PREVIOUSLY: The Whisperers may have burned Hilltop to the ground, but Maggie’s forces succeeded in turning away their attackers. Eugene departed for Alexandria with a wagon loaded with ammunition to help turn the war. Meanwhile Sherry keeps the Saviors away from the fray, plotting to move in only once Rick and the Whisperers have worn each other out.
First post!
I overall enjoyed the Whisperer War arc.
My only real gripe… Did they forget after “All out War” that zombies were a problem? It’s been 2 years and other than the walls they don’t seem to have put any kind of work into dealing with walkers. I know that people are busy with other important jobs but it doesn’t mean they couldn’t have dug a trench around the walls with each person digging an hour or so at a time. Plus pits are awesome against a hoard because even if the pit fills up the weight of others stepping on them is going to squish them down and pulverize those in the pit allowing for more to fall in.
Or heck they look to have the tech to put up a simple system of posts with electric spinner motors attached to 5 foot lengths of chain around the perimeters….Once up to speed the kinetic damage would be quite effective (for a while)
Or what about a hand cranked air raid siren… it would be so loud the dead would be drawn away towards them.
Anyways I’m just saying in some ways they got lazy is all.
I am new here and you scare me a great deal with your end of the world dealing with walker stuff/knowledge. Sorry Kirkman but at the end of the world I am following lothos_zero….. straight down to the local DIY store for supplies to build the ultimate Anti-Walker Home Protection pack.
This issue was underwhelming, even more than the end of All Out War. At least Andrea is alive 😀
For the moment…
i loved the scene with carl and lydia 🙂 they’re so cute
Damn! Pretty much the “calm after the storm and before the even bigger storm” issue. It looks like Negan has finished his life chapter, finally buried his wife and is ready for the next round. The next three issues will definitely bring a lot of victims, which have been expected in this story arc. I am a bit sad, as I expected Negan vs Beta rematch, but also happy, that Beta lives and we will hopefully get to know him better. Beta can now literally sit back and watch, but I’m still worried about this guy lurking in the shadows – it looks like his whole group was erased and only he and three other guys survived. That’s certainly not much, but also a good way how to infiltrate between Hilltop-Kingdom mix. Looking forward to this.
And Negan? I think he’s not going anywhere. I hope that Sherry will regret the moment she decided to plot against Rick. Would be fun if he just somehow become the lader of Saviors.

I just don’t understand how there is only Beta and 3 other guys, when we saw hundreds of Whisperers back when Alpha took Carl to ONE of their camps. Barely any Whisperers died during this entire arc alongside minor nameless characters but if we’re expected to believe there are only 4 whisperers left, I’m not buying that…
You are right, I guess, I checked #161 and only two Whisperers were pulling Beta back, whereas in #162, he had three of them. But still, I think that a lot of them were killed in the first battle with Dwight, then during the split, and the rest fell during the Hilltop siege.
Can the next arc be called The Screaming Wars?
Cuz these whispers really didn’t do it for me :/
I also feel a bit underwhelmed… Although thinking about the hilltop, they are really screwed… I know Alexandria is going to fall but I was definitely hoping that in the arc, not after… And the last line from beta just seemed like clarifying “this arc ends here…” I mean, did he win? Did he loose? He just threw everything he had to Alexandria? Gosh, now I must keep reading the next issue, I felt some closure was missing… But still, I’ll be there on Feb 1.
I think this issue was a wonderful conclusion to such a suspenseful conflict filled with terrorism being struck against all of our communities. And due to all the calm and closure-ridden issues, I know a HUGE death is coming up soon and somebody important WILL be dying. I have no doubt. I’m pumped for where The Walking Dead is headed next because it seems like the world is just getting bigger and bigger and we’re finding out more and more about each community as adversity seems to be unfolding at a rapid rate. I’ve never been so emotionally invested into a story like I am with The Walking Dead.
It gave me chills! It’s nice to see the comic steer it towards the dead again (I know, they’ve always been there but they’ve always felt like background characters rather than any kind of real threat).
What would be nice to see is the destruction of everything. Some serious loses and only a handful of people in all the colonies surviving the impending onslaught. This would tie in nicely to the woman Eugene’s been speaking to, leaving Rick (if he survives) and co to go on the road to find their colony.
Negan’s story feels like it’s come to an end. I’m sure they can do something interesting with him, but you got me what that could be. Maybe when the Saviours attack Alexander it will land on Negan to put them back in line, maybe it ends up being the death of him. With Lucille gone I imagine the only way he can go now is by some kind of altruistic sacrifice.
