THE WALKING DEAD issue #163 is out NOW! We are THROUGH the Whisperer War but the ramifications are NOT over. Read the issue and let us know what you thought down below. We’ll be awarding our favorite comment with a signed issue of THE WALKING DEAD #163!
PREVIOUSLY: Hilltop has burned, but Maggie led her people to safety. Dwight returns to Rick, claiming victory over the Whisperers. Though Beta lost the battle, he unleashes a horde of walkers toward Alexandria, aiming to wipe them out completely. The Whisperer War is over, but Alexandria’s fight for survival begins now.
A pretty exciting issue! i really tought Rick was donzo, but what goes around, comes around. I’m still a little bit on the fence about the return of the Saviors as an enemy of Rick and company, but it’s a good oportunity to see how Dwight and Negan will react to the whole affair.
PS: loving the alt cover, good work!
Negan…. My man.
Thought Rick was gone, but Negan with the save. I think they have plans for Negan, and I hope he sticks around. See Rick’s look of shock as Negan took command!
Maybe Rick won’t die. I thought long ago it was said the story ends with Rick. Who knows. This episode got my juices pumping. Again, that cover was a classic Kirkman tease. And they aren’t quite conquered yet.
Negan is an asset to TWD. I too think he should be around for awhile. JDM as Negan has brought this character out to a villain that you want to stay a lot longer than other villains that come out of the comic. I would rather see some of Ricks group be killed off instead of Negan. JDM took this character and made him who we love hate. His acting is phenomenal I really want him to stay they can do that if they want to. Will be interesting what they do but I can see Negan take Ricks roll.Considering Rick goes down after attack on him I would like to see roll change.
I really liked this issue!
Im interested in the saviors… Im hoping they dont die so soo in issue 166.
The new arc has a pretty strong start so far! I loved this issue for a lot of reasons.
– Eugene. Not only was it nice to hear Kirkman confirm he’s on the spectrum which a lot of fans have gotten the impression of, Eugene was great in this issue. He’s grown so much as a character and had his own strengths the whole time, only took a while before he got to really show them off for the good of the group. His smile when Rick thanks him just shows that even after all of his hardships, he can keep going with the encouragement of his friends. He’s been a standout in recent times so I’m glad to see him more fleshed out and focused on!
Jesus & Michonne – JESUS IS MY FAVE. I always love seeing Jesus do ANYTHING to be honest, but him and Michonne in this issue were so badass with their plan to try their best to thin out the herd as best they could in a slightly faster/more efficient if not more dangerous way. I hope they stay safe!
Dwight – Another character I grew to love in the comics (I hope the series does him the same justice!) and lately he’s been so great. I’m glad he got some moments of doubt which reflect on his past with the Saviors/Negan because it shows that he’s still human and still has some insecurities (since boy his experience with Negan really did that to him), but he ended up standing up and embracing it and his bond with Rick growing as partners is something I think is awesome to see.
Tangent: I loved the moment between him and Andrea when Rick sees them off. Mostly in that way of Dwight trying to be a BRO and a FRIEND like “I’ll keep an eye on her Rick” but Andrea basically saying the same thing to him. Who’s keeping who safe here? I liked that moment because it was a very “equal grounds” moment since both he and Andrea are strong. Still, it was a cute and funny moment I think.
Rick – The variant cover makes a bit of sense from the moment with Negan and Rick pausing before yelling “listen to the man!” Rick is still a steadfast leader and the changes in how he leads, especially due to his leg now, has been fun to see develop and slowly/slightly change.
Negan – NEGAN, NEGAN, NEGAN. I love seeing his recent developments. The fact that he can see be so easily cutthroat for his goal (killing Brandon, and then Alpha) but so far seems … SEEMS like he may have different focuses and goals now has me all over the place. Part of me is going ” could get behind this Negan redemption arc” if it ends up being a real thing – I mean, he saved Rick’s life and all. Whether or not it was because Negan actually had some change of heart and is saving Rick for a reason or because he’s doing this all for some other large, ulterior plan is still in the air. That’s what I love about everything with Negan lately. It could be something with a slow but huge change in his character. OR it could be a slow, long con. And in either case I would enjoy both and can’t wait to see which it is. As long as I get to see more Negan in general with his colorful language I’m happy.
