THE WALKING DEAD issue #167 is out NOW! It’s going to be all right. Take a deep breath. We’ll all get through this together! Once you’ve processed your thoughts, spill all your feelings into a comment down below. We’ll be awarding our favorite comment with a signed issue of THE WALKING DEAD #167!
PREVIOUSLY: Just after reinforcements arrive from Hilltop to aid Alexandria against the last of the horde, the Saviors make their move. Rick and Sherry negotiate in private, but the talk doesn’t go as planned. Sherry attacks Rick, who then accidentally kills her in self-defence. Soon after, Andrea walks through the door and collapses, revealing a bite on her neck.
That was a rough one, even though we saw it coming for a few issues. I wanted it to be anything other than a bite, but deep down, knew it was a bite. I tried to rationalize it, maybe she’s immune, maybe the plague is over. It wasn’t to be. This is the biggest death since Glenn (which was ruined for me two days before my issue came in and still really hurt).
I loved how Jesus told her it was a story that people would tell for years, and I think he’s right. Personally I’ll never forget her popping out of that horde on horseback with Eugene. There’s not been many moments of pure victory in the series like that, it was like a movie. Even that only lasted a couple panels.
Even Negan was awesome with one line, telling her he would have been honored if she would have been the one to kill him, and of course being Negan and saying she was so hot.
I think her last big speech to Rick will play back in his head for a long time. Any time he feels weak. It will be interesting to see if he ever finds another woman that makes him happy.I know they did it on the show, but Michonne is the only one that really seems like a current option.
The way the issue spent all of the time with Andrea and ignored sherry and Dwight should not be overlooked. I totally understand the upcoming cover now and can see it happening. Dwight had hate in his eyes. I also noticed that everyone that came to talk to Andrea was waiting outside the house except Negan. I wonder if he’s helping to sort out the saviors or he’s finally seen his opportunity to screw over Rick. Which I hope is not the case, he could be a Hell of an asset
Can’t wait for AMC to Fuck this one up
I can’t believe she is gone. I will miss her.
I read Robert Kirkman’s letter a the end of the comic. I am a writer working on my first novel and I get it. Sometimes the story and characters are in control. Awful things pop into your head and you think “Where the hell did that come from?” I am struggling with some deaths of my characters and I stopped writing for a while. I could not bring myself to kill my creation. It is like I am killing one of my children. People sometimes think writers just causally kill off characters to advance the plot. That is wrong. I also know how it feels to write down plot lines in a public place and cry. I did that at a fast food place and my kids were like “what’s wrong mommy?” People don’t realize how hard it is to be a writer
“One Last Shot”
Andrea was always strong for her Rick.
She stood by his side through the thin and the thick.
And now she is gone although she had fought.
Was she really Rick’s one last shot?
Our devasted hero stood by her bed
Hoping this nightmare was just in his head.
“This cannot be!” aloud he thought.
“My Andrea girl is all I’ve got!”
She noticed his worrisome talk all the while
The sniper continued to trigger a smile.
“‘We don’t die!’ may be an afterthought,
But think of the good times that we bought.”
He struggles to speak a comforting word.
As tears roll down, nothing’s assured.
“There’s nothing left to be sought.
I can’t go on! I will not!”
“Yes, you will!” She yelled at him.
“They need you to lead through all of the grim!
If you don’t keep fighting, all will be for naught!
You can do it, my Rick! They need you a lot!”
With her last words still ringing in his ears,
They seemed to overwhelm all of his fears.
She’ll always be with him and never forgot.
Her words were an arsenal not one last shot!
Its always hard to see a character go, especially one who has been with us so long. That being said, this was an excellently crafted issue and seeing all the characters say goodbye really helped give us closure to what was happening. Wonderful issue.
This was a hard read… I’ve never actually cried while reading The Walking Dead. It was hard to get through, but I think it was done well, the panels with all of the characters coming in to see Andrea was a lovely touch.
Wow. That was just a gut wrenching issue. It is extremely obvious that Robert feels a lot for all these characters. His love for Andrea was especially evident. What a way for her to go out. Nice job and I can’t wait to see where the comic goes from here. In Rick we trust!
