Welcome to the 131 Discussion! Spoilers follow, naturally, so step away if you haven’t read yet. Otherwise…
If you were expecting a definitive answer to The Mystery of The Talking Walkers this issue then you must be a little bummed out. You must also not know Robert Kirkman. Everything in due time. Aside from that, some quick hits:
Sophia is quite the little badass now.
The boys at The Hilltop are perfecting their moonshine.
Dante, who seems to have a thing for Maggie, is sent off to look for Ken and winds up in a spot of trouble.
Earl kicks ass at BBQ construction.
Carl got the job after all. It was very emo of him to just assume that Earl couldn’t have two apprentices.
Sophia seems pretty pumped that Carl’s staying.
Rick makes a joke.
Michonne is alluded to mysteriously. “And even after all that happened… I miss Michonne.”
Something is up between Rosita and Eugene.
Aaaaand Magna and her crew get rough with Andrea just as the issue comes to a close.
So what did everyone think? Carl’s pretty happy, huh? Is Andrea going to get water-boarded? What happened between Rick and Michonne? Or am I just reading too much into that? Lots of things put into place this issue…
As per usual, we will send a Robert Kirkman-signed 131 to our favorite comment, as determined by yours truly, Lizzy Lizzenheimer, and intern-cum-full-timer Stephan “Little Rooster” Muri-something.
Let’s try and keep the commentary on-topic. We’ve had some comment threads lately that tend to… meander. It’s not very inviting to new-comers. Otherwise, go nuts, kids!
UPDATE: And the winner is… Jake Maese! Congrats!
Honorable mentions: JW Coombs and Carly Hudson, who also contributed some awesome images. This discussion post was kind of the best thing ever to read through.
Fantastic issue as always .
I definitely want to see more of Danta. I hope he’s not about to be Walker lunch.
Loved this issue even though we still don’t know what’s happening with Michonne!!
Other than that I think the moral of issue 131 is don’t fuck with the ladies of TWD.
I believe it’s in issue 126, Michonne gets slashed by one of The Saviors’ blades which was covered in Walker Guts
But why did her and Rick have an issue?? I am DYING to know!
Maybe when Michonne saw she was dying, she tried to kill Negan and Rick still not allowed.
Yeah when they mentioned Michonne it got me all curious
I have been on the edge of my seat the last few issues waiting for someone to remember she exists!
Hopefully shes a Queen of a rival Kingdom. Pun intended.
After this issue, I’ve seen The Walking Dead volume 1 and seen how much Carl and Sophia have grown.
I’m guessing Carl makes Sophia a sword, and she becomes the next Michonne
I like this thought!
Carl and Sophia were bloody adorable in this issue.
And I quote: “The great Carl Grimes… Sucker-punched by a girl.”
Loved that moment!
I knew this day would come Sophia and Carl hook up only took 131 issues… Loving it
They haven’t hooked up yet! We could go another ten issues or more of them misunderstanding each other and not realizing how the other feels. Isn’t that how high school goes?
I think when things are looking real good for them carl will read the letter from Anna, or maybe Sophia finds it and reads it first! Either way, feels like that letter’s gonna spoil the fun sometime soon.
Oh yeah, gotta love that puppy love. It’s been a long time coming. Maybe now, they can get together, Sophia can teach Carl how to fistfight, and he can teach her how to shoot. And together, the will eat the world!
I will gladly watch it burn if these two are the last ones standing.
Oh, it’s on.
Once again, Kirkman and Company amaze me with the detail and storyline! Thank you guys for being a respite from the daily merry-go-round!!
What a great issue! I’m very happy that Sophia became a badass, rather than a crazy Carol v.2. That stuff with Ken is interesting and creepy as fuck.
That guy from the letter hacks made my day. (you know which one)
Also: Seriously Charlie??? Don’t star with the butt-cracks again…
That’s pretty close to being WAY more than just butt-crack too! 😀 You know, I kinda like the buttcracks, it’s like a game of Where’s Waldo or something. Like ‘There’s three buttcracks this issue, can you spot them all?’
I bring up a theory from the last issue. What if when Marco leaves Ken, Ken meets someone disguised as walkers and give him ragged clothes covered in zombie guts and flesh so the other walkers won’t eat him. That is why he droppes his clothes in the barn. Then later(In issue 134 probably) Jesus fends of a group of biters only to find out that he has killed Ken…
that would be a good twist
Man, great imagination!
You bastard, you killed Kenny!
This is my thoughts exactly! Even before I had seen the clothes in the barn. Obviously they can’t speak, so why would they be whispering? Probably to keep their voices low enough so that the true zombies don’t hear them. Putting guts on you will keep them off of you. It seems like a safe way to travel. Dress up as a roamer and rub some guts on yourself, you’re good to go. But why wouldn’t Ken just direct them back to the safe areas? Maybe he was lost, I guess. They were in an area that wasn’t patrolled, it was just mapped. idk. It sounds like an awesome route to go.
I accidentally bought the digital copy of this issue on Tuesday night, so now I can’t look forward to the print copy as much as I’d like to. Anyway, something has to go bad eventually, and it will be SO depressing when it does, because at the prison, for example, they didn’t have nearly as much to lose. A problem now would just absolutely crush Rick and co. Specifically in regards to this issue, I like the new character Dante, (not as a good person, but as an interesting story element) and now I’m curious about Michonne. She’s probably just at the Kingdom or something, because Rick said he missed Maggie in the same context, but who knows. And in regards to Magna, does the ASZ even have anything to hide? As far as I can tell, they seem pretty trustworthy. Am I missing something?
I think if Rick and Co. were COMPLETELY honest about everything they’d done, it might be a tad scary to them. Michonne and the Gov, Rick and the bandits on the road, the Hunters, and a few other things they had to do to survive that would sound pretty frightening out of context. Of course, to be fair they’d have to explain why they did those things, and what all had been done to them, which I think would clear their names fairly well. Not to mention, what have Magna and her group had to do/had done to them!? They don’t seem too willing to be forthcoming with the details to me, so turnabout’s fair play! Rick might slam Magna against the wall when he gets back!
I’m probably the most guilty of meandering .. I tend to go off topic a lot .. I will try to be better at keeping it walking dead … Sorry about that . I’m not trying to scare off fans !
Don’t kid yourself. Everybody knows who the biggest BS’er on this site is. I’ve had my run since this site was created and I guess my time is up. I meant no harm, had hella fun, tried to keep the bs relevant, & humbly pass the torch of “Top Commenter” to you, my dear Z-Crew DeadHead. I know those new-comers are gonna love you!
I really want to see what a BS torch looks like.
You put bullshit in a bowl on a stick, then light the bullshit on fire.
I know I do.
I would Photoshop one but my dinner is ready and after I won’t have the initiative
And I’ve been sick so you lot must of been tearing it up without me 🙂 erm great issues the woman of this issue rule the roost juat like in my house. Mw thinks maggie has a soft spot for Dante, or am I reading to much in to that rey smile of hers.
You better not leave!
Ah, I’m not going anywhere….this is home. But I felt you were pointing that firing gun at me.
Seriously, I know I instigate a ton of BS on here & I’m sorry for that…just having too much fun…I’m gonna do my best to tone it down, promise!
If bastet leaves we riot !
I like what you did there.
No, more bullshit!! Bullshit for all! 😀
The point wasn’t to single out anyone. With the commenting system the way it is, really long exchanges push comments really far down, and we don’t anyone getting buried. I love that you guys come here and just shoot the shit. We just have to find a way to balance it. We’re looking into some stuff that may allow us to have our cake and eat it, too…
Bastet! Nooooo!
You mean you love me?!
Of course!
I love you guys, too….can I have my sniper shirt now? I’m DYIN’ here!
Whadda ’bout me?!
Ok, I’ve got to know; what is this sniper shirt? I’ve never seen any “sniper” shirts in the store; so you’ve got me curious. Especially because it seems you’re really bent on getting it; so it must be cool. LOL
This….it’s due out for October. I just can’t wait to get my grubby little paws on it!
I expect happy dances to commence when you do!
Right on! Are they doing shirts for the other pieces of “A New Beginning” promo art?
I’d love to have one with the “Small Town Sheriff” image of Rick.
Carly & I was talking about that….I would think that there would be 3 other shirts but the only one I saw was Andrea. Here’s where I picked up on it:
https://imagecomics.com/content/view/image-comics-solicitations-for-october-20141
Nice, I really hope they do more. Maybe in due time.
Honestly though, I’m really digging the “Faces” shirt, with all the zombie faces from the back of the hardcover collections. Pretty neat.
I like that one, too! I’m considering going for both when they come out but if I had to choose one…..sniper it is!
WHOA, GUYS–THIS COMIC IS AMAZING. IT’S NOT JUST TOLERABLE. UNLESS OTHER COMICS BURNT OUT MY EYEBALLS… THIS SERIES IS ACTUALLY GOOD
Carl can take a punch right in the face like his father lol
Oh, wow. What an issue, a lot of questions and mysteries being posed in this one. I absolutely love the direction the book is going in now.
First off, Sophia’s a badass! She cut those two boys down like it was nobody’s business. When Brian said-“You’re getting tougher”; that was the understatement of the century! She’s SophiaMotherF*cking…Greene?, and if she keeps this up, she just may be up there with Jesus and Michonne one day. Also, I though her accidentally sucker punching Carl was funny, it was a cool way to break the ice, I also love the comment she made-“You should have been able to dodge that right? The Great Carl Grimes, sucker-punched by a girl”, that was priceless. So, it’s apparent that Prince Grimes is having to do more than a little living in his father’s shadow. But, I love how quickly Sophia goes from tough, independent badass chick, to shy and smitten school girl the second she lays eyes on Carl. There’s no doubt in my mind that their relationship is finally reaching a point that’s been a long time coming. It was most obvious when Carl told her she was staying, and he gave him the cute little mousy, and blushing response of “Cool!”. It kind of warms the heart to sees those two finally coming full circle, we’ve watched them grow up and suffer together, times when they might not have made it. But now, they actually have a chance at a normal life, and a chance at love, and fun and all those things. It touching.