Good lord I’m sorry for that giant chunk of text I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS.
This brought me to tears.
Very exciting! Was awesome to see Rick and Negan working together, and helping each other out, feels like everything has come full circle. We see two former mortal enemies, cooperating to fight the bigger, and main threat; the ZOMBIES! Also, RIP Paula, Nicholas’ wife; I’m surprised I remembered him when she was eaten. John also seems to be a really interesting and mysterious character, whose motives i’m a bit unsure of as of now. Looking forward to the next issue and what will all go down.
Yea, RIP Mrs. P… She’s been around for a while, I also remembered Nicholas, a fighter in the first Alexandria siege and later in the war with the Saviors.
Seeing those trenches filled with mash… Wow. I am more afraid for those who are outside… Not only Beta & co might be lurking in the shadows, but especially Saviors. I would not be surprised if major deaths were later caused by them, and not by the herd.
RIP Alexandria. All produce, crops, animals, all is gone now. Rick screwed it up. Dwight and the others wouldn’t stand a chance in a battle with that herd, Rick should have known that.
It will be quite interesting to see how the next few issues will play out. I’m glad to see the cover art get better and better each issue. Also, praise Eugene with his magical wagon of goodies!
I would like to dedicate this comment to the biggest loss we’ve seen since All Out War, something that has been a constant presence and is now gone for good. I’m talking, of course, about Rick’s cane. It was gone too soon. The cane stuck with Rick through good times and bad, and had some great moment. It’s darkest time was clearly when it Betrayed its owner in 150 (clearly the betrayal in the title of that issue). Yet we must look through this darkness and see the light that was its best moment. In issue 152, Rick hit Brandon over the head with his cane, something the fanbase have all wanted to do at one time or another. Rest In Peace Cane, you were gone too soon
R.I.P. Rick’s Cane
Issue 127-Issue 163
One minute of silence for Rick’s Cane.
When it hit Brandon I was in tears of joy. Awestruck by Rick’s magnificent cane and its ability to just knock snotty teenagers the Hell out.
Holly shit !!! Ive seen it all. NEGAN saving Rick. Cant wait for next issue.
A decent start to a new arc.
I was really confused and worried about all these variant covers with Rick holding Lucille in Negan’s clothes, titles like “Conquered” and some of the stuff that happened in the actual issue… I really had thoughts that Rick or Negan are gone, but nope. It has a much better sense to it – Rick and Negan are united and I am sick as hell to find out, how this is going to turn out.
Seeing how Negan is with Rick now, it makes me remember one of the glorious moments of the TV show – the moment of Rick’s speech to Governor from Season 4. Basically, Rick tried to talk some sense into him, to give him a chance and well… since Governor was cracked in nuts, he did not listen.
It’s not like that with Negan, tough. In my previous comment about my favorite character from TWD, I have spoke about the differences between Negan and The Governor and this issue has proved it once more.
Negan did change and even, tough, he is still the same ol’ meany, things are going to be different.
“Come on, come on!” (c) February 15th, where are you?!
sliusarek@gmail.com
What has happened to the Negan we fell in love with? This character is now the fonz. A pale reflection of the ruthless man who led with such terror and fear. Yes, people evolve and change but why doesn’t he just go down on his knees in front of Rick. This all better be a scam and Negan is going to kill Rick.
On the other hand, the art through out this issue was absolutely superb. Well written, almost all the characters had an appearance.
How much weight has Eugene lost? He is the most experienced rider among the group??
This issue was absolutely Amazing, the artwork was some of the best we have got in the last arc or so. One thing I’m worried about is my boy Eugene. As Rick even said its only been a few hours since Eugene woke from collapsing and now he’s leading some of my favourite characters into a heard of thousands of walkers, HEAD FIRST. I am worried but overall I absolutely loved this issue, not to mention this was the first time I have wrote in AND I got into the letterhacks! First one not to mention! Overall very happy with this issue and cant wait to see what happens next! (Photo is my email!).
Georgia? They are outside of Washington DC. I figure Virginia or Maryland. :p
Oh, so YOU’RE the guy, eh?? BOI, you better have known that THE WALKING DEAD comic is takin’ place near WASHINGTON D.C., which I last remembered being near Virginia or Maryland!!
