Our friend, handsome Disney prince cosplayer and host extraordinaire, Leo Camacho dropped by the office and brought a rather legendary friend with him to chat exclusively for Insiders.
A Los Angeles native, Phil one of the most prolific voice actors working today. He’s been in about 90 television shows, 50 video games, and 40 movies, not to mention commercials, narration, shorts, and all kinds of other fun things! He’s perhaps best known as one of the original cast members of MAD TV and as “Marvin” in PULP FICTION.
In the live action world he has been in films like REAL STEEL, FREE ENTERPRISE and MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN. On TV you might have caught him on shows such as “NYPD Blue,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “The Muppets,” “Lucifer,” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” Plus, Phil also starred in and produced the comedy web series “Inside The Legend.”
Then, we get to his extensive voice-over work, which… okay, honestly, I’m just going to make a list so you see what I’m talking about:
– Samurai Jack
– Futurama
– Static Shock
– Justice League
– Family Guy
– Young Justice
– STAR WARS: The Clone Wars
– Ultimate Spiderman
– Bojack Horseman
– Avengers Assemble
– Turbo Fast
– The Annoying Orange
– Garfield
– The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes
– Phineas and Ferb
– Transformers
– Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends
No joke I could keep going on! Plus we didn’t even hit video games like DARKSIDERS, DEAD ISLAND, INJUSTICE, SHADOW OF MORDOR (for which he won the NAVGTR award for best supporting actor) MORTAL KOMBAT X and THE WITNESS.
Seriously, JUST RIGHT NOW, he’s “Congressman Graves” on HBO’s VEEP, in Disney’s “The Lion Guard,” “Star Wars REBELS,” Nickelodeon’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” and “Bunsen Is A Beast,” plus recurring in the new Epix series “Get Shorty” AND working on NEW episodes of SAMURAI JACK for Adult Swim!
I honestly don’t know when this man sleeps!
Somewhere, potentially with the help of a time turner or some other magical item that helps him manipulate time, Phil is also a giant fan of comic books. Leo and him dig into not only his career and his work across so many animated series, but into his fandom. They discussed what he reads, what he loves, and so many other things he has on his mind about the world of comics.
Finally, we found out that VERY high on his pull list is a Skybound book near and dear to us all – Robert Kirkman’s INVINCIBLE!
As both a performer and a fan, Phil is excited about the upcoming live-action film adaptation of the superhero comic with Seth Rogan & Evan Goldberg are heading up. That said, he is also hoping that at some point there’s an animated version. Even though it’s not in the works (at least for now), in lieu of the day when such a thing happens, Phil has a fan casting of his own.
Thus, I now present Phil Lamarr’s fan casting of an animated INVINCIBLE. Let me know in the comments what you think! Do you agree? Do you disagree? Who else do you see in these roles? Let us know!!
Starting us off strong is ATOM EVE for who Phil’s voice choice is Kari Wahlgren (Rick and Morty, Tangled, Fairly Oddparents)
For NOLAN/OMNI-MAN, he picks up Nolan North (Uncharted, Young Justice, TMNT)
Next comes good guy turned morally questionable super-leader ROBOT, and the pick is Eric Bauza (Transformers, Powerpuff Girls, TMNT)
Fan Favorite and all around bad-ass BATTLE BEAST sees Leo and Phil pick Fred Tadasciore (Hulk, TMNT, American Dad!)
Then comes ANGSTROM LEVY, for who he actually thinks of Dee Baker (Star Wars, Tangled, Avatar: The Last Airbender)
When it comes to THE IMMORTAL, Phil FINALLY cast HIMSELF!
Last, but in no way least comes titular character INVINCIBLE, for which Phil and Leo were undecided! Split between two very talented men – Scott Menville (Teen Titans, Captain Planet, Despicable Me, Frozen) and Jeremy Shada (Adventure Time, Voltron: Defender of the Universe)
That’s it for us this week guys!