I really loved that Kirkman dedicated an entire Issue to Andrea and wrote us a letter to with it. Andrea has been the Biggest Bad Ass in the Books since coming back on top the RV at the Prison War. She had so many cool scenes. Two of my favourites are when she shoots the finger off The Hunter and when she Kills the Sniper before he shoot Rick. Of course her saving Eugene will forever be #1. She will be missed dearly but never forgotten. I really liked Glen but this is different the ‘we don’t die’ made it more impactful.
RIP Andrea!
Every1s favorite SharpShooter
P.s Some1 pls make a tribute video on Youtube with all of her Best Panels!
This was a terrific issue and a truly fitting end for Andrea.
There are a couple of niggles. I loved the extra length of the issue but I thought a couple of the likenesses weren’t as sharp as always. Only really noticed because Charlie and Stefano are always incredible though.
Also, I found the Sherry plot — one of the main storylines of the last 6 months — being brushed aside so casually a little frustrating. I hope we see what Dwight did next month or it’s going to seem like a rather pointless diversion.
Still. Excellent stuff.
Kind of hope they don’t go down the Rick/Michonne route. I like both characters and there have been what seems like hints at times (Michonne’s “isn’t that what you have Andrea for?” line way back) but it almost feels too obvious. I could see Magna being a more obvious love interest though.
I think the savior story was purposely pushed to the side. It helps to reinforce the saviors grievances against the other communities. During the fair I remember someone calling them the red headed step children, and that not a single person moved to the sanctuary after all out war.
Rick went inside to negotiate, killed the person he mediated with and just ran off and left a zombie bomb because someone was bite. Dwight has some real grievances that I can see issue 169 happening
Rick isn’t getting with any one for a long while but i definitely don’t want Rick and Magna. I’d be fine with Rick and Michonne. They’ll need to to get there and so will the readers.
I have read comics for over 32 years, I love comics. But never has a comic book got me choked up, verklempt, and even cause me to lose my appetite. That was until The Walking Dead #167…. quite possibly the best comic book of all time. Kirkman you magnificent bastard.
Meet Andrea
Amazing issue, although Andrea’s death was sad, I’m glad it wasn’t a fake out and it was a bite and not a bullet graze as many people thought (and hoped). The page at the end with all the characters comforting Rick with their hands on each other’s shoulders was a really nice way to end the issue, and to show that Rick could still lead his people as Andrea would want him to. The only negative about this issue was how the saviors story was sidelined, you’d think the saviors wondered where Sherry went, it had been all day and over night, even if Dwight had apparently been keeping them busy. But I’m sure this will all lead into the next issue where Negan will deal with the saviours as shown by the cover. I hope that Dwight won’t turn against Rick over Sherry’s death, even though the issue 169 cover seems to hint that he might. Only 5 weeks to the next issue…
In Kirkman’s Justifcation that this had to happen to propel where the story is going, I also feel it really was necessary to ground where it has been. It’s a dangerous, deadly world beyond the safety of the walls and sometimes when the characters rebound from all out war or whisperer war or zombie horde to the next, it needs those real stakes, and in the text of what the issue was about, it’s resonates a little more in speaking about life than being just a never ending zombie movie….and that’s what makes TWD one of the greatest comics of all time. Great issue.
Upon reading this issue I started to suffer from this weird illness/condition. I called my doctor to make an appointment because this clear liquid tried to escape through my eyes. I was concerned my eyeballs had busted and was leaking some sort of fluid. I then put down my comic and walked outside on this warm Texas day. I went into my yard where I kicked over a keg of beer. With the Walking Dead theme song playing I placed one foot on top of it Captain Morgan style, grabbed a fist full of bacon, held out the American flag while a bald eagle landed upon my forearm. The fluid ceased and a crisis was averted.
In all seriousness, this was an exceptional issue. I look forward to them ever month but there are a handful of issues that just exceed my expectations. This was one of them. The way the emotion was captured and brought to life on paper was great. This will truly have some interesting ramifications to come. I hate to see Andrea go(as many of us do I’m sure), but I know the story that will grow from this will be worth the sacrifice. I have only had this issue a few hours, and I’m already counting down the days until the next issue.