This issue had my blood pumping and ended way too quick, man.
yup ! me too!
I literally jumped off my seat and start celebrating when Negan saved Rick’s life. Already one of my favourite moments in the entire TWD universe.
Greetings and thank you for this feeling y’all!
Same here! It was the best part ever! I loved it when he just came in and saved Rick!! GO NEGAN!!
Man, every time Charlie does one of those zombie panels that takes up both pages, I find myself more and more impressed with what he can do with just black and white. The pages with the zombies getting pushed into Alexandria’s gate is the perfect example of this. I mean, I stared at that for 5-10 minutes alone. Story-wise, I am getting really excited. Having the looming threats of the whisperers, the giant horde, and the saviors is extremely stressful, but really fun to think about. Imagine Negan having to fight against the Saviors to help protect the Survivors. That is something I really hope we can see. Also, I hope Rick’s cane is alright. It has become pretty iconic at this point (maybe when he gets it back he can give it a really awesome name like Lori, and use it to bash in people’s heads… That would be amazing!)
Agree with you highly there, don’t forget the great work of Cliff Rathburn. His greyscale work makes a hell of a difference and really complements Charlie’s work. Hugely evident on the Giant sized artists edition, which lacks the greyscale. What a great team working on a great story.
The letter hacks of this issue were traumatizing, Eugene is clearly normal. How dare one person in the comments say they liked hearing him say that. Eugene is relatable and normal in the comics, unlike in the show where they try so hard to make him seem off to make the show more interesting. That retarded phrase he used is never used and Eugene is fucking normal.
If the creator of the comics says that Eugene is within the spectrum, then your comment is nulled. He’s the one who made the character, unless you forgot. But aside from that, I think it’s great that Kirkman brings in all colors, shapes, sizes and types of people in this story… And you know what..? IT’S NORMAL. IT’S FUCKING NORMAL. Nothing about him having a slight trace of autism makes him a freak or any less normal than the other characters. That’s the point. Differences no longer exist in a world where people have to band together to defeat a common threat to their survival. We shouldn’t even be discussing this as far as I’m concerned.
Are you trying to say autistic people can be relatable and high functioning enough to seem fairly typical? Because I’m going to level with you here… that is a really really REALLY fucking terrible thing to say. And you should be at least a little ashamed of your ignorance.
CAN’T******
Jesus, fuck. Of all times to have a typo. Point is, being autistic doesn’t somehow negate Eugene being relatable and it’s pretty terrible that you seem to think it does.
agreed ^
Tell a guy who he can and can’t relate to, put words in his mouth, then berate him in the name of social justice. CNN would pay you a big salary doing the same thing!
Saying you don’t like a character being labeled autistic is a perfectly reasonable thought, and can be done without any negative connotations towards the condition.
“Eugene is relatable and normal in the comics”
“That retarded phrase he used is never used and Eugene is fucking normal.”
Literally him basically stating that somehow him not being “normal” negates his ability to relate to him and then being exceptionally hostile at the idea that the CREATOR of the character just explicitly confirmed Eugene in on the spectrum. Plenty of autistic people are high functioning enough to appear “normal.” Pick your battles. Doesn’t help when what they said is plain as black and white in their text. What they said was a FAR cry away from somehow saying they didn’t like Eugene being on the spectrum without any “negative connotations.” You’re either dense or Eugeneisnormal’s alt account. Guess you’d be dense either way, though. (Oh, and nice topical burn with the CNN bit. YAWN.)
also how do i write a letter hack?! im searching all over the website and on the link and it isnt working! I need kirkman to retract his statement otherwise im killing myself.
Please go ahead and do that your ignorant view on people on the spectrum is not good for society and you will make sure there are no other stupidly like minded as you.
You must be a troll because you are a horrible person if you are not a troll. I have reread what you said and I have to say I was incredibly polite to you.
If I didn’t have a son on the spectrum I would stoll be disgusted that you drew Robert Kirkman saying he’s on the spectrum, to the conclusion that he’s a “retart”.
