Skybound Games to create tabletop games based on Sideshow’s dark fantasy horror property the Court of the Dead
Skybound Entertainment recently signed a deal and commenced development on a series of Court of the Dead games. The Court of the Dead is an original dark fantasy universe from Sideshow Collectibles.
Due for a Fall/Winter 2019 release, Court of the Dead: Dark Harvest is a diabolically delightful card-based party game. Dark Harvest harnesses gambling mechanics to engage players in 30 minutes of merry and mischievous back-stabbing and double-dealing.
In addition to Dark Harvest, Skybound is developing a Court of the Dead themed expansion deck for their popular Superfight game, as well as a much larger and more ambitious tabletop game, for which details have not yet been announced.
“I have always envisioned Court of the Dead in the gaming sphere,” said Tom Gilliland, creator of the Court of the Dead and Chief Creative Officer of Sideshow. “Gaming is in my DNA, and it is core to how I approach world-building. The diverse ways that creativity can be expressed in the gaming space is intoxicating, and I’m delighted to get the opportunity to partner with Skybound Games and James Hudson to develop the Court of the Dead world even more! James’ energy is an unstoppable force and his enthusiasm for the Underworld is going to make for some terrifyingly terrific gaming experiences!”

“Working with the insanely talented team at Sideshow is a dream come true,” said James Hudson, Director of Tabletop Games at Skybound. “The first time I laid eyes on Court of the Dead, I knew it had to live in the board game world!”
Sideshow is a pop culture collectibles lifestyle brand, known for its museum-quality pop culture collectibles. The dark fantasy universe of the Court of the Dead is Sideshow’s debut original property. Launched in 2013, the Court of the Dead boasts more than 60 collectibles and fine art prints, a library of five books and a curated collection of seven active licensees – with more to come in 2019 and beyond.
The Court of the Dead was created by Tom Gilliland, Sideshow’s Chief Creative Officer. For Tom, who was raised on a diet of heavy metal music and Dungeons & Dragons, the property is his version of a super hero team – a seemingly horrific group of anti-heroes striving for redemption through self-determination. Led by Death (known as the “Alltaker” in this universe), the Underworld must band together the divergent factions of Bone, Flesh and Spirit to rise up and rebel against the equally corrupt armies of Heaven and Hell in order to save themselves, and the realm of mortals.