Currently still crying like a little baby over this one. This one got me good. I don’t think I have ever been this upset over a characters death before. Andrea meant so much to me. She showed me that even if you are female you can still be strong and independent. She broke out of that stero typical female character roll. Didn’t take anyone’s shit! It’s killing me to know that she will no longer be in the new issues to come.
My three year old got an action figure at the comic book store as a prize for using the potty. This comic really hit me hard as I read it in the parking lot(as I always do). I’m driving away sniffing a bit and my son asks what’s wrong. I said “daddy is sad, his comic book is sad”. He told me, “no you’re happy, I got toy”
Well… I guess all those “she’s not bitten” posts just went up in smoke and ash.
It was nice… having this issue end without the usual Letter Hacks and instead… a eulogy. A legitimate eulogy for this character that has been around so long and grown so much. The inversion of “we don’t die” had me captured. “People die… we’re people.”
An excellent issue, Andrea passed away as a queen, reconciled and firm, and gave one last speech to Rick, the one he may always use to get up. The final convention was epic, when all important characters stood up for Rick, with his most loyal close to him – Carl, Maggie, Aaron, Jesus and Michonne. I only missed Dante in this group, and Dwight.
Dwight looked angry, he didn’t even say goodbye to Andrea. I think that the next issue will run at least partially concurrently with #167. Dwight has to deal with the Saviors and Sherry’s situation. And what about Negan? There has to be a confrontation with Maggie (Negan also said goodbye to Andrea in his typical style, but maybe somehow avoided Maggie?). Negan could theoretically seize the opportunity and claim the leadership back, thus forcing Dwight to step up.
This issue is the most heartbreaking one since Glenn’s dead in #100, Andrea was to me a survivor, a tough woman, and I really like how her relation with Rick evolve, even though all of the character’s deaths in TWD always helped to make this series more interesting, more compeling.
Every issue of TWD is important, never understimate the potencial of this comic book, it’s HUGE!
All I can say is damn! I thought I was being misdirected because we never see the bite but it’s a sad day for twd comic family but we all must see the big picture and trust that Mr.Kirkman wouldn’t just kill off a character that made him get teary eyed over if it wasn’t for something huge coming up. I can’t wait for the next few issues to see what this story will devolve into !R.I.P Andrea?
Wow, I don’t even know what to say. I’m a recent reader compared to most of you, I started reading 2 years ago and I managed to catch up with the comics exactly at the release date of #144. I felt this empty feeling inside when we saw all of those characters dead, especially Ezekiel. The last moment we see him alive is one where he is happy and hopeful. Then the next time we see him he’s dead. That absolutely shattered me. It made me realize how cruel their world is and sometimes, how cruel our world is as well. This time, I felt the same thing, except Andrea was my favorite character, not only because of her badassery. I always compared her to a spring. You can deform or compact it as much as you want, but it will always bounce back. And I believe that’s what makes us have such deep relations with characters, not only when we identify ourselves with a character, but when we look up to one. Who didn’t want to be a superhero like the ones in comics when we were younger? Fuck, who still doesn’t want to be?
Just like Ezekiel, when Andrea found happiness, tragedy struck. Before this issue, I had a glimmer of hope that it was not a bite, that she would survive, but this issue, seeing her in her bed, dying slowly, it just destroyed me. While she was dying, I felt like part of me was dying. And when she died, I felt like part of me died too. Because, how I said, I identified myself with her character and looked up to her.
Many deep messages have been transmitted during the comics, most of which we will all carry with us for the rest of ours lives. The most important one I learned throughout my journey reading this piece of art is that life is short. And no, I don’t mean it in the “you only live once” way, but rather in the “EVERYBODY only lives once” way. You may die tomorrow, or you may die in 50 years, but so can people around you. Just when Andrea and Ezekiel died, I realized this, and I need to thank Kirkman for that.
I just want to conclude that we need to love people beside us, because you never know when death will happen until it’s too late.