How fucking dare you, you have no clue what people on the spectrum deal with and as a parent I find your remark as offensive as the “N word”. As a parent with a child with autism I really hope that you live stream yourself on Facebook whilst driving your car, spouting your ignorant bullshit, crash your car and have your car set alight whilst you are still live you horrible cretin!!!! Actually horrible little CUNT!!!!
Please Robert don’t retract it allow this cunt to kill themselves you will be doing the world a favour.
Don’t waste your time with this hateful asshole. In fact, I hope he does write a letter to Robert and Sean, and I hope they do print it just so they can put this little shithead in his/her place.
Just write an email to the address listed at the top of the first page of the Letter Hacks.
In every issue, at the top of the letter hacks it says “write us at: *insert the email because I forgot* ”
Hope that helps.
Very reminiscent of Alexandria being overrun, which fascinates me. Here’s why: what was the takeaway from Alexandria? Basically, that zombies are manageable at this point, now humans are the problem. Then they dealt with Negan. So what’s left that they can’t deal with? A nasty combination of the two, humans weaponizing zombies.
I loved every bit of this issue! Rick and Negan made my day. Awesome! I can’t wait to see this part play out in the tv show.
the guy in the letter hacks that said negan sucks now was stupid negan isnt a bad guy the reason he was evil with the saviors is cause he thought that was the only way to keep them safe but in all out war at the end right before rick cut his neck you could see that negan just realised that there is a better way so DUH HES GONNA TRY AND BE APART OF IT i like how negan is a good guy i like bad guys who are good people like magneto (from x-men) and zuko (from avatar)
Negan was a bad guy before the Saviors. Cheating on a wife in hospital with cancer is a prick of a thing to do. I don’t understand why people want great villians watered down and turned into friendly characters for the kids. I want my villians evil. You ARE allowed to like evil people
I love nasty, evil villains & I love Negan because of how evil he is!
elfin, I believe the cheating took place prior to the diagnosis and Negan did dump that woman to be there for Lucille afterward. I’m not saying he was a good guy in any sense for that, but he could’ve kept that going while she was getting treated.
The impression I’d gotten from the backstory was that he’d dumped her before Lucille was hospitalized
i was sure he was still cheating and even through some nasty remarks at the woman whilst he was cheating with her while Lucille was in hospital. I agree that he at least showed a sense of guilt and remorse once he did find out.
Yes he was a bad guy and yes it’s okay to like fictional bad guys when they are bad
Negan is definitely a good case of blue and orange morality. But yeah, that dude in the letter hacks had like zero understanding of character nuance.
“Durrrr, Negan doesn’t be bad all da time??!!??! I want the old Negan back!!!”
Like. Get a grip. Every character in this comic has changed. Negan may be selfish. Negan may be egotistical. He may even be power-seeking. But he stills see civilization as a big picture. The Saviors, while terribly flawed, were led by a Negan who thought what was he doing was, in some way, the best chance civilization had of surviving. If you just want a Negan that slits throats and says one-liners then you’ve failed to read past the surface of his character and I’d say you really don’t love Negan as much as you think you do.
Well fucking said Grey. Well fucking said. Negan has always been multi-dimensional and morally grey, take him apologizing to Carl and his reaction to Rick’s speech in #125. Negan is violent because he believes it’s the answer to living in this world, not because he’s fucking Red Skull or Dr. Doom. And to elfin and the guy in the letter hack: evil doesn’t really exist in the real world. People who do bad things do it because they themselves believe that they are doing good. TWD had always been about the evolution of characters like they were real people. Hell, one of the biggest themes in the franchise as a whole is redemption. So Negan going through a redemption arc just makes him a more interesting and engaging character, and it makes him feel more like a real person.
I just don’t want Negan to be trusted, I love that unpredictability about him. All I worry is that he gets to ingrained with survivors and loses his edge. Which the burial of Lucille signified for me.
Maybe you should actually read what people write instead of trying to interperate what you think they have written.
“yes people evolve and change” is what I wrote.
Btw 1.Dr Doom has ‘nuances’ ever heard of Valerie Franklin??
Btw 2. There are Real Evil people in this world. I know this. Fact.
God forbid anyone have any free and independent thought. Nothing but a bunch of MINDLESS sheep with a HERD mentality. Quite ironic really.
Btw 3. I’m sure Kirkman loves all the ‘yes’ men.
