We are very, very excited to announce that Adam Wingard has signed on to direct an adaption of the Skybound comic HARDCORE for Universal! Longtime Skybound fans will remember that Adam directed the pilot of OUTCAST for us way back in 2016 and absolutely killed it. Most recently Adam directed a little movie called GODZILLA VS. KONG, so, you know, he’s been doing ok.
HARDCORE is based on an original story outline written by Robert Kirkman and is based on the Skybound/Image comic book series created by Kirkman and Marc Silvestri (CYBER FORCE, RISE OF THE MAGI). It tells the story of soldiers able to hi-jack the brain of a person remotely and assume complete control—a great tool when you need to get intel or assassinate a world leader. Of course, things don’t go according to plan during a hit and hardcore action ensues as Agent Drake has 72 hours to get back and rescue his body.
Both volumes of HARDCORE are available right now! Volume 1 is written by Andy Diggle (THIEF OF THIEVES) with art by Alessandro Vitti (SECRET WARRIORS) and Volume 2: Reloaded is written by Brandon Thomas (EXCELLENCE) and drawn by Francis Portela (FAITH).
Wingard will co-write the film alongside emerging talent Will Simmons. Simmons wrote reboots for SLEEPY HOLLOW and INTERNAL AFFAIRS both at Paramount. Prior to that he adapted DAY MEN for Universal and Boom Studios. Skybound and Wingard’s Montauk Chair are producing, with Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst, and Sean Furst producing on behalf of Skybound. Wingard and Jeremy Platt will executive produce. Universal Pictures’ EVP of Production, Matt Reilly will oversee the project for the studio.
We’re super excited! Stay tuned for more news and re-watch Adam’s spectacular movie THE GUEST while you wait! It’s on Netflix!