RIP Andrea
#2 – #167
Oh my God, he did it. Robert Kirkman actually killed off Andrea. I really didn’t think he had the balls. I’m both sad and angry. It’s like somebody instills hope that something bad won’t happen, and then crushes you in the most hurtful way. I never knew, but Andrea was my favorite character in this series. I didn’t know until now. I’m feeling like I’m the only one who doesn’t like this. Alas, I can’t say this was a bad issue. It was agreat heartfelt goodbye to a character we’ve been with since literally the very begging. It’s the equivalent to losing Han Solo in The Force Awakens. But I don’t have to like what happened, and I don’t. I still pray Robert unveils this was all a big messed up joke, but I know he won’t. This isn’t the plague causing aliens. This is the death of Andrea, and it’s very real. This is the only thing I’ve ever read that managed to make me cry (and I’ve read suicide notes). So, I guess this is goodbye. I feel like Rick is being to not hot headed about this. He didn’t just get over Lori, he spent a long time thinking about her. Now that Andrea, someone he loves more than he ever did Lori, has died and he’s just like “Let’s get back to work.” I understand it was Andrea’s final wish, but it just really hurts. Goodbye, Andrea. You will be missed by me and everyone who read this comic. I guess Queen was right, who wants to live forever…
Wow. What an absolutely incredible issue.
Even though we’ve known Andrea’s death has been coming for a few months now, it doesn’t make it any less hard.
I am truly glad that Andrea that Andrea was able to go the way she did. She got to go out peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones.
That’s something Glenn didn’t get.
That’s something Abraham didn’t get.
That’s something Hershel, Lori, Ezekiel, and almost every character wasn’t able to get.
It feels hard losing a main character like this. I’ve been a reader for several years now and I thought I would be able to hold it in. I thought I was fine but once I finished reading Kirkman’s letter at the end, I got super emotional.
What a fantastic end to a fantastic character. I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here!
Wow. The feels. This one was a hard one and Kirkman’s thoughts at the end had even more impact. Despite the loss, there was so much hope. And strength. This was an amazing issue. I know Andre has to die. But this was perfect. She died in peace, surrounded by those who she loves. That’s a victory.
And Negan. God love him. Needed that bit of comic relief. Perfect timing.
This issue was both fantastic, beautifully drawn and well written, but I must say; Negan won this issue with a single frame.
Meh I never really cared for her character, the way she got together with Rick felt way too forced. And I can’t get over her relationship with Dale, he was too old for her. Hopefully Kirkman will give us Richonne in the comics too, the real power couple . They are both single now, nothing can stop them. Thank you Kirkman for making it possible.
So I wanted to get angry, I wanted to e furious, I wanted to go Negan with my vocabulary. But in the end, I couldn’t do or say anything. The only thing I can do, is congratulate you on an amazing issue. I spent 5 minutes just sobbing after this issue, but in the end, Andrea had a strong way to go out. No other issue in the Walking Dead made me feel as much emotion as this one, and I appreciate that from you as an author Robert. Thank you for an amazing issue, can’t wait for next month.
-Andi Tiscareno
When I went to my LCS today to grab my copy, the owner said “This one’s special!” They don’t generally bring up “The Walking Dead” so abruptly, but so many people were asking for copies of this issue that it prompted them to read it right away. I was warned that this one was special! I hatched a plan to come home, sit on my balcony and read it while sipping iced tea…
So, I did just that! I got settled in, wrapped myself in a blanket and began my journey. As I read, I noticed that the sunset was masked behind the darkest of clouds. The sky was the purest blue, yet the clouds remained dark and heavy. It seemed like the perfect storm!
I sat there reading away, letting it all sink in. Upon completion, I just sat back and watched the clouds, heavy, with soft round edges, carved by the light; seeming to represent balance. It was so peaceful, so serene. For quite some time I remained there – pensive.
Thanks for such an incredible journey. It placed a lovely, poetic period at the end of an otherwise ordinary day.
I haven’t cried this hard about a comic since Shiva died. Holy cannoli. Andrea was so amazing, such a great character, SO STRONG! I dare say she was stronger than Rick. Even as she’s dying she’s still pushing him, reinforcing how important all of this is. I had SO many feels reading this because of course, I was devastated. I cried into my salad on my lunch break basically making my dressing a mix of Raspberry Vinaigrette and Tears. But at the end, after he breaks down to Carl and Carl is holding him, and he repeats what Andrea said.. I got chills. There was still that silver lining despite everything, and her words are gonna push him to not give up. Bravo Mr. KIRKMAN, for making me feel every damn emotion in one issue, but also I kind of hate you, because Andrea was my girl.
