New World Order may be over but the story between Rick and the Commonwealth is just beginning. See where our main characters stand in our Power Rankings for Issue 180 of The Walking Dead.
1. Rick (+1)
Yes, Rick! Tell Pamela she’s full of it. Rick easily regained his title as the most powerful character in The Walking Dead after he expertly stood up to Pamela, the leader of a much larger and more powerful community. Sure, he may not have the military, population, or rules of law that Pamela has, but Rick likes it like that. As Pamela noted, Rick’s equal with his community and maybe a new world order should work for a community like the Commonwealth. This is the Rick Grimes we love!
2. Pamela (-1)
The case we just laid out for Rick means that Pamela has to take a step down in our Power Rankings. As we said, Pamela’s way of life is getting judged and challenged (in her eyes) by a far inferior community. Plus, we learned this issue that she didn’t even found Commonwealth, she just took it! If you take the military away from both leaders, it’s clear that Rick would hold more power.
3. Maggie
We’re keeping Maggie this high because of her sustained leadership at Hilltop. Hopefully she’ll also get to meet Pamela soon.
4. Eugene
Eugene completed his task and assured Rick everything with Michonne is fine…for now. It’s refreshing to see Eugene’s character development in the past few story arcs, here’s to hoping it continues.
5. Michonne
Michonne was right – things seem way too good to be true at the Commonwealth. She’s reunited with her daughter, she’s got a job, and she’s been gifted a luxury apartment to boot. Even without her katana, Michonne looks to hold quite a bit of power in the Commonwealth. But how long can it last?
6. Officer Mercer
As the leader of Pamela’s brute military force Mercer is tasked with protecting the leader of the Commonwealth. Although he frequently gets pushed around and asked to do things he doesn’t want to, it seems like Mercer’s a dormant volcano waiting to erupt. Don’t sleep on Mercer!
7. Dwight (NEW)
After going MIA for the last few issues we decided to return Dwight to our rankings. It’s good to him leave behind over his hatred of Rick and actually defend him for once. Sure, Rick scolded him for doing so, but it’s clear Dwight’s one of the more powerful members of Alexandria.
8. Princess
This issue gave us the Rick/Princess reunion we’ve wanted since we first met her in Pittsburgh, and it was even more awkward than we could have imagined! It’s unclear what Princess’ role will be in Alexandria if she stays, but her fighting skills and passionate energy will be a welcome addition to wherever she lands.
9. Lance (-1)
Lance is up to something, isn’t he? Just look at that sh*t-eating grin, he HAS to be up to something! One of you guys pointed out he’s pampering Michonne to use her for collateral later. It’s possible, but whatever he’s doing, it probably IS too good to be true.
10. Sebastian (-3)
We were blessed to have an issue without Sebastian, and for that we’ll knock that brat down a few pegs.
11. Magna (-2)
Magna wasn’t in this issue so we’re also moving her down, but expect to see more of her soon.
12. Yumiko (-1)
Same goes for Yumiko.
13. Elodie
Things are looking up for Elodie. From the new apartment to the new job to the new opportunities, what could POSSIBLY go wrong here? Oh right, everything.
14. Carl
Carl wasn’t in this issue but still plays a valuable role at Hilltop. Until that changes either way, he’s staying put on our list.
15. Siddiq (-3)
Siddiq hasn’t done much lately so we’re bumping him down a few notches.
16. Jesus (-2)
Jesus and Aaron will re-appear in the next few issues so be on the look out.
17. Aaron (-1)
Ditto ^^^
18. Dante (-1)
Dante’s only on here because of his ties to Maggie.
On the Bubble: Sophia, Heath, and Laura.
That wraps up this month’s character Power Rankings for Issue 180! What did YOU think of the new list? Let us know in the comments!
It looks like it will be an interesting story moving forward, really excited to see Rick again! Can’t wait to see that issue with the commonwealth on fire! Going to be good. I hope Michonne gets her groove back!!