Really good point about the dead being a threat again. They have been pedestrian. I liked the arc over all. Here’s my complete thoughts:http://consumereviewrepeat.com/2017/01/04/the-walking-dead-162-review/
I’ve heard of a Shotgun wedding, but I’ve never heard of a Baseball Bat funeral .-.
I love Negan so much more after this issue. I knew Lucille emobodied his wife. It was a sweet tribute.
Overall this didn’t seem like a conclusion to the whisperer war. Beta is still alive. There was no clear win, and Rick is in trouble.
However, this episode was a great build up. Next issue is going to be CRAZY. Can’t wait.
At first I didn’t want Rick to die. I have a feeling he will. I want Negan to live. Especially if he has truly changed. I have a bad feeling after next issue both Andrea and Rick are goners.
Again… the war isn’t over until Beta is dead. But next issue is going to be insane.
Negan! I feel like I just read the completion of his story arc. Or could it be another beginning for a new man? I’m excited to find out. You have added so much dimension to his character.
I loved this issue. I wasn’t disappointed at all. Although it didn’t wrap things up in this arc, it will ensure lots of craziness for the next!
It feels so fucking weird to have my favorite character in a story be the one that killed one of my other favorite characters (Glenn). I hated him so much when he was introduced but he has continuously shown that he’s really not an evil person, just doing what he thought was the best way of surviving- just like Rick’s group.
I really thought Negan was gonna die this issue. I’m extremely excited that he survived this war! After reading this issue, I feel like there’s so much more story to be told with Negan. I look forward to the next few issues following the Whisperer War!
I loved the images of the “sea” of the dead overwhelming the sleepy streets of the quiet town outside of the ASZ. Charlies art is always so impressive. Very ominous. Im genuinely afraid for our group again. Rick is still such an asset but I find myself worrying about him specifically. My favorite part of this arc has to be Negans story, such an amazing character. We were introduced to Negan in a situatuon where we were forced to hate him, and slowly almost everything he has done since has slowly become somone we can like, a grey character that we cab actually love. Im glad he got this moment to put Lucille to rest. It reall humanized him even more. I just worry that this idea doesnt bode well for him. Honestly, if he were to end his story with a heroic sacrifice would be an excellent conclusion for his character. Cany wait to see how we make it out of this one. Also excited to see how Sherrys saviors play into this, and even more excited to see how Eugenes new friends play into this new world. Great writing as per usual, thanks.
I definitely enjoyed this issue. I know previous comments have said that it was a little bit of a let down, but I feel it was well played to go through that issue to get down to the final “oh shit” moment. Of course that moment is when we see an ocean of walkers headed straight towards Alexandria, and it was such a well illustrated moment. I do feel the next issue will be a huge tragedy, and of course no one is safe at this point. We will all be rooting for our favorite characters, but the war is far from over. I am very happy Negan finally got to make peace with Lucille. After reading “Here’s Negan” we know that he never had the chance to say goodbye, but opening up this issue to Negan making his peace was such a sigh of relief and I’m sure it’s a huge weight off his shoulders. It’s always refreshing to see the other side of Negan, because he’s not an evil person he has just done things to survive just like anyone in this world just as Carl made perfectly clear this issue to Lydia. I am really looking forward to next months issue, so I can get some closure to this nail biting war!
Well as this was the final part of the Whisperers War it more seemed it was what Dwight thought would be the end. And boy was he wrong!
Although I’m a little disappointed that this wasn’t a bloodbath issue for the conclusion, I’m overall happy with what kirkman is doing here, it felt weird to me that there was only one more issue left of the war after issue 161, but now it all makes sense, and means that we’re going to be getting a lot more than we expected. I feel like kirkman has a chance to rival the “OH SHIT” factor of volume 8 (the governors attack on the prison) in this next volume, Vol. 28. Super excited for February!!
This is so scary, finally Alpha’s threat is here. This war will never be over
I think Rick made a huge error in how he lead his men. Sending his troops out to war without informing them of what to expect. The army has been training for months yet this is the 1st time The Sea is mentioned. The first scene in ANB shows us they devised away to control a herd. Yet no horses or herd instructions were given heading into War.
I love the way this Arc is playing out and understand the missing information was needed for drama. Just pointing out a huge flaw in the story.