That was rough. Eventho I knew it was coming, I still held out hope that Andrea would survive somehow.
It’s an oddly powerful thing to become emotionally attached to comic book characters and feel so upset when one of them dies. She will be missed, but her powerful message will live on. Kudos to Mr. Kirkman for continuing to “go there”.
Yay! Main character death! 🙂
I spent a lot of time with each page this issue. Even when people were saying their goodbyes part of me still didn’t believe Andrea was really going to die. Series that run as long as The Walking Dead has are special because you look forward to spending time with these characters every month. I understand what Kirkman was talking about in that classy letter at the end. I felt like I was in the room with Rick. I could feel his sorrow, his pain. I could feel Andrea’s warmth of heart as she used her last moments to bestow wisdom upon others. Her grace in accepting her last moments as a gift. As someone who read the trades a long time before picking up the issues, I became so much more immersed in the series reading it month to month and reading all of the great comments here and across the internet. Going to the comic store and picking up the issue on the day it comes out is really awesome for some reason, (even though I read it on my iphone at midnight because I couldn’t wait :)). I’m glad I was around this time for such a monumental issue. To me this issue is just as big as 100 and was just as thrilling to read. Seeing Andrea as a walker was AWESOME! When Rick put the gun to her head I thought “No throw that away, it isn’t right”. Then I slid my finger across the screen and Rick did exactly that. It was a really badass how Rick did what needed to be done and then walked out into his community to lead his people. I could keep going on about how much I loved this issue, but I’ve been typing this one comment for an hour now as I reread Andrea’s last appearance and soak in all of the great artwork. I’m sure as time goes on the series will only continue to grow as new fans discover it. But I was there when Andrea died. For some reason that means something to me. Rest in peace Andrea.
Andrea you grew into a very strong, smart and mature woman. You became the rock of Richard Grimes himself, saved multiple peoples’ asses, turned over a war and overall added life to our group of survivors. I will miss you a ton. We all will. I hope you rest peacefully. Thank you for such an amazing character Kirkman and I hope to see more moments like this, hopefully not under similar circumstances.
“You have to stay strong! Otherwise, this was all for nothing…”
A masterpiece of storytelling.. I thought FOR SURE we were in for a twist, but it was a straight-forward, brutally simple issue, as usual. This is why I don’t care so much that the show has gone downhill, because the book will ALWAYS be the better story. The REAL (Uncanny? lol) Walking Dead.
Never apologize Mr Kirkman, you have my absolute faith. Cant wait to see what’s next!
Fucking phenomenal issue period.
Very sad to see her go, wish she was still on the show and in the comic.
RIP ANDREA!!!
WE’LL MISS YOU DEARLY! :'(
Jeez, I’ve never had such a tough time reading a comic book in my entire life. I ended up with a huge lump in my throat and applauding those panels ceaseless. And that letter from Kirkman just made it even harder.
I will really miss Andrea. She was a badass and a pilar in everything they build. Andrea, Rick and Carl went through a lot, it’s so sad to see her go, but at least it was in a very classy way (hell, even Negan said his goodbye!). Her speech will resonate forever in Rick’s head, and that moment when he’s outside and everyone had his back after he fell in sadness, was one of the best moments in the entire TWD universe. SO AWESOME!
Thank you Mr. Kirkman, and you have nothing to apologize for. This, this is what makes your comic book one of the greatest ever.
R.I.P. Andrea
My favorite thing about TWD universe is that all of the major deaths have a profound impact on the world around them. These characters (Glenn, Andrea, Ezekiel etc.) may die physically, but their ideals carry on. Like the way Rick locked up Negan because “Glenn would have wanted it that way”. Look at Negan now, one of my favorite characters (Even more so than when he first hit the scene). Or how the realization that Michone didn’t spend enough time with Ezekiel while he was around, which thrust her back into the main story and changed how she spends her days. Now here, with Andrea, she makes this profound statement that “we all die, but its what we leave behind that matters” really makes all these deaths so much more meaningful! Thank you for everything you guys do over at Image! Truly amazing work!!!
