It must be Flashback Friday because we’re diving deeper into Kyle’s past as a tormented child. His mother’s possession began on a normal sunny day when she went from playing with her son to collapsing on the ground and rubbing mud on herself. Um, mom?
FLASH FORWARD: Kyle has running water again and Reverend Anderson delivers a powerful sermon to a congregation that’s noticeably smaller. “The battle is coming,” the Reverend warns. Following the service the Rev speaks with one of the church members Mildred, who shoots Kyle a dirty look as he walks up. Kyle questions Reverend Anderson on if he really freed his mother from the demon like he did with Joshua.
Chief Giles advises Reverend Anderson not to rile the town people up by parading Kyle around. Later, a local brings a bloody animal to the police station and claims it was one of seven mysteriously hung on a tree. Kyle visits his mother again, reminisces about the good times, gets frustrated about her living conditions, and steals her away from the hospital. Norville the neighbor notices him carry his mother in his house and asks if everything’s OK. Kyle’s like NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS NORVILLE and shoos him away.
The next morning Kyle asks Megan to deliver a birthday present to his daughter at her party. “No contact covers everything,” she warns but takes the present anyway. Kyle experiences another flash back (Friday) to the time he managed to lock his mom in the pantry. Meanwhile, Reverend Anderson takes a play from The Producers and courts Mildred and her friends to help grow the church.
At the party Allison tells Megan how difficult it’s been for Amber to adjust to life without Kyle. Meanwhile, Chief Giles and Mark investigate the woods and discover CRUCIFIED RACCOONS! WELP, TIME TO GET THE F**K OUT OF THE WOODS.
SPEAKING of investigation Reverend Anderson gets a call from the assisted living home and drives to Kyle’s to take back his mother. Kyle, who believes his mother’s still possessed, convinces the Rev to perform an exorcism. When his words don’t work Kyle opens a wound a squeezes blood into his mother’s mouth. Nothing happens.
That night Kyle reluctantly returns his mother to the assisted living home and flashes back to when his mother was finally taken away from him after a violent fight. Meanwhile, Amber opens Kyle’s gift without knowing who it’s from. Megan leaves a note on Kyle’s doorstep saying that she loved the gift. The man in the hat pays Sarah Barnes a visit and says, “Despite it all, we have him anyway.” A single tear falls down her cheek as SHE flashes back to the entity leaving her and wrapping itself around young Kyle (which he clearly doesn’t remember). Looks like his mother ISN’T still possessed, but merely in an actual conscious coma. Damn, that is ROUGH.
What’d YOU think of the episode?? Let us know in the comments!
Honestly, so far the best comic to screen I’ve seen. Huge Walking Dead fan, well Kirkman fan in general. Outcast on Cinemax is brilliant. Fugit was simply the perfect cast for Kyle… to perfect. Everything about it has been great… oh and Mildred is on point!

I thought it was sufficiently creepy and left me with questions that will plague me until next week!! Is Sydney the devil, will Kyle’s mom ever come out of her catatonic state and who the hell has a grudge against raccoons?!! I didn’t want it to be over!!