~ Ahmed Abdul El Fin
K. You still clearly don’t get Negan though so.
some people think they *know* it all. what make them experts. definitely no psychologists or writers here. all characters are for personal interpretation but some think they *know* better than the rest and they *know* is truth. why when the door bell rings does the dog think it’s for him?
Negan is clearly not straight evil. It’s weird to me that they think he’s being untrue when we’re merely exploring more of who Negan is and has the potential to be. And characters are only sort of open to interpretation. Their explicit traits aren’t. You might argue something like “is Rick actually a bad guy?” is up to interpretation. That’s about his character. But specific character traits and personality are not really open to interpretation. They are what they’re presented to be. As is the case with Negan who isn’t just a one-liner villain.
Let me break down what you wrote as I feel like you kinda misinterpreted what I mean.
1. Yeah I shouldn’t have mentioned Red Skull or Dr. Doom since I don’t really read Marvel (or DC), so I don’t know that characters that well. That was my bad.
2. What I meant by their are no evil people in the real world is I don’t think anybody considers themselves evil. I mean don’t get me wrong, there are some horrible people in this world, but do they consider themselves evil or are they doing it because they are trying to further a gain they believe to be “good”? That’s what I meant. I bet there are people who consider themselves evil, and I bet they’re probably just a bunch of crazy freaks.
3. I don’t get how what I wrote has given you the impress that I’m a herd-conformist or a yes man. What Kirkman says has absolutely NOTHING to do with how I feel about Negan’s character. I was only stating how I genuinely feel about the character and giving examples as to why I feel that way. I was stating my own opinion, I wasn’t trying to force it on you or anyone else. I think it’s funny how you talk about herd-conformity and then get angry and call me a yes man when I state my own personal opinion. Quite ironic really.
I never mentioned conformity or claimed you were a yes man…? I can be quite insulting and pretentious, I’m aware, but nothing I said was even meant to imply those specific insults… ? You’re the only one who has thrown those words around so I think you’re pulling the supposed “irony” of that situation from the thin air around you.
I see your points about Negan and there probably are a few evil people. You might not like the direction his character is going but since this is what direction it’s going, this is ultimately part of who Negan is.
Oh, ignore that Darksmith. I see you’re not talking to me. That’s my bad!! Man, the fact that these comment chains have reply limits do not make flowing discussion very easy.
Sorry, evil DOES exist in the real world.
it feels like you say everything i think 😀 btw… i love your cute little picture
Thank you!!
Wow! This issue was a helluva ride! Seeing that “ocean of the dead” as Rick called it, gave me the same horror that it gave them! And when Michonne jumped off her horse to kill walkers, I thought she was gonna die! And when Rick tripped and fell, I thought that he was gonna get eaten or at least bit! And I was blown away to see the cold-hearted Negan jump in and save Rick when Rick’s death was certain! I do think that Negan will want something in return though. Can’t wait ’til the next issue! (I hate cliffhangers!!!) I hope we see our heroes get by this attack or at least move to Hilltop to avoid the deaths of any important characters cause honestly, seeing Rick or Andrea die would just make the story so much different! Anyway, 10/10 on this issue. Hopefully, 164 shows our heroes taking down the walker threat!
Alexandria is on the edge of extinction, Negan saved Rick’s life and is proving more and more he wants to contribute to the community, all of our beloved characters are scattered around the map. All while Beta walks away, I wanted Negan to beat the Holy hell out of him so bad.THIS IS INTENSE. Bought the 1:200 variant cover just because Rick dressed as Negan.
I get that everyone loves Negan, but Glenn is still my favorite… so Negan has to go soon. Though I am interested to see how Maggie will react to his release.
Man oh man, this was an exiting issue, I was mildly surprised when Negan came to ricks rescue. I think he may begin to be trusted, but they should still keep an eye on him, he is Negan after all.
I have to disagree with the person who said Eugene is normal (Eugeneisnormal I believe their name was) he is 100% on the spectrum. This is not a bad thing in fact it is an incredible and wonderful thing to see. Given the fact he is not only important to the survival of this and the last arc but it’s been confirmed he is important moving forward.
In today’s society we try to class people on the spectrum as normal to make is feel better but they are not they are unique and wonderful human beings.
