Imagine spending a night in a bed and breakfast where the walls whisper, the drawers shoot open, and the bed comes alive while you’re in it. Such was the experience of a handful of London thrill-seekers last night, the first guests of an Outcast-inspired hotel.
The “Scare B&B,” as it’s being called, acts as a replica of Kyle Barnes’ possessed house and is part of FOX UK’s creative marketing campaign for the Outcast premiere. The B&B is set in London’s Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane (the actual site of Jack the Ripper’s second murder), where guests will stay overnight in a bedroom rigged with flying books, exploding TVs, and possibly some uninvited guests. (The B&B also offers 30-minute daytime slots for the less courageous).
Outcast star Philip Glenister, who plays Reverend Anderson, was the first to unveil the house. “It’s actually very eerie being stood here in front of the Outcast Scare B&B,” Glenister remarked. “It feels so much like the house we shot in – the detail is uncanny and the effects that bring the room to life are really going to give people a fright!”
Pen & Teller magic mastermind Alan Rorrison helped design the special effect-driven thrills of the house. “Rigging the scare B&B with terrifying effects has been one of the most exciting challenges I’ve taken on,” Rorrison said.
“We wanted people to have a real sense of the demonic possession that Robert Kirkman realizes so brilliantly in Outcast, so I studied this as well as classic films like The Exorcist. Working with a brilliant sound and production team we’ve devised some really unique and creepy ways to build tension and paranoia before ramping up the horror that will really capture the sensation that demonic possession is taking over in this room.”
Rorrison teases there’s MANY more thrills that he’s keeping under-wraps. If you DO manage to survive the madness a celebratory breakfast will be served. Thankfully, these people lived to see it:
