Is Rick about to unleash a storm named Negan?! Is he that desperate? It’s the issue before the massive 150th! I wonder if we have anything cool planned for that…
This is YOUR post! Use it to discuss issue #149 of The Walking Dead, which comes out mere HOURS from now! Plop yer best in the comment section below and Johnny Manziel—I mean ODell—and I will read ’em and pick a big winner! Up for grabs: A Robert Kirkman-signed copy of this very issue! Shocking!
PREVIOUSLY IN THE WALKING DEAD: When the most recent town hall meeting turns violent, Rick has come to the end of his rope in what to do about the Whisperers. Leaving only one person left for him to talk to: the motherf**ker named Negan.
I’ll return once the issue drops but let me just say, MOST FAVORITE cover ever!! I am way to excited to picked this beast up!! I’ll be back….
I’m waiting up until the clock strikes 12 so I can say THE WALKING DEAD ISSUE 149 COMES OUT TODAY!! Then I’m going out to get this f**king motherf**ker!! Just by that smile on Negan’s face I know we’re in for one hell of a ride these next issues..
This issue was pretty awesome! I loved the interaction between Dwight and Laura (But who the hell is Diane?! Don’t ya mean Sherry??) and the VERY ending with Dwight and LUCILLE! If you noticed, the shadow looked a lot like it could’ve been Negan’s and it made me think if Dwight is the new Negan. Probably not, but whatever.
Speaking of Negan, his phrases are still GOLD. “Nestle in below me so I can baby bird my wisdom into that pretty mouth of yours” Can’t wait for Issue #150 AND JDM’s portrayal as this cool motherfucker!
I hope my good grammar allows me eligibility for win the contest. Haha.
Negan now has an entry inside of Rick’s mind, and that is not a good thing. I think that what will happen is that the communities will become the military that Rick spoke of with Eugene at the end of the issue, and that no one will be able to control it…until a psycho with a penchant for cursing and babytalk finds a way out of his basement jail and leads them to victory (?) over the Whisperers.
Also, who is going to be chosen for that military (if Rick is telling the truth). Will it be those rednecks who visited the home of another character who is on the verge of losing it within his home? Will it be Eugene and his CB skills? What about Dwight and the old barb-wired Lucille?
Very hard to say…
Rick is facing choices that any good leader knows they must face and he will be in for some very difficult and disturbing days ahead.
And Dwight should just lighten the hell up, go back to that woman who called his ex a “cunt” and get over whatever emotional disturbance still lives in his head.
Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God….
Overload… Lucille… Dwight…. Negan helping Rick…. Military… Townspeople…. Angry… Revenge… murder?
Ahhhhhh! I can’t take this!!!!
But holy hell…. this was the setup of all setup issues and I absolutely loved it! I am literally scared. Scared for Rick. Scared for Andrea. Scared for Carl. Scared for everyone including my own fragile feelings!!!
I’m sure I have spoilers in here so … *SPOILER ALERT* So… we thought Lydia was safe at Hilltop, huh? Looks like even Maggie is in hiding from their people. May be too little too late there, Rick. You gonna train all those people how to shoot guns like you trained Ron in the show? Dwight! You fuck! I was under the impression that the saviors pretty much hated Negan … but … to find out they would prefer things the way he had them … A LOT of foreshadowing and hype here. So many places this can go. I can’t wait.
Seeing Lucille at the end was like whenever I see my ex wife, a mixture of hatred and dread, with a hint of fear and loathing…..
The scariest part of the entire issue is that Dwight is the only one keeping order in Sanctuary and he is leaving!
Rick will go to war against the Whisperers and in the meantime Sanctuary will march against Alexandria and free Negan.
Oh shit! Negan’s advice was fascinating. Intelligent and had a solid point all while being delivered in Negan’s uh… “unique” way of speaking.
“This earn me anything? A day out? Walk in the park? Special meal?
So that’s it?! Wam-Bam thank you, Negan?! I don’t even get a sad eye-contactless hand job?!”
That said, I love the military idea. Those interested in fighting will join up, train, become an asset to the community, all while providing exactly as Negan said: security. It’s a peace of mind and it’s just something useful to have.