I was really happy with how the arc ended. Rather than a major death, there was some great character development with Carl, Rick, and Negan. See my complete thoughts herehttp://consumereviewrepeat.com/2017/01/04/the-walking-dead-162-review/

Good thing i watched a recap video about this issue….sounds like a dissapointment ?. Oh spoiler alert! nothing happens! This whole conflict was fun at first but now i don’t know. Robert you gotta stop with the broken promises.
You should read it and form your own opinion as I’m sure you’d think differently. A lot of recaps, reviewers bait people with negative reviews over gushing over a comic, movie etc as it will never gets the views they want if they praise it. Sad but true.
The whole point of the Whisperer War was that it was leading up to something, and now we know what. It is way better than just doing some over glorified deaths. Honestly the reveal at the end gave me goosebumps. Looking forward to seeing the Dead being a major threat again.
I agree with that point, the dead are the threat again, back to basics! Cool! At least for these 2 issues the dead call the shots again!
Not gonna lie, I’m disappointed.
Look. I have NEVER been one of those people that demand a major character death to keep things interesting. But this issue was really underwhelming. I guess maybe it’s because I actually sort of try and trust Kirkman? Look, I know the dude is a troll and I’ve always had a pretty easy time telling when he’s being sarcastic. But my problem is when he hypes these issues up to the radical points because in those moments I don’t think he’s joking. I think he’s legitimately excited about what’s coming. But back when this war first started and we had that 16 panel shot of all the important characters in TWD he said all of those characters would lead radically different lives by the end of this war. Uh… Gabriel died, I guess? That’s pretty radically different? Otherwise, who was legitimately affected? Rick is Rick. Andrea is Andrea. Magna is still Magna. Eugene is Eugene. I guess maybe Lydia would live a dramatically different life? But she was already with our gang before the war. So where are these radical changes? Why did Kirkman tease about Beta’s face and that reveal being set up if he’s (seemingly) just going to disappear in the background? Where is this radical change? When the Hilltop gets rebuilt it’s like this whole thing would have never happened. Except I guess Adlard won’t have to worry about drawing Father Gabriel in the background from time to time?
Also, someone finally makes a point of calling out the fucked up timeline of Carl’s inconsistent age and Kirkman just totally blows it off by going “it’s been more than two years, there.” Well, that would be great if we didn’t have Hershel Jr. around who is clearly 2-3 maximum. If they’d thought about it for a little bit and took the time to reassess the timeline they could have just Hershel about 5 years old in appearance and way less complaints would occur about Carl’s sudden age discrepancy.
And that tease ending wasn’t exactly the greatest. It’s imposing, sure, but it doesn’t really make me feel like the Whisperers are over so why even consider this the end of this arc?
I don’t need a bloodbath. And for anyone thinking one is coming up soon, I’d say brace for disappointment. People have said that for awhile now about each new “big” issue. Last time we got a bloodbath was #144 and it was a bunch of named redshirts I barely even remember so you can almost skip that one. I don’t need a slaughter. But I need to feel that things are changing. Something about the events happening currently don’t make me feel their impact.
I think the big change will be the destruction of Alexander. I reckon they’ll have to up and abandon their home because of the coming walkers and need to find refuge somewhere else. That’s what I think it means by being legitimately excited. I feel ever since they’ve settled and colonised it’s been a bit dull but brining the dead back in force is definitely going to make things interesting again. Think of the possibilities: The population will die off, people will start starving, more people will turn again, people will not be freely roaming around and everyone will be claustrophobic. I get why there’s negativity about it but honestly I think it’s a great thing. Better than just killing them off and introducing yet another villain of the week. I like to think the Whisperers will still be lurking around, with Beta lurking in the shadows waiting to take revenge on Negan.
But see, my problem is that’s speculation. Kirkman didn’t act like “big change” was coming after the Whisperer War. He acted like it was coming during the war. It didn’t. This wave is huge. Bigger than anything Alexandria is faced. But I bet Alexandria will still be there when it’s over. There’s always speculation that “in this issue so and so will die” or “this big thing will happen” and while I wouldn’t want these comics to become predictable, this speculation is almost never proven true.
If Alexandria has to be abandoned and we see the walkers become a massive threat again (at least for a little while) that would be great. But that *would* be great. We haven’t seen that yet. We don’ know if it will really play out that way.
Yeah, I agree with you man! Too much hype, little payoff!
I liked this issue since the ending was not the typical where the good guys win and conquer and the bad ones are defeated and killed, no, this was another thing, and I liked that point of view of Kirkman, this is another world plagued by the undead!
I loved this kind of ending where no one wins!