I don’t even know where to start to even begin to describe how I feel about this issue. I cried, I was happy, devastated, angry, and with the turn of each page I felt it tug at my heart strings. The first time my heart broke was when Carl came in, the look and his face and he says, “Mom?” And says how he can be strong. I couldn’t even hold myself together, I had to take a break from ready a few times because I couldn’t read through the tears. Now trust me, I know we saw this death coming for a couple months now, I know ANYONE can die, my favorites have died time and time again, but it didn’t make this any less easy. Andrea was by far my favorite in the comics, she was so strong and independent, even in death she was telling Rick that he needed to pull himself together! People do depend on him. I’m honestly so happy that Mr. Kirkman constructed her death so beautifully, while it broke my heart into a million pieces to see Rick in the state he is in, it made me so happy he got the CHANCE to say goodbye. As did everyone else. We often see the group together, fighting, split up, doing their own thing, fighting walkers, fighting people, but rarely to we get the chance to KNOW a beloved character is about to die, and have a chance to say what they mean to us, I’m glad everyone got that chance and that in the end Andrea felt loved. The comics, and the characters in them will never be the same without her, and things will get worse before they get better, with how Rick handled Loris death, I can’t even begin to imagine Andrea. Thank you to everyone involved to make this comic happen, but a special thank you to the comic king Robert Kirkman. I appreciate the letter you wrote in the back, losing a character like this IS like losing a family member. I love all you guys, we can pull together as the walking dead family I know we are, and get through this together✊✊✊
This will be Michonne on the show
I’ve been thinking exactly the same thing. The show varies a bit from the comics but this doesn’t look good for TV Michonne! I’m down to Carol and Michonne as my favorites so I’m already sad 🙁
It better not be! Killing TV Michonne by walker bite is unacceptable. Then again, I’m not going to concern myself with maybes right now. Usually the show’s deaths are remixed. This could very well go to Carol, or someone else, to advance the story.
Dear Andrea,
You were truly one of a Kind, from the scared girl struggling to put your sister down, to the sniper in the bell tower. You became “Queen Andrea Grimes” in our eyes. You kept Rick strong, raised Carl into a man, showed Alexandrian’s how to shoot, and chose to save Eugene without hesitation. Yes I spent all last discussion arguing that your wound was from a bullet wound and not a bite, but I now realize I was in denial and just did not want to admit that my favorite character was doomed. Kirkman if you read this I trust you and hope you know what your doing because the pain I feel now is worse then any in the series so far. Andrea the future will forever be a little darker without you apart of it. I like to think that You, Amy, and Dale are all with Glenn and our other fallen friends somewhere in that big Herschel farm in the sky. Goodbye Andrea
An awesome beautiful, sad, rich, and deep issue. One question. Are we gonna see a change in the look of character Ricky grimes? With this being such a turning point issue. After all out war he cut the hair and grew the beard. Just wondering. Thanks so much for this story.
WHY?!?!
such a tough girl dead for nothing?!
and i cant believe the Michonne can live more than Andrea in this fuked world
I m fuking hate the writer @RobertKirkman
What a great issue as everyone is saying. I’m kind of glad she actually died and it wasn’t a trick. Makes the story so much more valid and credible. The part that actually teared me up was when everyone had their hands on each others shoulders to Rick. Did anyone else hear epic music in their heads while Andrea’s speech was in Rick’s head!? Haha.
So, about that last issue.
Whatever happens from Rick and rebuilding Alexandria, I think he has to go after The Whisperers for the Death of Andrea. Its because they unleashed the horde that she died.
This has to flip something in Rick, to become something we’ve never seen.
Does this push him to become this great leader?
Or something worse than Negan?
NOW this is an issue that deserves a special 2nd printing with a special cover to commemerate Andrea, what do you think!!??