However, the fact we have people saying “He’s normal leave him alone” shows that at one person doesn’t see him as normal and someone that needs protecting. I haven’t seen anyone use the term “retarted” so if someone said that then that’s wrong.
As a father of an autistic boy I find it hugely proud that there is a person on the spectrum that is such a vital part of a book I have become increasingly invested in.
This issue had me open mouthed pretty much the whole issue and I can see this arc changing everything. I am so glad Rick didn’t die and I am on the edge of my seat at the thought of a Negan Rick partnership.
Kirkman and Co you are amazing keep up the good work.
I am 100% behind this mindset and I’m sure you have a lovely boy. He’s fortunate to have an understanding father like you.
Thank you very much he’s the sweetest boy and his autism isn’t a hindrence or something that defines him at all and that’s what I love about what Robert Kirkman has created with Eugene.
Thanks again Dezbound
Sorry Dezbound I just re read what Eugeneisnormal said and at 0420 it has got me raging I was very diplomatic but obviously it’s because I skim read it. I’m really a short fused angry man when it comes to my son.
Negan really proved himself this issue, we’ll see if he can be trustworthy, can’t believe it was only $.25!
Negans transformation was laid out right before us going back to issue 151 with the conversation between rick and Vincent I believe. Rick tells him just because someone does awful things it doesn’t make them a bad person. If that person is killed, then all of the good they are capable of won’t happen. Just after this conversation rick goes to check on negan.
Point two is in the calm before the whisperer war when negan reaches for Lucille and Dwight tells him he is never getting her back. Negan says you will give her to me. What happens when Big Frowniemctwoknives shows up on the scene? Dwight tosses Lucille to negan. The rest is sad history. So I applauded negans transformation. Come on, you guys want to follow boring one dimensional characters? Not me. Keep up the awesome work The Walking Dead team!
I like your username, stranger.~
I think issue #163 of The Walking Dead was amazing! The horde of thousands of walkers is something that Rick and his group have never encountered before and I can’t even think of how to get rid of that many. The way they all team up to figure this out is what I love about his group. I also love how Eugene pushed through his tiredness to help keep Alexandria afloat, THATS DETERMINATION! And when Andrea called Rick “Honey” I screamed, I love Rick and Andrea so much. I also love how determined they all are. Andrea also looks really cute on horses. I can’t even imagine the amount of walkers that have torn their way through the walls of Alexandrea, that trench they dug was pretty deep. Michonne also slays so much. Negan never fails to amaze me. He steps up and does what the Alexandrian’s are afraid to do and he makes it look like it’s nothing. He helps Rick and still has his sense of ass-like humor. I love it. And RIP Paula, she was a pretty cool woman and will be missed 🙁 AND JOHN AT THE END THOUGH! Over all I think issue #163 was really well written and drawn. I can’t wait for issue #164 to see what happens to Rick and Alexandria, will they flee, fight, or burn Alexandria down? I have no idea at this point. Thanks for another awesome issue Robert and Sean!
~Sara
I really wanted the color variant of the 163, so to make the comic store hit the 200 copies, now a case of 160 copies of 163 sits next to my desk. I`ve been thinking of what to do with 160 copies. I took one copy and used my 3 year old son`s crayons and colored it in. It`s given me a greater appreciation for the art of the book
Charlie Adlard`s art is amazing, Some things I noticed:
How overgrown buildings have become. roofs caved in and trees growing out, roads overgrown with grass. Alexandria is so green(and brown with all of the new wood).
How the horde erased the green and brown. in the pits the pikes started brown and were pure red by the end of the page. pretty much the same thing with the gate (which i guess Earl made?). by the time this arc finishes Alexandria will be a much different place.
Dwights burn scar is so well drawn. Most times I colored it in along the borders of the art, you can see a clear shape of the iron.
I wonder how Alexandrian’s will get out of this one? Walker guts method. Pick my comment if i’m wrong!
I have to say, I love how this fan base is so united. Well, for the most part. The whole conversation regarding Eugene ( who has always been one of my favorites) reminds me of letter hacks way back when someone had the audacity to criticize Kirkman for having a strong gay character ( Jesus). When I read that letter, the top of my head blew off. The characters are who they are, and because of that we love them. This is not the zombie apocalypse on the Planet of the Robots. EVERYONE brings something of value to the whole group. Thanks, friends, for defending our team.
