesus would have known where to go, and if it were him, why didn’t he just open the door and let Darryl out. Dwight is still not the Dwight in the comics so I wouldn’t think it was him.
Carol needs to get her balls back. I don’t like this wimpy ishy Carol.
Negan’s backstory is totally worth reading.
I would have liked to see Carol and Morgan dead by now. The most pointless and tedious character development on both characters. Both should have died earlier and Carol’s story would have suited her dying saving the group at Terminus. So fingers crossed carol is done at the end of season 7. Morgan at this point is a reason to stop watching. Maybe Morgan can have his own spinoff series set somewhere in a Galaxy far far away called CLEAR!
I think Dwight is responsible for Darryl getting out, Dwight has been given substance in the show for a reason and it is not just for him to be a bad guy. He obviously isn’t no matter ho hard he is trying.
Maggie obviously will be the leader at Hilltop, is this really in doubt?
Given how many avenues the show is expanding right now I am not sure if the show will keep Negan around going forward like the comic. I think the show will deviate quite heavily.
The whole Heath and Oceanside story is really terrible story telling and it is asking viewers to keep their headspace chocker block with story arcs, Oceanside should not have been introduced until the end of season 7, suddenly being on a beach felt like we were skipping into FTWD which is never a wise move.
I enjoyed Negan so much more in the comic so I am hopeful this story is turning to our groups advantage very soon. I was really depressed by the end of the 1st season 7 block.