On note of Carl. “Why are you so good?” made my heart happy… but her telling him he’s better than his Dad has me worried. She’s feeding his ego. I don’t think she’s intentionally manipulating him but I’m not sure she’s capable of a healthy attachment after all the damage she’s sustained mentally in her time with the Whisperers. In the real world someone like her would go to therapy and get “fixed up” but there’s no room or time in this world. However, I loved him saying what he did about his father and how he wants everyone to look up to him like that too. Big dreams.
Oh, and on another note about #150. That’s a lot of blood on the cover. This is my prediction: These people are going to stage their little coup… and Rick is going to remind motherfuckers why he’s in charge. People want to think of him as just a helpless old man now with his walking cane and prosthetic but he survived for a couple years outside the safety of the Alexandria Safe-Zone and then lived through all the bullshit after. They’re gonna throw their little fling then Rick is gonna remind people that just because he has a walking can and one hand doesn’t mean he’s someone you want to fuck with.
Issue #115 all over again? With the “army” of people, it reminds me of Rick and Co. against Negan… *sigh* Good times
And to think we were worried about how AMC were going to cope with Negan saying f**k once or twice an episode. Just wait until someone from the network sees Laura.
Looks like the grand plan is starting to me. Hubris is always a destructive element for characters and Rick seems to have bought right into Negan’s ego stroking. This hits the nail on the head even more that Negan isn’t a complete villain but someone who is truly willing to make really dark choices for a greater good. Granted he does usually benefit from said choices but I digress.
I completely feel that the events that took place in that cell in this issue will link in with the play a few issues back where Negan didn’t escape even with an open cell. If I had to place money here I’d be certain that Negan’s plan is to get Rick to go out and do the dirty work with hopes of not making it back. He knows Rick would take his best people to “War” and leave the weaker ones behind. All he would need to do then is pick up the pieces and “lie” about Rick being a Martyr. Bending the truth a bit works much better than a blatant lie. All about control…something he wished would have fallen into his lap; and it did in such a nice way as well as Rick’s.
As for the saviors, I believe that the final scene will be the wake up call that Dwight needed to get back on task. He as much as anyone knows how rough they all truly had it and I am sure he can see exactly what would happen if he left. As others have stated, they would revolt, destroy Alexandrian, and free Negan so they could go back to their safety even if it is not the best life possible. It’s what they know and humans fear change so very much.
Rick,be careful….the townspeople are plotting!
Omg!!! Dwight in the end! What is he going to do? What if he frees Negan and kills him using Lucille?!! Or betrays Rick and tries to kill him but unsuccessfully Rick kills Dwight! So many questions!! I love this comic book!
Alright, so here’s how I see things playing out. (Watered down hypothesis) Rick tries to lead the army with all 4 colonies, but the Saviors don’t trust him so they’re still desperately looking for a leader since Dwight’s a chicken shit. Whos the go to leader for their squad leader? Fuck fucking Negan. They’ll find a way to get him out. Ricks NEVER going to let him out but Kirman is eager as a giddy highschool girl to get him out.
Wow wow f**k wow. All I can say. “The Devil on Your Shoulder”, is right. The way Negan’s hand is on Rick’s shoulder, just as if ‘the devil’ was tempting him. He’s definitely having influence over Rick. Negan’s colorful language is back, Dwight is back, and Lucille is motherf**king back.
An awesome story to go with this amazing cover, I was worried the Rick & Negan scenario was being rushed but it ended up being perfect … also someone at Skybound PLEASE remind your boss that Dwights ex is Sherry… not Diane!! Haha, That shit had me scratching my head for 20 minutes!!! HAHA!! Okay, I am lying, I am still confused as hell, anyway, AWESOME ISSUE!!!
Absolutely incredible issue! The idea of Rick being so backed up against the wall that he seeks the counsel of Negan is a beautiful touch to the comics, highlighting just how powerless the group feels in the face of the Whisperers.