I also enjoyed the comic. This is going to sound very strange but it was nice to see the zombies as the main adversary again. The Rick/Negan thing left me very uneasy. I just keep remembering how Negan was completely buffaloed into believing Rick’s peaceful scenario, then BAM slashed his throat! Negan is 100% ego and bravado. He can also play the part of whatever he needs to to accomplish his goals. Is he really to be trusted or is he setting up the ultimate betrayal to get even with Rick? I hope it doesn’t go down that way.
Sidebar, maybe my eyes are starting to fail me but it looks like Andreas facial scar is gone.. anyone notice that?
John, whatever. Maybe Negan will go rejoin the Saviors and fight the other camps. Anything could happen.
I just gotta say, I really don’t understand why the folks that seem to hate this story (i.e. the guy that pissed Kirkman off in letter hacks) keep reading/watching. I continuously see people bash the walking dead on posts, etc month after month. I love everything about it, that’s why I continue to follow. Some people don’t seem to have a good thing to say about either. My opinion is, if you have to criticize every little detail and you dislike the story so much, stop reading/watching. I, for one, truly appreciate the hard work that’s put into creating the walking dead, and I hope y’all continue creating this amazing story, forever. THANK YOU!!!
I agree with you 100000% ( <- that's not a real number) but is still agree that much! People watch and read the walking dead, and than they criticize it to no end. I think people should voice their opinion on what they don't like, but in a constructive criticism way not "this sucks" way. Keep up the amazing Robert and crew!
Dear Mr. Kirkman. Mr. Adlard. To the new guys as well.
Been reading this epic since 04. Not waving my dick around. Just saying I grew wits these characters. What happened to Michonne in Woodbury scarred me. Not because it was shock factor. That was the moment the walking dead stopped being Romero. That’s when it became Kirkman. Killing Lori and Judith like that! I remember closing that volume. I cried a bit. I got them in volumes you see. Vol 9. Here we remain. The impact that had. Mowing through all that in one sitting. I read Batman. Still nothing compares to the shift in Carl. It ended with the the fictional man I’d grow to love. Sergeant Abraham Ford. Cudlitz fucking rocked it. To get to my point. I kinda gave up after the start of The Whisperer War. Despite it all. I love Negan. He won my heart, but in the beginning. I thought he should have died. I was waiting for the eventual. Muahahahaha. Suck my dick! I didn’t want that. Keep Negan pure I thought. Well my roommate got a copy of 163 for free, from our not so local comic store. Knows I’m a fan. Knows I’ve lost my faith. I’ve got some catching up, but I look forward to it. This is definitely going on my pull list. Thank you, all of you for your hard work. Sorry I lost it for a while, but like Rick. I can see there’s a larger world out there.
P.S.
JDM fucking kills it. A part of me still wanted Rollins. I get it though. If you can get an All Star player. You get the All Star player. Cause damn. Anyway. Can you make sure the “shitting pants” makes it to at least DVD. Please?!?
OK. 163 yooooooo. Bruhhhhhhhh. Who almost died when Rick almost died??? Who soul left and returned when Negan saved him. Brooooo woah. Good shit Kirkman. Bro my guy Eugene is the only one who knows it’s another community looming in Ohio. They’re probably going to utilize that at some point. Saviors lurking is bad for business. I think we might take another heavy loss next issue. I hope Michonne and Jesus don’t get ambushed by the saviors. Or get caught in the thick of a horde like that. Ma’am bro this was a good ass issue. And yes the artwork was next to immaculate. The ride out panel. The horses survivor’s riding out. Ricks fear when he fell. Eugene’s real adrenalized exhaustion. I’m officially on the Negan is on ricks side team. I say that because Negan had had many times to cross and backstab rick yet all he’s done is make Advancement’s and productive things for Rick. Advice or action. Walking dead 2017 still hottest $#!+ out
Hey all, my letter was published in this issue, and I was the one asking about the location of Robert’s balls, and I just want to explain what was going through my head when I wrote it in case people think I’m a “hater.”