Moving on, I’m not sure how I feel about the mass manufacturing of corn-liquor. That’s only going to lead to trouble, but I guess with society and civilization comes all of societies problems. I’m sure, without a doubt we’ll eventually be running into some wine-o, lazy bum types that sit around the Hilltop all day in a drunken daze, panhandling and offering to spit-shine shoes. This new, stable civilization they’ve built will bring with it all of it’s unsavory details.
Also, I’m not so sure how I feel about this Dante guy. He seems like a good guy, and it’s apparent that there is something budding between him and Maggie, but he also seems like he could be trouble. He rubbed me the wrong way, I got the feeling he may be a little two-sided, a little selfish and cut-throat. But, on the contrary, he seemed pretty dedicated and loyal to finding Ken and doing the right thing, even when the others wanted to give up out of their own selfishness. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, maybe he’s not so bad.
Also, Carl finally delivered Jesus letter to Alex. I always thought it strange that Jesus chose to move to ASZ, but he always said he didn’t have much at Hilltop anyway, and spent little time there. Not to mention, he swore allegiance to Rick, and I don’t think he would ever want to leave his command. Anyway, it seems like Alex has found someone else, but this someone also seems to udnerstand that Alex’s heart is with Jesus, as he holds his hand and say-“See, I told you he cares about you”. This kind of bothered me though, it seems like people are always trying to paint homosexuals in a very loose and promiscuous light. Either way, it’s cool being able to catch up with some minor characters like Alex.
And Carl, I’m so happy he stopped being a brooding little and confronted Earl like a man. It’s amazing what a little bit of straight forward communication can get you isn’t it? So, it’s great that all worked out, now Carl can learn his trade, and be with his woman. But, I’m still dying to know what that letter from Anna says, I have a feeling it may be a little more important than just puppy love.
Back to Dante,I really enjoyed getting another glimpse at the outside world, and how nature has re-staked it’s claim to the lands that it rightfully owns. The developments of mankind are almost completely unrecognizable. Another thing, and this is touching on Marco’s talking-walkers claims. I’m still fairly certain they’re going to run into some Quislings(or pretenders); but when they found the barn Ken was left at, and they found Ken’s shirt and Marco’s had very suspiciously placed right there in plain view, almost like bait, and the very second that Dante hollered out Ken’s names, the herd of walkers responded immediately; almost as if they were lying in wait. I’d hate to believe it, but that really seemed like a trap did it not? The walkers most likely already ate Ken, but through rudimentary reason were able to deduce that people will come looking for him; so they place his clothes in the front of the barn, to entice them to look further, then when they call out for Ken, it alerts the dormant and waiting walkers, and they pounce. Like I said, I’m not on the evolved walker train, but that really seemed like a good ole’ fashion trap, a hoodwink if you will.
I loved Rick and Maggie’s discussion. It was like a melding of the minds of kings, two great leaders sharing their thoughts and worries. It was very cool. The coolest part though, was seeing them be able to interact in a similar way to how they did in the old days, when they were just people struggling to survive together. I especially loved the-“**** that! I’m happy!” and “Holy shit!”-“What?”-“Me too!”; that was priceless. That little moment goes to show how deep their bond is now. Also, I think Rick talking about the bad times being behind them, and Maggie telling him to bite his tongue, and not to tempt fate, is definite foreshadowing of the impending doom to come. I also loved how Rick admitted that he missed Maggie, because even though he happy to see her as a wise and powerful leader, she became part of his family during those first two years, and I’m sure Rick misses that, he misse having his family around him all the time, after all, those are the only people who really know the real Rick, and the number of people left who were part of that special bond has dwindled greatly. I’m sure Rick is a very lonely man in his private moments.
Speaking of Rick missing his family. That comment he made about Michonne, the first mention of her since #126, literally scared me. The look on his face, the distance in his eyes, the way he seemed to be talking in the past tense. “Even after all that happened…I miss Michonne”; I’m going crazy over this, I don’t know what to think. On one hand, it seems that because of the way Ricks says it, that she’s still alive and they just had a really terrible falling out. But at the same time, you can’t help but wonder if it was something worse. Last time we saw Rick and Michonne in the same room, they were thanking each other, and talking about how they’ve always been there for each other, and Rick was urging her to move in with Ezekiel, since he knew they had a thing going on. I just wonder, did things go bad with Ezekiel and Michonne stayed loyal to him? I mean, we know the Kingdom hasn’t been excommunicated from the community network, because patrolman Benjamin is a Kingdom resident, and Rick told him he would be reporting him to Ezekiel. I wonder what happened? Either way, Rick makes it sound bad. The way he phrases it, makes it seem like whatever happened was so terrible, that anybody in their right mind wouldn’t ever miss Michonne for what she did or was a part of. Oh man, this is going to eat me alive!