But the craziest part is where I think this all is going. Between the talks of Dwight wanting out, no one wanting to lead, them not trusting Rick, and that some would go so far as to potentially seek out Negan to put him back in charge – PLUS the title of issue #150 – I can’t help but think Dwight is intending to go to Alexandria and demand for the release of Negan so that he can rule the Saviors again, allowing Dwight to go after Diane and absolving him of his duty to be leader.
Even if I’m wrong, the one thing I’m certain of is that I’ll be nearly knocking down the doors to get to issue #150 when it comes out next month!
Wow what an issue…
Not sure if I get Dwight’s motivations here or the fact the Saviours want Negan back, whole thing feels a bit contrived to fit into the issue 150 frame…
Great issue & cover! Really liked the conversation with Rick & Negan. Still trying to figure out what Dwight is up to. And who’s Diana? Seemed like they were talking about Sherry. Looking forward to 150!!!!
WHO’S DIANA (abraham voice)
Anyone notice the dynamic that is Rick/Negan. . They literally are the same person but one is the hero and one is the villian. They both have that characteristic to be great leaders too – Rick is more democratic where Negan is more Dictator like.
Negan’s rule is still missed by the Saviors, that much is true. Negan even gets into why he lost the ‘war’ was becuse is no.1 Dwight was pushed too far away. Flash forward to where Dwight realizes the ‘heavy lies the crown’ issue of him being the leader of the saviors and he can’t deal with it, so what to do. . . . Grab Lucille 😉
After thinking on it for a bit it occurred to me. Rick says he will never let Negan out. What if it’s Rick who has an arrangement with Dwight to free Negan. Rick wants Negan free, but Rick can’t directly be responsible for letting him out for obvious reasons… Enter manipulative Rick
Rick and Negan, Batman and Joker. Both hero and villian needs each other to become who they actually are. Dwight is Two-Face (literally) with one side being a person who is weak can’t be under pressure with being a leader and the other side of him bringing out Lucille to become the monster he needs to be. As Negan would say, “Let the slaughter begin!” Issue 150 can’t get here soon enough!
i like this. this is a great comparison
There’s nothing to discuss…Lucille is back
I loved the discussion between Rick and Negan. Negan is so smart when he said that people seek security instead of vengeance. But I think that the lying part will backfire on Rick and he will make an army and really go to war because he won’t control it. What worries me here is the hoard of roamers because if war happens Alpha will let them out and lead them to the safe zones.
I lov Dwight to dead but he is just running away from his problems. By what he talked with Diane maybe the new leader will turn against Alexandria and free Negan. Seeing Negan back in action would be great. What if the Whisperers and the Saviors join forces? Or is Negan “rehabilitated” enough? I seriously doubt it…
I loved this issue and I can’t wait for 150. I am sure it will be big!
Dwight is a fucking pussy
Dwight was amazing in this issue! And you guys meant Sherry instead of Dianne (or whatever it was) right? Loving Carl still, wanna see more Jesus. 🙂
My pug puppy, Lilly, started squeeling with me when Dwight brought Lucille out of the dust, then she got all posses at me and wouldn’t talk to me :s but hey! Negan isn’t her daddy anymore!
They way they portrayed Dwight looking at Lucille, I’m left feeling like he can’t handle the position he is in. My theory is that Dwight will approach negan with a decision. I’ll will free you and you can regain you title as leader of the saviours…. If you let me off the hook for screwing you and sherry/Dianne whoever she may be. Love this shit need more than one issue a month fellas. #neganforpresident2016 I’d fucking vote for that mother fucker.
WOW. This was an amazing issue, and provided some of my favorite Negan lines to date, such as “Nestle in and let me baby-bird my wisdom into that pretty mouth of yours” and even better his request for a “sad, eye-contactless hand job”. I hope that this is Negan’s role going forward, an advisor of sorts, but eventually I hope he will be let out. It will have to be a long process of gaining Rick’s trust. One person I am totally unsure of at this point is Eugine. He seems really unstable, and up until this issue I thought he would be the one to lead a riot against Rick. Now that he’s heard about Rick’s ‘military’ (I’m not sure if it’s bullshit or not yet) he seemed to be relatively happy with that, although it could just be a ruse. I just hope he doesn’t die in 150. Speaking of 150, I think that the only characters that are for sure safe from anything happening are Andrea, Carl, and Lydia. I say this because almost everyone, including the people who looked like they were going to start a riot in this issue, is currently in Alexandria. Other than that, I have no idea what will happen.
had to get in on this. really dope issue. so much depth and set up for the future. SO MANY QUESTIONS. elephant in the room: Negan and Rick. first off, let me say i am loving Negan in the cell. it is basically grounding him and giving us an opportunity to see the man behind the mask (so to speak). every interaction with him since the time jump has been deep and gives us more insight into his persona. my favorite being the interaction between him and rick before this, when his cell was left open. shouts out to Adlard for putting that emotion in Negan’s expressions, and Kirkman for his words. but i digress. We saw some more genuine Negan and got to pick his brain as a leader this time around. brilliant. My biggest take-away from that interaction was his smirk at the end. what does that mean? is he misleading Rick? did he give him the complete opposite strategy that he would use if he were still a leader? or maybe he is relishing the fact that Rick’s people are turning on him; and he knows it is only a matter of time before the dam breaks. Maybe he is even feeding the fire by encouraging Rick to give his people more reason to oppose his leadership. Or maybe we are just seeing some more of that softer, more genuine side of Negan and he is genuinely taking pride in the fact that Rick is coming to him, and is possibly even excited at the thought that he is bonding with the Grimes family. WHO KNOWS??
next notable occurrence: Joshua’s family and the Rose’s. we are in a time of great distress for all of the settlements, especially the one’s closest to the ones that were lost. After what we saw in 148, shit is getting tense. Julia may be trying to keep her and her husband together, by not only convincing him, but convincing herself too. It seems that she was successful… up until the Rose’s show up on their doorstep. normally I would say that everyone was behind Rick, but seeing how the hinges are coming loose, i’m thinking this situation is going south. Are they staging a coupé? are they planning on letting Negan loose? Unlikely. but still a possibility. they are feeling vulnerable and they need someone that will empower them. They know Negan is action-oriented, and if Rick doesn’t bring his plan to the public soon enough, they may search for active leadership elsewhere. OR they make take the Gregory route. Gregory was already able to convince the Rose family to murder a leader once, so clearly they aren’t above that. it seems that Tammy was the remorseful one in that situation, and she isn’t there to provide that stability anymore. Will they be able to sway Joshua’s family? Maybe Julia’s words were enough to keep them rooted and logical before going off the rails. are those even their intentions? maybe they just want to convince everyone to move to another settlement or some other alternative. as Kirkman always says, i guess we’ll have to “STAY TUNED.”
On to another highlight, the man with a whole heart, but half a face: Dwight. I’m a little confused about who Diane is. i even searched the wiki to find some clues, but comments on this issue speculate that this is possibly a misprint and is referring to Sherry. Regardless, it seems that Dwight’s excuse of not being cut out for leader life is not the real motive behind his actions in stepping down, which is the biggest takeaway. he clearly has fans, and not even his biggest one confessing her love for him is enough to sway him to stay. by the way, where is he going? we got to see that sexy lady Lucille in this issue, and the cover of 151 shows Dwight looking like a pack rat with Lucille in tow. He looks like a man on a mission in fact. maybe he is going to bash Sherry/Diane’s brains out and hit the road. I have an idea that since he isn’t actually opposed to being a leader, he is heading over to the Kingdom to take the throne there. Kirkman stated in the Letter Hacks that they will be addressing their leadership (or lack thereof) in the near future. I am loving the Dwight expansion as well. Character depth is always great and is essential in this series about humans and their coping with the apocalypse.
Back to Rick post Negan consultation and his meeting with Eugene. Is Rick actually following along with Negan’s idea about lying to his people? or is he taking the thought of creating a military and following through with it for real? Lord knows we wet our undies a little at the thought of an AOW II. regardless of how Rick is playing it, his people want action, and they want it now. Eugene lit up at the idea of a military to take on the whisperers, will the rest of the community that didn’t suffer a direct loss react the same? Personally, I love seeing Rick enthusiastic about raising a militia. I think they need it, and it totally gets me nostalgic about March to War, when Rick would get together with his close knit crew behind everyone’s back and basically go “no i’m not bending over for this dude.. we’re fucking them up.” Whether or not this is a facade to make people feel better, or an actual active motion will be revealed likely in the near future. But i have confidence that however this is going, my man Rick will be holding it down.
Mild side note, Eugene’s radio. we know that nothing in the walking dead is an accident, and I think that this will come heavily into play in the future, if not near future. I think we will either find another group willing to join our new militia, or we may see another wolves situation (comic of course, not the show) where the whisperers are the wolves in this situation. kind of a faux-threat, if you will. Rick and his militia chop down the whisperers, just to be discovered by a large group by Alexandria’s radio braodcasts. and that’s where the real war takes place. just spitballing here.
In conclusion, some speculation on 150. first of all, large issue, FUCK YES. i never get enough. i wish they released compendiums monthly. but yeah, 150: BETRAYED. Who is being betrayed? is Negan intentionally leading Rick into the collapse of his leadership? will Joshua and Tammy’s families betray Rick’s leadership? What about Dwight? will he betray Rick and/or the other communities somehow? we already know that he can be disloyal (although even Negan said it, he pushed the man’s limits). Maybe Lydia was a traitor all along and will be leading the first whisperer assault against our people? Or will Alpha’s people grow weary of her cut-throat leadership (pun intended)? How about Eduardo betraying Andrea and snitching on their whereabouts to the families of Joshua and Tammy who went hunting for Lydia. It could even allude to Rick lying to his people; essentially betrayal. so many possibilities… AND IT IS A MONTH AWAY D;
Really great issue though. one of my faves.
Looks like Rick took Negan’s advice. Making the community feel safe, and starting with the person that needs it the most, Eugene. It appears that Rick should have gone to the other people first.
As I mentioned last month, I was happy that Dwight moved on from Sherry, but when Laura said, “When you guys got here”…I realized that a mistake was made…Bummer. Does this mean it will be Diana the rest of the way. Diane will meet Lucille in the hands of Dwight so he can move on and we never have to see the name Diane?
Good luck fixing it.
No one is safe in the next issue because there are 30 pages of story. It will be LEGENDARY.
I am calling in sick January 13th.
Lucille is thirsty… But she miss Negan, like everyone of us… I hope not to be disa-fucking-pointed with next issue! Fuck! (In fact, Dwight’s shadow is Negan’s, Lucille is a girl of just one man)
Them folks knocking on Josh’s parents’ door though.. Seems like whatever they’re up to will be a focus in #150 to me.
WOW. I am just in awe of this issue. Literally every single character interaction had me totally invested. Possibly my favorite line though was when Negan brought Glenn back up, I’m really liking these throwbacks. First Rick mentions Lori, now Negan mentions Glenn? Heck yeah. One of the best things to see is the communities crumble. Seeing everyone in this constant state of unrest is really cool to see, especially after a good, thriving way of life has been achieved among the characters.
Another out-fucking-standing issue! Seems dangerous to follow the advice of Negan. Any advice he gives cannot be taken under the assumption that he’s actually trying to help. Rick is smart, but hopefully he’s not getting desperate. Thinking like Negan (dangerous, I know), I’d probably try & cause as much chaos as possible. He can’t enjoy being locked in that cell. If he can get the people of Alexandria to stop believing in Rick, and possibly get Rick out of power, this would work to his advantage. Negan is probably sitting back, laughing at the fact that he knows he now has Rick’s ear (something he’s wanted for a while). And what’s w/ the “US” and “THEM” line. When has Rick ever believed Negan was one of “US”. Also, the comment / reference to Glenn was probably a tactic to throw Rick off (usually angry people do not think clearly). My 2 cents. Can’t wait until 150! Merry Fucking Christmas everyone! 🙂 ps. yes, Negan is my favorite fucking character & I’m looking forward to him getting out of that cell! lol
“Nestle in below me so I can baby bird my wisdom into that pretty mouth of yours”
This is my new response to anyone who needs my assistance or advice. For that, I thank you Kirkman.
This issue was incredible. I was very excited to get some more time with Negan, as glad that it was played our with care (I loved that Rick shut Negan down IMMEDIATELY. No, you’re not getting out you idiot).