I would had loved it even better if Beta would have taken off his mask at the end, what is the mistery with this character? I agree that it was cool they did not kill him yet! Now he will retreat and watch as the horde destroys Alexandria! Sitting out to attack later! For me, Alexandria is gone, there is no way it will survive this one, no way man, even with Eugene’s ammo, it wont be enough. When Rick said, they roar like an ocean, man, this is something! My theory is there will be a bunch of minor characters deaths, for example: Dante, Saddiq, William, Aaron, among others. Rick, Carl, Andrea, Maggie, Hershel, Lydia, Sophia, Michonne, will survive.
Well, for me the destruction of the Hilltop and the impending destruction of Alexandria (walkers will eat all animals, destroy the crops, break into buildings…) is a big change. Yes, Saviors destroyed Alexandria before, but this will be different and a big wound for everybody’s morale – seeing that everything is gone, and a lot of good and useful people will die.
Also, people say that nobody died. I disagree, even though it were only unknown characters, they died, and Whisperers had a huge losses.
I like what’s coming next – walkers storming Alexandria, then Hilltop and Kingdom residents maybe will try to lure walkers out. Then, Saviors will ambush them… And what is Beta going to do in the meantime?
Yeah. But those “lots of people” don’t really matter to an audience. They have no names or faces. When people say no one died they mean no one of any real significance to the experience of reading TWD died. 5 redshirts or a million… If we don’t know them their weight isn’t truly felt.
I’m hoping you’re right in assuming the Hilltop being burned will have a long lasting impact but I think they’ll just rebuild like Alexandria and everything will be peachy.
Fun fact: Redshirts aren’t actually people. They are just androids trans-dimensionally warped from the Aliens universe to the Star Trek Universe (and I guess now to TWD universe). Quite a journey to just have your head cut off and put on a spike…
Well I should have known better – I totally thought we were going to see Beta reveal himself by taking off his walker mask. Or, I thought there was going to be a Negan vs. Beta showdown. Or, I thought Lydia was going to go back and rejoin the Whisperers. Or, I thought… I love how each issue ending keeps me guessing. And I love how I’m always totally wrong. I’m on the edge of my seat.
Two rapid shots for a herd.
Three rapid shots for The Saviors.
PKOW!
(only one shot!)
Andrea is a goner!
First death of the herd!
I guess you don’t read the comic. Andrea and Rick don’t die. They said it enough times, it must be true.
I know, I know they said that, and I realized later that Andrea welcomed Michonne to Alexandria after that shot, so, it was not her who shot!
If I had a dollar for every Walker in this issue, I’d have enough money to buy my own signed 162.
I I were these guys, I would give the issue to you man!
Great comment dude! Really cool!
Even better, if I had a dime for each walker in this comic, I’d be able to buy a mint condition issue number one!
Such a weird feeling after reading the issue I was stuck between feeling slightly underwhelmed but full of joyous excitement at the same time. Only a the Germans would be able to describe it.
Kirkman knows how to leave you excited for the next issue. Thank god February has two coming out.
Absolutely brilliant art by Charlie with the ocean of walkers.
.. and what a beautiful moment by Negan added with a little ‘fucking your brains out’ just to remind you who it is.
By actually saying goodbye to his wife does this mean he has lost the thing now that kept him alive. This is what may have kept him strong enough, the fact that he hadn’t said goodbye and he was not going to let himself die until he got too. Could leave a man weak.
My favourite line was Rick to Dwight “Did you say hundreds?”
We all knew what was going to hit the fan next
ok
What if…
1. Rick, Dwight, William and his men, try a last-ditch effort out of desperation seeing the horde closing in, and go ahead and steer it away using horses and horns like we saw at The New Beginning Issue. That would be the first move they will try to avoid direct impact with this ocean of walkers! Problem is, this maneuver needs planning and timing, and it looks like they dont have any of it at the moment. So, they will fail and some men will die.
2. Rick, Dwight, William, Andrea, Maggia et al, try to mow the horde down using Eugene’s ammo. I guess that could work for a moment, keep the horde at bay for a while, meanwhile they plan an exit from Alexandria seeing that tsunami coming toward them. Nobody dies and they have time to exit. Good plan.
3. After Rick has tried in vain to avoid this tsunami of walkers, he decides it is time to run for it and leave Alexandria behind seeing there is no chance to fight for it like No Way Out. ASZ is overrun , destroyed and brought to pieces. This will obviously leave Alexandrians devastated both physically and psicologically, and very vulnerable to do some crazy shit like going Rambo against the tsunami and getting killed. This is my most probably scenario, for me, I think most people will agree.