Finally, I think it’s pretty clear Rosita is pregnant. Can’t wait to see what that little abomination comes out looking like!LOL
Also, WTF MAGNA!? She must be drunk, or completely stupid and crazy. She’s pushing her luck by bum rushing and holding Andrea captive for interrogation. Rick and the gang never did anything that brazen and utterly disrespectful as that. Not to mention, they have hidden nothing from Magna, she snooped around and found Negan and found the truth. But, Rick never hid that from her, he offered to bring her down there when he returned. And she goes and pulls a stunt like this? Beating and kidnapping the leaders wife in his own home? I hope they know, no matter what their intentions are, there will be hell to pay when Rick returns, or when Andrea gets free. This will not go unpunished. They won’t be able to explain this type of behavior away as “looking out for her people’s safety”. I’m not sure what Magna is trying to pull, but she’s barking up the wrong tree. Someone will die for this. It’s completely unnecessary. They’ve hidden nothing, lied about nothing, given them food, shelter, clothes, and absolutely no reason for them to do something like this. I think Magna’s intention aren’t what we though they were, I think they’re going to attempt a hostile takeover. Oh man, it’s going to be so bad for her.
I can’t wait for next month, two issues next month! And they said in the letter hacks that #132 is going to be so surprising and shocking that we’ll be glad #133 is right behind it.
Good point about the trap laid in the barn. Did you ever see I Am Legend? Those weren’t walkers but they were bloodthirsty, and later in the story did something similar to this. They never spoke though.
Yeah. Have you ever read World War Z by Max Brooks. If you have, remember the Quislings? If you haven’t I urge you to Google the term-“Quislings”. You’ll start to see the whole talking walker thing much, much differently.
I saw the movie but I heard the book was very different, another one with the zombies doing a little thinking was Land of the Dead. Some people didn’t like that one but I thought it was ok
Ugh, this has got me so freaking worried. I’m sure she’s alive, but it seems like there’s some really, really bad blood between Michonne and Rick now, maybe even between Michonne and everyone. I feel like it would have to be something very, very bad in order for her to be shunned and excommunicated by everyone, especially Rick. Because they always had this understanding that was on a different level than anyone else; they shared things with one another they didn’t share with anyone else. It seemed like they had the most genuine and unbreakable of bonds. But apparently something broke it; and what that could’ve been worries the crap out of me.
I think that, maybe Michonne chose to follow Rick back to ASZ, rather than move to the Kingdom. Rick doesn’t agree with this, he thinks she should go be happy, and try to start her own life, rather than feeling indebted to him. But, she stays anyway. As Rick begins to rebuild ASZ, and bring civilization to the communities and surrounding areas he is very busy, as is Andrea and most everyone else of importance. But, due to Rick injury, and improper healing, he can’t get around as much as he’d like, and with Andrea so busy with construction and security, he enlists the help if Michonne as his assistant/deputy/sidekick during these hectic times. Eventually, in true Michonne fashion, just like Tyreese and Carol, Michonne makes a move on Rick. And who can blame her, after all they’ve shared and been through, how could she not feel something for Rick? But this catches Rick off guard, he reciprocates, but immediately regrets it. A love triangle is formed, and Rick know he has to do something before this becomes ugly. So, without making a scene, he quietly exiles Michonne to the Kingdom, asking her to leave, and go be with Ezekiel and be happy, hang up her sword and start a family maybe. Although this was never what she truly wanted, out of respect for Rick and Carl, and even Andrea, she leaves quietly. And when she leaves she stays gone; having not returned to visit, or communicated with anyone from the other communities in a long time. It’s a possibility.
Yes, this also makes sense. OMG, I just need to know the truth.
Somethings never change….
Sophia then and now
She looks like she has gotten younger. The curious case of Sophia Peletier.
Not really. Her face is elongated. She’s taller now.
It’s just her hair length and her smiling expression.
which walking dead is that
Dinner at Hilltop
Where do I get a veggie plate?
Lizzenheimer, eh?
No.
Sophia and Carl forever <3
Not cool them ganging up on Andrea . I wonder if Michonne and Rick had a big fall out over him keeping Negan alive . I’m glad to see Maggie and Rick having a good conversation. She has really become a strong leader . I’m glad Carl and Sophia are together . He needs a good companion and she’s perfect for the job .
That’s a good point, she could be bringing up the Governor in terms of letting someone like that live. Look how that turned out for her when she did it. Maybe she was breaking in and about to kill Negan when Rick found her and had to fight her off. That could leave some bad blood.
Do you think she stayed with Ezekiel? I have a feeling she is running the Kingdom helping Ezekiel with things because she is a little tougher than he is .
I give it a 50/50, Michonne has been in a lot of relationships over the course of the comic. Probably more than anyone else. But I think almost all of them ended so far when the bf died, so she probably is with him, since Ezekiel has been basically confirmed alive by Rick’s comment.
It makes perfect sense that she felt Rick did the wrong thing since past experience speaks for itself. She probably regrets not killing the governor because she feels that keeping him alive allowed him to find the prison and kill nearly everyone there and that’s been killing her on the inside. A fall out between the two does make perfect sense.
Yes that didn’t work out at all when she didn’t finish off the governor.
Yes Jason but that wasn’t Rick’s decision to make. If given the choice, I think Rick would’ve told her to kill him. He got rid of Martinez/Rodriguez pretty damn fast when he needed to.