For a while now, I’ve been assuming that 150 would bring a war of sorts with the Whisperers. I am completely out of that camp after this issue, and into the ‘We’re going to see the old Rick come back to us’ camp. The 150 cover, plus the events in 149, lead me to believe that there will be an assassination attempt on Rick, and he’ll not only survive, but snap out of his indecisive streak and back into kicking ass and taking names. I also think that he’s dead serious about developing a military, and I think it’s about time. They have enough people, and enough weapons/ammo, to defend themselves against a large-scale attack… so they should be getting prepared for that day.
I can’t believe Negan brought up Glenn! Holy shit! The nerve of that guy! He is locked up, apparently at the mercy of Rick, and he still has no sensor. It makes me wonder why he says the things he does. We’ve heard him give some of the best dialog in the entire series, in my opinion…and that’s what makes his character so entertaining. But does he talk to people like this because he just doesn’t care and will say what he wants? Is he just putting up a front in order to give a specific impression? Or is he just dumb and says things without thinking? I don’t believe the latter. Even though some of the things he says would be most often heard from a foul-mouthed immature teenager, I believe what he says is with purpose….most of the time. I imagine his vulgarity serves to intimidate people, whether that is intentional or not…..and I imagine he just likes to hear the sound of his own voice. The answer is important, because it could tell the reader what Negan my have planned…if anything…or if he’s just living in the moment grasping at straws. The books have not made this entirely clear. Negan has really just ruled through power and fear, not cleverly laid out plans. That devilish smile he gives as Rick is leaving his cell could be the look of someone with a plan…or someone just pleased with himself for getting under Rick’s skin. I can’t wait to find out!
ALL OUT WAR 2?!!! I can’t wait to see issue 150! I think Rick needs to RELEASE THE KRAKEN! (and when I say kraken I mean Negan) I’d like to see Rick and Negan standing side by side each other fighting a common enemy rather than each other. I know it sounds wired, it’s like if Batman and the Joker started to fight crime with each other. But I feel Negan is going to stab Rick in the back and wear his skin or a skin of a person close to him(Andrea, Carl?) in the near future. Who knows, maybe Negan will join the Whisperers! The one thing that stood out in this issue was the many emotions Negan expresses! It’s like he’s in an audition and showing all his headshots! I’ve made a little collage of Negan’s many expression, he’s like The Chameleon from Marvel! My favorite pic is the “Talk to the hand face”. Negan has a bright future in actions after all this over!
The cover also reminded me of this! Role reversal, foil characters, symbolism, trading places…THE NIGHT IS DARKEST JUST BEFORE THE DAWN BUT I ASSURE YOU, THE DAWN IS COMING!
The resemblance is uncanny!!!! The Joker and Negan are necessary chaos and Batman and Rick are the vigilante justice the apocalypse needs!
THAT LAST PAGE GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS!!!! When you see Dwight holding up Lucille it was like King Arthur picking up Excalibur, like Link holding the Master Sword, like Thanos having the Infinity Gauntlet, like Bruce Wayne climbing out of the pit, like King Jofferey dying, like Captain America saying, “He is my friend” and Tony Stark replying, “So was I…”!! Just seeing Dwight holding up Lucille gave me CHILLS! Lucille will forever be iconic. I can’t wait for the moment when Lucille is in the hands of her rightful owner, Negan! Hopefully we’ll see this in issue 150!!! Can’t wait!
the cover is so AWESOME! With Rick sitting down, with his head down looking defeated and Negan standing behind him ready to stab him in the back! The devil is unleashed once again and his name his NEGAN and his pitchfork Lucille will be his once again. Also Dwight looking undefeatable with a crossbow in one hand and Lucille in the other. One is a long range weapon and another close combat. I can’t wait to Dwight KICKASS in the battlefield! 150 hurry up!!!!!