4. Rick et al run for their lives toward The Hilltop, not knowing it was burned to the ground, meaning another community destroyed and another psycological blow, plus the thinkig that Maggie, Carl, Sophia, Hershel are dead as well, not knowing they survived the fire.
5. Seeing all this, Rick and survivors decide to visit The Kingdome as a final effort to find a safe haven, realizing Maggie , Carl, Hershel, Sophia, Lydia and others are there, boosting up the mood and taking advantage of the moment to resolute to build everything again.
6. Being there, Eugene tells Rick about this group in Ohio, and after a discussion with Maggie, Andrea, Michonne , Dwight, they decide to push their luck and find out about these people over there, hitting the road or going by horse until there.
7. These people in Ohio are some kind of organized community, not merely survivors, some kind of medical facility protected with some cutting-edge barriers that kills at the touch, where doctors work for a cure or maybe doctors work to make experiments on walkers, or maybe just doctors trying to reestablish civilization, kind of. Could be… I love this idea, to see this whole new group living in a futuristic world prepared in case of an apocalyptic event and these smart guys working on experiments everywhere in these booths, using high technology, wow, I would love to see this, something brand new and hopeful in this gloomy and dire world.
8. I was leaving Negan outside of the box, my guess is that if they have kept him alive for so long is because we will see much more of Negan, do not see him dying anytime soon, I think this new Negan will help Rick a lot from now on, using his experience as former leader. I hope Kirkman thinks the same, please do not kill him!
9. The saviors. Seeing the cover of issue 165, it looks like they show up just after something big happens, now led by Sherry, whom will look for revenge against Negan most probably. The point is, the saviors will arrive where, Alexandria is gone, The Hilltop is burned out, that leaves only The Kingdom, and from this point on, it is just guesswork, will they just show up to get Negan? will they try to take over? will they try to get revenge from all out war? it is anybody’s guess. But certainly, they will make noise wherever they go, they are rested, well-equipped, well-trained, well-eaten, so, whatever they do, it will be of consideration.
Surely if the survivors shot the initial lines of walkers this would prevent their progress towards them?
Can walkers climb over layers of bodies? I thought not. They have enough ammo to kill the first several thousand at their doorstep, wouldn’t this provide a barrier preventing their forward momentum?
Just a thought.
Maybe time for Rick and the others to all don the Whisperer skin to survive the hoard and re-direct and leave Alexandria with the dead?
Dwight knows the skin wearing will work. In doing so does this mean that The Whisperers won the war as they all now will have to live like animals?
I thought this was a pretty b’dass conclusion. When Rick started freaking out about the sea of walkers? Pretty sweet. Then Beta and his three guys just hang back and let the walkers do what they want them to do. My only problems are that there isn’t enough Jesus and Negan. Now every part with Negan in it is my favorite. When he got Lucille back I was losing it. “This is my Excalibur! My flashing Invincibility Star! My can of Motherf*cking Spinach! You are f*cking f*cked, Jolly Green!” Best line in all of TWD. And the scene where he buried Lucille was probably my favorite scene in the new issue. Really good issue. Hype for #163.
I’m not dissapointed with this issue. I love that not all the warfare is the same. The group is in the conflict with someone and they fight until one side is defeated or killed. But this time the villan used the walkers to finish the job. The Whisperers are different from any other bad guys, they don’t want anything from the Survivors, they just spread destruction and death. I fear for Andrea so much!
“I love that not all the warfare is the same.”
The Alexandrians did the same exact thing to the Saviors that the Whisperers did to them now. They just didn’t have THOUSANDS of walkers at their disposal. And no one significant died in AOW either. So it really didn’t feel all that different.
Walking Dead 163 – the one where everyone gets a new name.
Rick Grimes – Beardy McOneHand
Negan – Grumpy McNoBat
Carl Grimes – Horny McOneEye
Please feel free to contribute to this nonsense
Eugene- Nerdy McNoDoze
A good episode. I’m glad nobody died but equally, having been so fearful of deaths, there is an element of anti-climax that everyone (so far) has got through unscathed especially since the cliffhanger was basically spoiled by the previews.
However, ultimately, I think it’s really important that the comic builds up a range of characters. The early days had lots of deaths but Glenn was the last death who felt “major” because he had been in the book since, near enough, the beginning. Ezekiel was a major player but we’d only known him a few years while Gabriel and Rosita had been with the book longer but had been underused.