I was blown away about the beauty of the issue, even thought death is not beautiful. Andrea got the tribute she so rightly deserved. I didn’t cry, however, I just sat in silence and reflected on the integrity of Kirkman, for letting the story be told the way it needs to be told. Everyone is going to die, eventually. The thing that is so interesting is that this story is complete fiction, not based at all in real life because the truth is, zombies do not exist, so that being said, Kirkman has the ability to make impossible things happen in the story. Like people living forever, or becoming immune to zombie bites, etc. But he doesn’t do that. If you look at the characters for the most part their lives are realistic, they have no super powers. They are strong and have adapted to a hostile world.
That is the beauty of this story. The people are real to us.
So 168 is where they reveal it was all just Rick’s dream from stress, right? Obviously the wound on Andrea’s neck is just from a stray bullet.. there were so many flying around her… right? #Imnotindenialyouare
It wasn’t a hard read for me like some people here, I was in disbelief and I did call my wife telling her, “He killed her.”
As you see Andrea’s words echoing in Rick’s head, Charlie’s art work shows that Rick is going to be a better leader for his people.
I will miss Andrea, and I cant wait to see when this death will be vital in the story.
Thanks to Kirkman for showing how he cares about his characters and for continuing to share his story through good times and rough times as well.
Hm, it was good, yes but I never was an andrea fan, I never liked her, infact. I hated her, she changed, she has grown to my heart a little, but still, because of thefact I don’t like her it wasn’ t my favorite, but surely amazing
This is whitoubt a doubt wholeheartedly my favourite comic (issue) of all time! THE DRAMA. THE DEATH. THE GOODBYES. THE CARL CALLED ME MOM THING WAS SO INSIGHTFUL AND TEARFUL. THE NEGAN JOKE ( TO CHEER US UP IN TIME OF GREAT NEVERENDING DESPAIR) I MUST BE SPEAKING FOR A LOT O PEOPLE WHEN I SAY THIS but I GENUINELY thought that she was going to get out of it SOMEHOW but NO. Because we read the walking dead and no one is coming to stop us there is no hope! ‘WE ARE THE WALKING DEAD’ That is exactly what this issue reminds us of that even a bite still happened with life changing experiences. Untill I read this issue I genuinely forgot that people can still die from walkers as they are a threat that is (by the looks of it) never going to go away and might actually break Rick which would be so interesting to see play out as Rick seems to be IMMORTAL IN THE SHOW BUT HE ISNT AS THIS RRMINDS US OF THAT EXACTLY! best issue ever! Kirkman at his best and yes Negan: it really ‘takes a holy shit someone gonna die here to light a fire under the viewers asses’ it really worked as it always does when an iconic character bites (no pun intended) the dust.
Very sad and a great message from mr kirkman too, I’m a lil worried on what Dwight will do we all saw his face
I’ve only just read the issue, as I live in the UK and it took a while to come through my door, but all I can say is…
Wow. Robert Kirkman has managed to shock, scar and excite me all in one go. TWD is the first comic series I’ve ever read, and has not only encouraged me to read other series but has also lead me to aspire to be a writer myself. Issue #167 is the best issue of a comic I have ever read; not just the best issue of a comic either – it’s better than any episode I’ve seen on TV and any book I’ve read in a very long time.
Andrea has always been my one of my favourite characters, but ever since Issue #127 she’s become one of the strongest and most likeable characters in media. I’ve grown to love her relationship with Rick more than I ever loved Rick and Lori’s, and have also loved her dynamic with Carl. So to see her go… Let’s just say I was crying and leave it at that. I was desperately hoping that the wound on her neck would be a bullet, so to see in the ‘PREVIOUSLY’ text that it was a bite confirmed my worst fears.
So how, you might ask, did the death of one of my favourite characters excite me? I think it excited me because it shows once again that Kirkman is entirely committed to telling the best story possible that he is willing to sacrifice such a popular character for the greater good. In one issue, Kirkman has managed to change the mindset of Rick, strengthen Carl, once again show a better side to Negan and hint at Dwight’s turn to the ‘dark side’. This issue is not just an emotional shredder but also a great set-up for the future.
Oh, and Adlard’s art was incredible.
