This week, as part of Throwback Thursday, we decided to take a look at some of the most memorable phrases from the early years of the Walking Dead. It was a simpler time in the first 50 issues, a time of less Negan and thus, less cursing.

Now that I think about it, I’m not sure if this is in the first 50 issues. I read it in volume 9 (which, as we all know, collects issues 49-54). Close enough I suppose.
That quote is like from Issue 54…

when i saw the post before i even got to see the options, this was inone was in my mind, its stuck with me all these years so its got to be “we are the walking dead” 🙂
I remember the feeling that it gave me when I turned the page. Whoa!
in the context of mentally where Rick was at and the great speech that he gave just before the line was delivered, got to be one of the most iconic lines, easily, a great moment.
That line really stuck with me too… and I thought “the walking dead” referred to the “zombies”. it fit so perfectly.
I was thinking the same thing. That’s why it hit me the way it did when I read that Rick was actually describing himself & his people.

Doesn’t get much better than “We ARE the Walking Dead.”
But that was over 100 issues ago now (Holy shit). It no longer really matches the philosophy and strength that our central characters have developed.

Agree. The only one up there in that list that doesn’t quite fit the bill as “iconic” (but is memorable), IMO, is “You’re eating tainted meat! Tainted meat!”…although that’s certainly one of my all-time favorite moments in the whole comic.
They’re all pretty damn memorable that’s for sure!
The more recent “I believe in Rick Grimes” that Maggie said during All Out War was pretty darn memorable, I think.

Rick’s entire speech in #24 is just really damn memorable. It gives me goosebumps each time I read it. It’s really that transition point where Rick Grimes becomes an altogether different man from who he was in #1.
I like Arggghhh. It happens like every page, walkers only line. Yep, Arggghhh is memorable.

Definitely We ARE the walking dead. That was amazing. I actually memorized the entire We are the walking dead monologue and performed it in drama class last month. So awesome!

“Well Stranger… We’re feeding them strangers!”. Always loved that line. Perfect way to finish that issue!

It’s not a quote, but I don’t think there’s been an issue that’s gone by since Michonne debuted in 19 that I haven’t read “SVAASH” at least a half a dozen times
My favorite line’s right before the governor, used the kitana to whacked Hershel Greene on the neck… and whispered, “LIAR.”