However, now we have a large number of characters who would feel like significant deaths. I do feel like they’ve been telegraphing the possibility of Eugene’s death pretty heavily — hope not though, if only because it would be a shame for none of the Texas trio to make it.
Overall, I liked the issue even though it was a prelude when I expected a climax. Some nice scenes with the Hilltop although I wish we’d met William before the start of this arc. Lydia doesn’t do much for me as a character but this arc has been great for her. Sophia still needs to be much more central.
The best scene was undoubtedly Negan. Such a great character and he gets ever more complex.
I also really liked Rick and by throwing doubts on Rick’s real as opposed to actual age, it throws some wiggle room into Carl’s actual age. Maybe he and Rick both helped themselves to an extra couple of years along the way.
I’ll miss the 16-panel grid and it would have felt like a very slight issue without it due to the three double-page splashes. The last two were perfect and incredible but I did feel like the first didn’t really give us any new information. I’d love to have seen a few panels for Sophia, Earl, Aaron, Harlan… any of the rest really.
What’s interesting is what they do next. I reckon Eugene may have saved them. With this much ammo, if they can get Andrea to the tower and keep her supplied with food and water, I can see her taking down the majority of the herd over the space of a few weeks. And I wouldn’t be surprised if more of the gang end up wearing walker skins before the danger passes.
Thank goodness next month has two issues (although I wish they’d do this in the 5-Wednesday months — those 5-week waits are a killer).
I loved the finally of the Whisperer War my main highlight was the character development with Negan. When he burried Lucille he was talking about fucking your brains out and in but why did he name a bat after you. It explains why he was so pissed when she broke because maybe it was a gift from his wife or daughter. Maybe that’s the only thing he had left from one of them. Overall I hope to see more details from Negans past so I’m still sucked into The Walking Dead
Hey Neofan you should read the Here’s Negan back story that is currently serialised in Image+, it wasn’t a gift and they just have shown Negan first pick up the baseball bat.
I hope negan isn’t still waiting outside of the gate with what the last page showed
Dwight – Pissy McBurnFace
Jesus – Happy McManBun
Dante’- Saddy McFriendZoned
The war is over but the carnage has just begun!!! The only money I don’t spend on heroin is spent on these comics. My life is the Walking Dead!!! Hehehe.
Yep I like the refocus on the dead as the threat. Just when I was going to suggest the title be changed to The Walking Still Alive Folks or The Walking Good, Bad and the Ugly.
I do agree with some of the comments that this issue was sort of a let down after all the hype. But I am hoping that it was used as a set up for major character losses. Being the blood thirsty fiend I have become since reading TWD series, I would love to see some of the old timers get it.
What about Oceanside? Why don’t they go there? At least Michonne has met some of the inhabitants and probably seen their camp. Unless I am missing something, and please let me know if I am in a nice way, it would be safer to go their then off to Eugene’s pal’s camp since we don’t really know what the heck it is or if it really exists in the first place.
On the walker cover, dead center ( no pun intended) the little guy with the dark hair reminded me of a slightly bigger Herschel or a smaller Carl. I sincerely hope that didn’t mean anything!
This has been a great issue, and in a different way than I predicted. It’s very tense, and it uses that feeling to make an exciting issue. Each page make me think that the Whisperers were going to storm Alexandria, but I neglected to realize that this isn’t their nature, and it shows in their trump move at the end. Holding off, making the survivors feel secure, until they release their biggest weapon, the absurdly large herd of zombies. I like the idea of Rick being somewhat incompetent, and having the massive oversight of neglecting the massive herd, obviously preoccupied about the massacre.
But there is a couple of gripes that I have with this, especially as escape will have to happen. My first gripe is how, even when one of the contributing communities goes rogue, they neglect to mention migrating to Oceanside, even though, that will be essential for that amount of people moving. But I think that could alternatively be a good thing, in terms of narrative. I think this is the end times for the community system, and we will go back to the more barbaric times, or perhaps restart in the new setting of Ohio. But this last part of the Whisperer war has set the stage for the devastating aftermath, and for the possible unexpected return of Beta and the other Whisperers. One thing is nearly certain though, Alexandria is fucked.
A sea of walkers versus a cart of bullets. Excellent foreshadowing of possibilities. Kind of reminds me of the great frontier with the herding of cattle. We also have an epic crossroad with Negan. The only sanity in his insane mind shattered on the back of Beta. I feel the death of Negan.