I’m kind of confused by your comment . I know it wasn’t Rick’s choice not to kill the governor . Michonne acted alone and probably regrets not finishing him . Therefore she wouldn’t like Negan to live because the potential risk of him escaping and killing again . Possibly ruining what they have built in the process .
Yeah, but Michonne says straight up in #126 that she’s learned not to question him; and that she’s finally realized he has a real knack for leading. And whatever he chooses to do will be the right choice in her eyes.
Hey Jason, issue 132 is titled “Happiness” and Kirkman said it’ll be anything and everything but that! something bada either going to haopen to andrea or someone else I know it! What do you and Bastet think? (Idk how to tag people)
I think Andrea isn’t going to take this situation lightly . I will be surprised if she doesn’t kick them out . I think you just put @disqus_snfPz6cxAM:disqus . I don’t think people should trust Magna she is dangerous . I think we will see what happened to the Kingdom .
Took me a little while to decide whether that would mean Andrea or Michonne, since there’s a hint of grimness about Rick mentioning Michonne in the last frame. I’d have to say that my sniper is not gonna be “man-handled” without putting up a fight (remember that Savior that dealt her a nasty one on the tower?) & Magna strikes me as someone who’s not gonna back down, so…..
There was tension during the initial questioning, so either there’s gonna be a serious scrap or Andrea’s gonna end up in some sort of hostage situation until Rick gets back.
As for Michonne, I’m leaning towards her coming into the picture right about fair time….and looks like we have a herd on the way (#133 is “Impending Doom”).
I really don’t go on this website except when a new issue comes out I think I missed last months discussion
I really hope nothing goes down with Sofia and Carl because now that they are teenagers and they could work it into the story but that would be crossing the line but they’ve done that before so yeah (I’d still read it though)
Why do you think it would be crossing the line for Carl and Sophia to be in a relationship? They not getting any younger, and it’s a normal part of growing up. They’ve been through so much together, grew up together, and for a long time, they were all each other had. Whether they realize it yet or not, they’ve always been in love, and are destined to be together.
No to mention, they were already childhood “boyfriend and girlfriend”. Sophia asks Carl to be her boyfriends, he agree, and they can be seen often pecking each other on the cheek, holding hands, playing and having fun together, and comforting one another.
Honestly, I think this is going to turn out to be the sweetest, and most heart-warming love story in the entire series. Especially now that they live in a world where puppy love can actually exist again. It’s really touching in my opinion.
Kind of makes you mad that Sophia on the show can’t do the same with Carl on the show.
Agreed. Carl’s all alone on the show. He’s got nothing even remotely close to a peer or friend he can confide in. It’s gotta suck. At least in the comic he always had Sophia; and still does.
“Crossing the line”
So they may fuck. Doesn’t mean they’ll show it, dude. Besides. Teenagers do that. Their puppy love is adorable. I think they’ll be fine.
Apparently that guy has a bit of a twisted and guttural outlook on things.
I don’t understand how someone can see something so sweet and innocent and lovely as pre-teen puppy love; and the first thing they think about is moral indecencies and sexual deviance. Ugh, smh…
Still haven’t seen Gregory yet XD Man, I am loving Sophia. How awesome was she? She really is a great match for Carl too. Hopefully he’ll choose her over the little flasher, Anna 😉 It was so adorable when she touched his sucker-punched cheek 😀 I’m glad Carl talked to Earl as well and got that sorted out! Now he doesn’t have to kill that other kid. Also, Earl’s shirt was the shit. XD
Dante sort of unsettled me…I could see him turning into the creepy stalker-sort (or Spencer Part II?) Maybe the guy is just jaded and tired… but compared to the earlier years of the ZA, the world is much better…it seems like hope would be on the rise. It was weird that he was almost bitching about having to find Ken, and then turned around and berated the other guys for doing the same thing. I don’t think he’s going to die anytime soon though.
Michonne! Hmmm. I’m not going to jump to any conclusions. I think she’s still alive. My guess would be she and Rick had a major argument. Probably about Negan. After all, Ezekiel hated Negan…maybe he felt betrayed that Rick chose to keep him alive…and Michonne sided with him. Or perhaps they clashed over leadership styles (Rick being more like a democracy and Ezekiel sticking with the monarchy-type thing?) I suppose we’ll find out.
Magna is acting crazy irrational. You’d think after she found Negan she would be more at ease…especially since she clearly didn’t believe his story. Then again, she still might not agree with Rick locking people up for life. After all, it would be common for an imprisoned person to want to get out, right? Negan’s lying isn’t exactly grounds for her to agree wholeheartedly with Rick, esp when she doesn’t know the whole story. I really want to know WHY she is so paranoid and distrusting. I’m guessing it has to do with her comment about ‘knowing what torture is like, what it can do to someone.’ Considering how little we know of Magna and her group… Andrea could be in serious danger.