Lucille’s cheating on Negan!?? I’m disappointed
But then again, Negan and Rick’s bromance is advancing too fast; those eye-contactless handjobs are making Negan happy
There’s just something not right about Rick going to Negan for his thoughts. I think Rick is smarter than to consider advice from the likes of Negan. I just can’t accept that he would, no matter the situation or desperation. It almost feels as if he went to Negan to confirm what NOT to do or for some other reason than genuinely seeking advice. Which puts my curiosity of who’s betraying who in a broader spectrum than most, I’m sure… but Kirkman does that for me & I love it! This probably calls for a life sustaining digital purchase to be added to my print.
~On the Sherry/Diane deal… if someone is still keeping up with an inactive post (HATE having to wait so long for delivery!), correct me if I’m wrong and/or clarify some details… as I remember, things were strained between Dwight & Sherry because of the choice she made & I don’t remember seeing any reconciliation since then, so why wouldn’t he move on within 2 years? Seems logical & I’d believe that much more easily than the names being a brain fart!
I was thinking that too at first, but on re-read, it does seem like the chick who talking to Dwight was using the name Diane when describing what seemed like Dwight and Sherry’s arrival and beginnings with the Saviors.
Just reread it… I’m pretty sure this Diane is the same chick we know as Sherry. I’d think it was a mistake if it was a brief mention but they’re having a conversation… so I’m thinking maybe Diane could be a middle name… or maybe there was an alias used at the time of Negan’s reign. If it was a mistake, Kirkman needs to clean that shit up!
I wrote to walkingdead@skybound.com telling them the same thing…must be a middle name…
Sorry, Bassy, but I completely disagree. Rick knows Negan was a leader too. Negan ruled a large community and kept them in line. “Even a broken clock is right twice a day.” Just because Negan is a “Bad guy” doesn’t mean he’s not capable of good ideas. And the thing is, Negan actually gave him good advice. He wasn’t even slightly wrong. Rick’s inaction could get him killed but he’s sitting on the PERFECT boogeyman and doesn’t even realize it. Sometimes being a leader does call for a little misinformation. Negan understands this.
Plus Rick is pretty much out of people he can immediately talk to since all his pawns and knights are moving across the board. And let’s not forget that speech Negan gave Rick a few issues ago about Rick needing Negan alive so he can convince himself he’s a good person. Negan understands Rick better than anyone, and I think Rick knows it. Who better to bounce ideas off of?
I get where you’re coming from. I just don’t see Rick as a leader who’s totally lost control & all his options at this point. A man like Rick always has other options. He finds other options. Negan didn’t give him good advice, if you ask me. Why would he, except for his own benefit? And advising him to lie to his community… that kind of shit always comes back on a person twofold! You do dirt, you get dirt… and it always rises to the surface! I always thought Rick smart enough to know this. This wouldn’t be the Rick that I know. So, yeah, this just doesn’t add up to me. And Neutral, a broken clock is still BROKEN no matter what it says when it says it.
I also don’t take Negan’s speech to Rick as truth. That’s coming from Negan, not Rick. It’s another sign of Negan using his best weapon. Whether or not it finally penetrates remains to be seen, but I have my doubts. Again, I believe Rick is smarter than that.
Sounds like Laura didn’t get the full scoop on Negan’s point system/survival choices. That or she’s just as delusional as the readers who think Negan’s an OK guy just trying to survive.
I loved this issue! Can’t wait for what’s to come!
The only thing I’m curious about is; What the hell happened to Magna and her group? Are they completely forgotten? 🙂
The first time the cover for this issue was revealed I said ” There is no way he would let Negan out”. Not logical since A) Negan tried to kill Rick and everyone he loves B) Maggie and practically everyone else would go ballistic and probably string Rick up, or lock him up and C) What kind of good can Negan do on the outside? Go forth as an army of one to take on the Whisperers?
Negan is no dummy, most of the time. So his view on things is worth listening to. But it is all to be taken with a grain of salt. Back when he started believing Rick’s speech about the communities joining together in harmony, flowers, rainbows, unicorns all that I though he was pretty stupid and gullible. Look where that got him. I am sure he learned his lesson, that Rick is no more as trustworthy to Negan then Negan is to Rick. So he may deal out some advice to Rick, but be on Rick’s side? No.
That does not stop the angry mob from sneaking down there and letting Negan out though.
