This week’s Walking Dead episode borrowed little from the comics, BUT there was a new character introduced that got comic fans freaking out. Could the show really be introducing her this early…or is it someone else entirely?! We jump into that and more below.
Walker-Coated Weapons
As we discussed in last week’s comic/show comparisons – Negan’s plan to cover The Savior weapons with walker guts and attack the Hilltop is straight out of The Walking Dead Issue #122. But since this episode focused on the trip TO The Hilltop (where the comics just cut to the chase) we’ll have to wait until the next few episodes to see more clear cut comparisons.
Georgie/Pamela
Now to the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Of course this part is tricky because we can’t confirm if Georgie (played by Jayne Atkinson), the new survivor leader we met this episode is Pamela from the comics but she sure looks and acts a lot like her. For those of you not caught up on the comics – In Issue #176 we met Pamela, the Governor of a newly-introduced 50,000+ community in Ohio called The Commonwealth. After Eugene makes contact with one of their residents over the radio, he, Michonne, Siddiq, and others travel to check it out. Once they arrive, they realize someone from Michonne’s past is actually staying there.
From the business attire to the short blonde hair to the personality – Pamela and Georgie seem nearly one in the same. The way she told Maggie about her key to society SOUNDS a lot like Pamela as well. So what’s different about them? First of all Georgie has two guards who appear very plain and normal while Pamela surrounds herself with heavily armored soldiers called brutes (she wouldn’t be caught dead outside her community without them). Also, Pamela was JUST introduced in the comics – so seeing her appear in the show during All Out War would be a HUGE deviation from the source material. Still, this could be a pre-time jump Pamela/Georgie where she’s still building The Commonwealth to what we eventually see in the comics. It may be a while until we can give you answers, but like Georgie said, she WILL be back. (See what Georgie actress Jayne Atkinson had to say about this rumor here!)
What Didn’t Happen In The Comics
As we mentioned earlier, this was one of those episodes where the show filled in the gaps between comic storylines with their own. Since Simon doesn’t exist in the comics, his move to stick Negan in a dangerous car chase position that would lead to him taking over didn’t happen in the comics. Also included were Negan and Rick’s car chase/one-on-one battle, Georgie’s appearance, anything with Enid (who doesn’t exist in the comics) and Jadis (who also doesn’t exist in the comics) kidnapping Negan.
That’s it for this week! What did you think of Georgie’s introduction? Is it Pamela from the comics or someone else? Tell us in the comments and tune in next week when our comic/show comparisons will be juicer than ever.
Georgie’s Bible of medieval technology makes me afraid for Dr. Eugene.
I always thought his engineering would be required, so I have always thought he was “safe”.
Now all bets are off.
Georgie Pourgie…. what to say about this one, it would be kind of cool to have a pre-commonwealth situation that we only get to see through the show. She is almost the exact copy of Pamela and maybe we just saw her 2 years before they had there body armor and “Brutes”.. Could be that the Helicopter Rick saw earlier in the Season was her communities and they use it to find survivors? This may get very interesting.
These people almost certainly have something to do with the helicopter we saw.
Commonwealth? Doubt it.
Proctors from Fear? Maybe.
In any case, I’m sure this is going to involve Morgan and Fear.