Rosita is still a mystery…I’m sticking with my personal theory that she’s having an affair with Olivia. Heh. 😛
Slighty OT, maybe? Letter Hack inspired again…regarding Negan escaping. I’ve been having a crazy thought lately. While people are expecting Negan to be a ticking time-bomb of future destruction….the bomb will be a total dud! Negan has clearly been growing more despondent being all alone down there; how fucked up would it be if Rick came down one morning to feed him and found Negan had like…hung or strangled himself with the bedsheet. It would be like…this potential threat suddenly gone and a totally twisted move. XD (I’m really HOPING this doesn’t happen) I think Negs is too tenacious a fucker to off himself though ;P
That said, I don’t think we’ll see my favorite Savior for a while, and that’s ok. I’m ready for ‘talking’ walkers, Michonne, Dwight, Andrea’s fate, Carl and Sophia puppy-love and nutty Magna to get her ass kicked! Bring it ON!
Perhaps Michonne and Ezekiel went and took out the remaining Saviors ..
I was thinking something similar. If you remember, Ezekiel hated Negan’s guts, and he was pretty tore up over Richard’s death, as well as Shiva’s at the hands of the Saviors. As well as countless other Kingdom soldiers who died in that battle for the outpost.
We also know Michonne doesn’t like leaving loose ends, people that might seek vengeance in the future. So maybe, going against Rick’s wishes and better judgment, Michonne and Ezekiel recruited some folks who didn’t entirely agree with letting Negan live, and allowing Dwight to take over the Saviors, and allowing them to walk into the sunset to live in peace. After all, every single member of the Savior’s army was guilty of war crimes, and you know they felt no remorse.
So Rick urges them to seek peace, and focus their energies on rebuilding, and creating a legacy and future. Rick encourages them to let the Saviors leave in peace, and have the opportunity to become something better now that they’re out from underneath Negan’s reign. But anger and vengeance wins and Michonne and Ezekiel lead and attack on the remaining Savior, killing a great many of them. This greatly angers and enrages Rick; and completely contradicts everything he’s trying to accomplish; and those callous actions almost start another war. But through diplomacy, Rick is able to have a sit-down with Dwight and Maggie, and work out a peaceful solution. They make deal, and in return for Dwight no retaliating against the Kingdom, Rick promises to impose very strict sanctions on the Kingdom and it’s people . Sanctions like curfews for Kingdom residents, banishment from travel on the secured trade route, as well as the other communities. Large cuts in trade materials given to the Kingdom, only allowing them to receive 50% of the food from the other communities, and completely cutting off their ammunition supply to prevent further violence. On top of that, they are prohibited from attending the fair for two years, and Ezekiel and all members of his administration are permanently banned from the monthly Community-Leader Meetings.
So right now there’s a lot of bad blood and tension between the other communities and the Kingdom. While the Kingdom struggle to regain their reputation, the trust and loyalty of the other leaders, and their place in the network of communities.
I think that would be pretty cool; because after all, in this new civilized society Rick has built, the best way to punish leader and communities would be diplomatic sanctions. Similar to the sanctions imposed on Russia by the U.N. in recent news.
I really liked your theory, makes sense. I can not wait to read the 132
Freaking awesome post man it blew me away. I can definitely see what you are saying actually happening too .
I just read the end of the war and Michonne tells to Rick that she learned at not to disagree of him and she thinks he made the right decision. Also, one thing I forgot, Michonne was hit by a flame of saviors.
She was just knocked over the head with a crowbar. She went down, saw stars for a minute, before being helped back to her feet by Ezekiel, and continuing to fight.
She is absolutely fine., it’s nothing to worry about at all. Several people took their lumps during that the short and final engagement of AOW. Also, if she had been infected by the zombie-muck, she would have already been showing symptoms of infection in #126, Nicholas was barely slashed when retreating into the house at Hilltop, and even though the wound was superficial, he had been exposed to the zombie muck, and he died within hours of receiving the wound. Another thing, Michonne isn’t the type to keep something that serious from the others, especially Rick.
And most important of all, Kirkman would never give one of his best, most compelling, and fan-favorite characters an ambiguous, off-panel death during a time jump.
I hope you’re right.
BOOM!!! Yeah..this was a filler issue, however I really enjoyed it. At first I wasnt into the whole “time jump” thing, but now its growing on me. It almost makes me anticipate the next issue even more to see new people and how favorite characters we have come to love have changed in appearance. Hope Andrea isnt killed or hurt by that stupid Magna ho….she is my favorite character apart from rick and abraham. Maggie seems very badass, and so does her adopted daughter Sophia. It would be cool if Carl and her had a thing, however Carl/Carol :/………I am somewhat a “new comer” to this site so dont scare me away guys.
Ok…why the hell is Sophia dressed Exactly like Carl? Brown gloves, tank top, jeans…c’mon.
Actually, she’s really dressed more like Andrea from AOW. Tank-top with exposed midriff, tight low-rise jeans, boots, and gloves. All she needs now is a bolt-action rifle slung over her back.
The uniform of a bad ass. Duh.
Here, I whipped these up real quick to show just how uncanny the resemblance is. No wonder Carl’s attracted to Sophia.
Ray Rice should meet some of the ladies in issue 131. they could beat him up a little bit!
What a great issue! So many mysteries.
Wow, what a Great Issue!
So, Talking Walkers eh?
I think this may just be others hiding in plain site.