I want to start out with The Walking Dead literally consumes my life. I love it with a passion. My love for it doesn’t waiver even if I didn’t think TWW lived up to my expectations.
I originally thought TWW was going to be a brutal annihilation of our survivors, mainly because of Alpha’s cunning and ability to kill 14 survivors on her own. I kept thinking “if one person could do that, imagine what they all could do” and that’s what I hoped for every issue. And after 161, I was more frustrated than anything that nothing had really happened. It was all just one big “attack” that was never even meant to be an attack. After reading the arc as a whole, I see that it wasn’t meant to be the biggest war, but that it was meant to lead up to 163. 163 has been a culmination of everything. They have to stand together. All of them. It reaffirms that belief that its people vs the dead and not people vs people.
And, after Kirkman’s comments about why less people die, I do see what he means. They are all experienced now, they’ve all lived through some tough shit.
tl;dr 163 makes up for my comment about Kirkman mislocating his balls
Whoa. It’s really cool that you fessed up to that and explained what you were going for. And I mean, to be honest on my end, I can see where you’re coming from kinda. It does sometimes feel that the main characters are too safe these days. But I see what Kirkman means as well. These characters are survivors. They’r’e hardened.
It makes sense for the story, but I don’t think it’s very realistic, just cause they are good at killing zombies and whatnot doesn’t mean they would survive everything consistently. That’s like saying a pro football player should never get injured. I do think that the whisperer war was a bit of a letdown in this regard. The characters feel way too safe, but there’s no way to really fix that problem. I’m sure that the comic will go on for at least 500 issues, and we aren’t even half way there yet. Still the story remains top notch and Kirkman consistently finds ways to make big story moments come front and center. But yeah I feel like the main characters do have some plot armor now.
I can get that, too. And it’s worth thinking… while the survivors are badass because they’ve made it this long, you have to consider that everyone else still around has survived just as long.
It sucks that others feel that they can tell you that your opinion or feelings are wrong. While I will say you were rude but good on you for having an opinion. It’s pretty obvious you are not a hater and care for the direction the story goes. The rest of these suckers just try to kiss tha ass of Mr Kirkman without actually offering anything.
C’mon a bat and a cane died in this arc…what more do you want?
Disappointed with no main character death, but overall one of my favorite walking dead issues! The only thing better than seeing Negan save Rick was hearing Rick say, listen to the man! Even if listening to Negan was a terrible idea, I feel like Paula saw that coming and listening to Negan got her killed. And Rick’s face when Negan saved him was like the face on the cover of 157, just pure rage. The badassery was high with this one and seeing the walkers I could only imagine how terrifying and gory that would be in real life. I mean walker feet squishing on top of piles of walker heads, yuck! The moat is going to be a pile of human mush by the time this is over. Anyways, I will treasure my 163 variants forever as I await the next main character death. I’m hoping Beta kills Andrea in 200 just because she’s been a highly speculated death and it would just give us what a lot of people want. I feel like Negan will inevitably get a love interest though, so maybe Beta will get payback then. Anyways, can’t wait for the next issue in only a few weeks!
Nobody here wants Andrea dead.
Rick and Negan bout to drop the hardest mixtape in
apocalypse history! lol
LOLs!!
I was a bit upset when I saw the revealing cover of A House Fallen (The next issue), but that didn’t retract from the intensity and downright adrenaline-filled pages. Another solid issue
Lol. I like that someone took the time to downvote every comment I made. Looks like I pissed someone off.
Fist bump
My Sniper, on the horse…
“REGULATORS, mount up!!”
Oh & Alexandria is the new Wiltshire Estates.
What good are these boards if we can’t piss each other off once in awhile 😉
I often wonder how my votes would play out if I actually mean to piss people off.
Someone always seems to ghost you and downvote you by default for some reason so I can’t even imagine.
They make it all too obvious that I have a strong effect on them. I just take that as it is… that I strongly affected them. And I just smile. >:)
Or ( horror of horrors) you may make them THINK and possibly in some rudimentary way CHANGE THEIR MINDS!
Not that they would admit it though….
I know what Negan’s backstory, but does Robert Kirkman ever say it in the series or do they say it in the show? I know about Lucille, but what about like what happened before all of that happened?
