We begin the episode at Norville’s funeral, a ceremony sadly only attended by Reverend Anderson, Kyle, Caleb, and his presumed killer Sidney (AKA the man in the hat). That night Donnie interrupts Mark and Megan’s date and reveals he’s moved into town to sell tires. Megan’s clearly shaken by his presence and Mark jokes about kicking his ass.
Meanwhile Chief Giles hosts a barbecue at his house with another couple. When the wives go inside Giles returns the watch Mark recovered in the trailer to his friend. It’s obvious his friend has some involvement in the mysterious trailer in the woods. Kyle runs into Donnie at a bar, who mentions seeing Megan earlier. Kyle, who also shares a horrible past with him lunges at Donnie. They’re both thrown out of the bar but continue fighting until Donnie gets the best of him.
The next day Kyle and Reverend Anderson make a house visit to Mildred, one of the church members who “used to be” possessed. She berates Kyle for the Joshua incident and alienating his family. She begins to fall and just like the comics Kyle grabs her and she screams out in agony. She kicks Kyle and the Rev out and Kyle draws a parallel between Mildred and Joshua & Blake. Despite the Rev claiming he exorcised her demon years ago, Kyle still believes she’s afflicted by something. That night, Megan experiences a flashback from her childhood to when Donnie used to sexually abuse her.
The next day Mark and Kyle grab a drink to discuss Donnie. Mark figures out he’s the abusive guy Megan used to be in foster care with and becomes furious. Megan shows up at Donnie’s hotel with a gun in her purse and demands he leave town. Donnie suggests they both have to deal with their past and “it is what it is.”
Chief Giles sets out on a “hunting trip” to further investigate his friend’s involvement with the trailer in the woods. He watches from the bushes as his friend douses the trailer with kerosene and sets it on fire. It’s clear he has a LOT to hide. Reverend Anderson pays another visit to Mildred’s house and realizes she’s still possessed. He places a trinket from his past exorcism on her doorstep as a reminder.
That evening Mark pulls Donnie over as he’s making his way out of town. Donnie pleads but Mark enacts his revenge and beats the living hell out of him on the side of the road. Unfortunately, the entire incident is captured on his police dashcam. Later, Megan airs out her frustrations in her backyard by sledgehammering glassware. The Holters have a LOT they’re keeping from each other.
So what did YOU think of the episode?? Let us know in the comments below:
I love that even tho I’ve been reading the comic, the show has left me with questions & wondering & anxious for the next ep. The adaptation is truly spot on… the comic frames just popping right onto the screen! ALL of the characters have my attention! Megan & Mark are so realistic… doesn’t even feel like watching acting! That Mildred spooked the bejesus out of me!
Knowing Megan’s past really made tears in my eyes. It’s sad and it angers me when it related to girl’s abuse. It’s an emotional episode. And the end Megan’s scene breaking glasses was heartbreaking very???
Best one yet! I felt so sorry for Megan and finding out what really happened to her. I hope her husband didn’t kill him. I don’t read the comics so I have no idea what to expect next. Mildred looks so evil! Man she scare me bad. Love this show and seriously can’t wait for the next ep. I believe there is a devil and I believe evil and demons exist. That’s what makes it so scary.