-Our new comers to town said to Andrea that they haven’t encountered any other people, but maybe thats because they have all been dressed in zombie camouflage?
Yeah, that’s pretty much been figured for the most part. Look at the cover for #134, “From Whispers to Screams” and then go and Google the term-“Quislings”.
I you can’t beat em, just lose your f*cking mind and join ’em!
I would like to officially say this is killing me.
Yeah, yeah… Talking zombies. WHAT’S IN THE FUCKING LETTER!?
Nude selfies.
Anna managed to score the last Polaroid camera in the apocalypse. 😛
Aw yeah. Carl getting adventurous.
I have a bad feeling about alcohol being distributed at the upcoming fair. Before this issue came out, I thought to myself, “when are they going to start making alcohol.” I think someone or a group of people are going to get wasted at the fair and somehow wander towards Negan’s jail and ultimately free him. All I can say is that there is something foreboding about this fair. The theory regarding Rick and Ezekiel is very interesting, and it is unusual for Michonne to just dissapear or cut off Rick and company; there must be a story to this.
Indeed, one it will take WAY to long to tell! I’m ready to know yesterday!
Yeah, I’ve been saying that the regular manufacturing of alcohol is only going to breed trouble. But that’s the nature of the beast with civilization, society brings with it all of it’s problems and ugliness. What’s next? A rise in crime? Unemployment? Layabouts? Thieves, rapist, drunks an addicts, domestic violence, spousal abuse. What happens after they’ve been manufacturing the booze for a while, and have it down to a science? They’re going to need a place to peddle their wares, so what’s the obvious course of nature? Build a saloon. Next things you know, people are slacking off, ignoring their duties and responsibilities, and spending all day in the tavern. What comes after that? Well naturally the drunk and rowdy men want to play some games, they want to gamble! So the saloon makes way for a small casino; then, once the drunk men have lost most of their money, and the night is winding to a close, they begin to feel their sap a’rising and the go in search of a female companion. So before we know, it they’ve got a saloon, casino, and a whore house. It’s only a matter of time until this society develops a bustling and dangerous criminal underground. It can’t be avoided.
All of those people died and became the walking dead, all that was left in the world were good people who knew what it takes to survive and thrive, I seriously doubt rick will allow anyone of those things in Alexandria, and good luck convincing Maggie. No coombs, I think youre wrong on this one, a little alcohol at a county fair is actually good. Alcohol is actually an efficient means of storage for carbohydrates and other essential goodness, that, in todays society is thought of as unwanted. Whereas, in an all out survival situation, you would get your sustenance anywhere possible. Be it booze, flesh of an animal you hunted, or eating grubworms and other insects for protein.
You can’t be serious?–“All the bad people died and all that’s left is good people?–What kind of fairly tale, naive crap is that? There are plenty of unsavory folks left in the world, and no matter how intense their interview process is, and how good a judge of character Rick considers himself, there’s no way he could keep people with unsavory tendencies out of ASZ. People lie, all the time, especially if telling a lie means getting something they want.
Everybody’s got a vice, in one way or another. While I agree, that a little bit of adult recreation and entertainment would be necessary in a community(for things like morale, tension relief, group relations, fulfillment, satisfaction, helping everyone to feel a little more human and keeping them in check). And I’m not against alcohol being served during a celebratory event, like the fair. But what about after the fair? You think the liquor will stop flowing? No, it certainly won’t. So, once the fair is done, they will need a way to sell and serve and consume this alcohol. Cue the ASZ saloon. As we all know, bars breed trouble. It going to be one big chain reaction, granted it will take years for it to really sink it’s hooks in, and by then, hopefully the community, and it’s government and law enforcement have grown along with it.
Also, alcohol sustenance, or a primitive survival mainstay is grasping at straws, if not a joke all together. I could maybe understand that sentiment, if you were in the most desperate and dire of situations, and all you had was a bottle of corn liquor. But, it’s not like the guys are exactly scavenging for ketchup packets and eating cat food anymore. They don’t need to resort to desperate means of nutrition. They have a freaking flour-mill for crying out loud! I don’t think they need to be on a liquid diet.
Rick’s Michonne comment at least mostly confirms Michonne is alive, but not on speaking terms with Rick and possibly most of everyone. Is she still with Ezekiel? Is she at the Kingdom? Where’s buttons!?!?!?!? OK, ignore that last one.
Crazy lazy who stabbed Eric stole buttons back in issue #78.
We want Buttons back. :c
I think she has her own group if she isn’t with Ezekiel. She really is a born leader .
That would really be crazy! I love how we have so many different groups and places now
Me too . If I’m remembering correctly. There were a couple communities that we didn’t get to see yet that Jesus mentioned .
Yeah, they were mentioned when Jesus was first introduced. As far as I can tell, Kirkman sorta forgot about the smaller communities, but who knows? Maybe they have a super elaborate network going right now.
Here, I found the panel where Jesus mentions the other communities. He says there’s two others besides the Hilltop. And he mentions there’s a community just to the west of ASZ that reported hearing gunfire nearby, that’s why Jesus went looking. But I can’t help but wonder, if the other two communities he was referring to were just the Kingdom and the Sanctuary?