I look forward to the future, but for now I grieve…
R.I.P ANDREA
Issue 167 was great. Robert Kirkman, you are an amazing writer. But that letter was such a let down. It took me totally out of the story, and cut my emotions. The apologies and the retelling of you writing it made the issue fake for me. Andrea’s death was really well done, it totally made sense in the universe of The Walking Dead, it was brillant, even. No need for apologies! Please, Mr Kirkman, don’t do that again. Wait at least a couple of weeks before you react to your own writing… That being said, thanks for that amazing comic, and for your strong gift as a storyteller.
I had always said if Andrea dies we riot. But damn, if this wasn’t expertly done I don’t know what is. I couldn’t think of a more beautiful and wonderful way than to end with a eulogy on how the story has a mind of its own sometimes. It is a wonderful way to look forward. Its super heartening to see the comments here reflect the joy and love for the character. Here’s to moving forward.
This issue was filled with so many emotions which made it difficult to read. Andrea was probably my favorite character, but I’m glad she went out peaceful. Andrea cared for others and risked her own life for the sake of others. The panels where everybody is saying their goodbyes is showing us that TWD universe is becoming more like a normal society.

That’s what struck me. It was a much more “normal” death. She died at home with her family and friends, and after a mishap controlling a massive herd, not alone and miles from anywhere after being surprised by a lone walker.
Word!
im interested to see where the relationship between rick and negan goes from here. id imagine negan better choose the very next words he says to rick very wisely, seeing as how maggie is also there. in fact, everybody is in alexandria right now, except for Beta. I doubt we have seen the last of him.
Rest in peace Andrea:( I have to say that I cried a bit I am not gonna lie. Also, I loved the way she died because her death was a realistic, grounded, and very emotional with some throwbacks here and there that I liked a lot. She was a beloved character in the franchise for a lot of fans because of her sniper skills and leadership as well. For me, it might sound wrong, but i’m kind of happy that she’s dead.WHY? Because of the fact that Rick is my favorite character in any series or comics, and I kind of like the fact that his story is taking a huge left turn with Andrea’s death. Because without her, maybe Rick can become a more radical leader, just like the good old days of all out war. GOD that story arc was amazing!Andrea’s death is showing us as fans that our favorite characters are real people, that means they might die in a (normal)way and less heroic. That is showing once again that Robert Kirkman is an amazing story teller because of his abilities to tell a story that is gounded in reality, with characters that we can relate to, with amazing art and an amazing focus on character developpement. In short… WE LOVE YOU KIRKMAN!
I’m at a loss for words. Its been 67 issues since the last time I’ve felt this. Fuck……
Dwight’s Glance to Rick!!!!!, also I think the kingdom and the saviours are going to merge and go against Alexandria
Wow that took a long time to get to the part where I can leave a comment which goes to show how much of an impact this wonderful book has on people.
I have honestly never cried because of a book let alone a comic book. Please don’t get me wrong, this has always made me completely invested in what will happen next but this issue made me blubber like my child after they’ve lost any game against me (I am very competitive and have never let them win a game, you need to learn you don’t get everything you want in life).
This was an incredible ending to an amazing story for Andrea. I’m surprised not everyone have realised that the next issue will probably happen at the same time as this issue but from Dwight’s perspective. But I am happy that there are so many people affected in the same way as I have.
The letter at the end was such a classy thing to do Mr Kirkman I lost my shit when I read that I didn’t stop crying for 17 second after (maybe 2 minutes). What a nice touch to end it on you own letter. Had you have had letter hacks I think it wouldn’t have sat right with me. I would have completely been taken away from the story.
Please keep up the good work see you next month.
This issue was so gut-wrenching but so good at the same time. What a brilliant way to exit out a beloved character. I still am waiting for Volume 28’s cover reveal?!
I started reading the comics after Andrea died in the show. I wasn’t a fan of TV Andrea and I have found that her dying in the comic wasn’t as heart breaking for me as Glenn. I still feel a lot of hate towards comic Andrea because of TV Andrea. If anyone has some tips on how to get past this and not be a heartless Comic book Andrea hater please let me know. Great read still!!!!
Shame on you Robert. Sitting on a train and crying while reading.
I feel preposterous but knowing what’s coming I have not yet found myself able to read167 (nor168 etc).