You have a point.
That’s what I was thinking
Here’s the page
The most obvious reason why Michonne and Rick wouldn’t be talking would be because of keeping Negan alive…. so I doubt thats why theyre not talking. Kirkman is very good at making us think one thing, but meanwhile its the total opposite of what we were thinking the whole time. I’m guessing Michonne did something behind Ricks back OR some conflict between Dwights Saviors that caused Rick/Michonne to take sides.
I just read the end of the war and Michonne tells to Rick that she learned at not to disagree of him and she thinks he made the right decision.
Yes I remember this
Doubt about Michonne made me reread the 125 edition and I saw that she was hit by a weapon of saviors, just do not know if this weapon was contaminated with the blood of zombies.
126
Pardon me if this was already mentioned by someone else but I just had a thought while looking through this issue again.
What if when Dante sees the walkers outside the barn and says “Oh, Jesus.” He’s not meaning “Oh, fuck!” What if what he really means is “Oh, hi Jesus.”
We know Jesus is out herding walkers and finding new people. He could a.) have been leading a group of walkers into the barn to destroy them, oh yeah and he has Ken totally safe on the back of his horse too. Or b.) he’s found people walking with the walkers and he is trying it out to lead the walkers around. That’s why Marco and Ken heard talking in the herd too.
It would be even better if he’s responding to something silly that Jesus did.
“Did Jesus dress that walker up as Batman? Oh, Jesus!”
I’m glad someone is on board with this!
Sophia turned into a badass but too bad she didn’t make the cut in the TV show, maybe we’ll get a badass Beth down the road?
I know being the new kid is hard, but kidnapping one of the top dogs of the group certainly isn’t gonna help Magna’s group make any friends.
Just as my desire for Ezekiel’s shirt dies down, you guys show me Earl’s shirt. Thanks a bunch…
It’s already October? Has left the new edition? I can not wait to know what happened with Michonne, this is definitely going to kill me. Michonne is the best female character, the only woman who was in every battle. Andrea just stood there protected the walls or towers. It is very stupid to kill Michonnel. OMG, it really will kill me.
I still hope Michonne’s alive, but the evidence shows otherwise. It will be
really sad, I think Michonne is the most interesting and strong female
character. I’m already very upset about Rick being so old and frail when
and if confirmed the death of Michonne, I no longer have interest in
the comics.
I doubt she’s dead, that would be too obvious. These comics haven’t been very predictable lately.
I’m sorry. I still can’t take new Carl seriously with his long hair and half-sun glasses. Dude… if you’re gonna keep that hair, at least find an eye patch so you can channel your inner Snake Pliskin when you start growing some 5 o’clock shadow. You can use Negan’s leather coat to complete the outfit.
He had the same hair style two years ago. In fact, it was even longer because he didn’t have the glasses to cover his eye. I really fail to see the issue.
The only reason no one seemed to notice before is because he always wore a hat over his naturally black hair.
Carl looks like a fanny bandit now. Accept it.
Considering that there is no such determined look for a “fanny bandit” besides one’s own prejudices, I will not.
Carl, if you want to win Sophia…. Ditch the glasses, find an eye patch and wear Negan’s coat. Channel you inner Plissken. I would have hit you on purpose for being an emo wannbe if Sophia hadn’t hit you accidently.
Oh no, he wears glasses instead of an eye patch. Totally emo.
Really, though. He’s been rather chipper and polite. He seems more approachable than he did a couple years ago.
I’m digging this look, but I think Sophia would have traumatic flashbacks if Carl was wearing Negan’s coat XD
The drawing vaguely resembles the TV governor. With the short hair and the eye patch.
I loved it. Excited for the new one
The dead aren’t talking and Marco isn’t crazy.
There’s people living in the herd, and their leader is Michonne.
Regarding Michonne again… maybe it was Ezekiel that Rick had a problem with. At this point, Michonne was in love with/very attatched to Ezekiel, and not wanting to get in the middle between her lover and her friend, she opted to just stop speaking to Rick and stay in the Kingdom. Or maybe something happened to Ezekiel and Michonne blamed Rick for it. It could also be a fight between Michonne and/or Ezekiel and Andrea, and Rick of course would side more with Andrea. Hopefully we’ll find out in October! *gnaws fingernails nervously*
Or we can’t predict anything correctly at all, because Kirkman makes everything impossible to guess.
Someone needs to kill magna fast I know its only been a few issues but not a fan of the character
Yeah well, no way Magna’s group can stand up to the full force of Alexandria.
Allright so I’m gonna go out on a limb here about michonne and say that she is off being a rogue like she was before she came to rick’s group. some sort of bad blood ensued with rick and michonne and she took off. the walkers talking is michonne doing what she did before and she was talking to her dead boyfriend again possibly?
That would be a big regression for Michonne, I think is not what is happening.
Congrats on the win @Jake Maese ! I really like you’re comment; like father like son. They even have the same taste in women. LOL
I almost thought I was going to win again for a moment there; but that would have been unfair. 😛
Hey I missed this one. Anyone know if this is going to be reprinted?
I miss the original covers (logos)
