Disruptor Beam’s new mobile game The Walking Dead: March To War is getting closer to dropping on your phones! To help celebrate the upcoming release, Erika Ishii got to sit down with Creative Director Joey Lapegna to dig through the game’s fundamental look, style and overall story.
I gotta say, first and foremost – the art in March to War is incredible.
I’ve never seen art like this incorporated so well into a video game, let alone a mobile game. Joey’s team did an amazing job. They essentially created an intelligent algorithm and formula to take their basic art assets, organize them, arrange them into settings, and utilize them even better than doing this in a manual way. How incredible is that?! But even more potentially tantalizing is the story.
This game takes place during the same time period and arc of the same name in the comics – March To War. Set in a and around Washington DC, you’ll come to discover the same colonies and groups you’ve grown accustomed to – The Kingdom, Hilltop, Alexandria, and the Sanctuary. You can also find some notable landmarks yet to be seen much in the post apocalypse that you may have heard of, even a giant white home.
Included are some of the main characters from the comics as what are called “Council Members”. They are important to building your team and creating leadership that will help you in different ways. However, the most important people are the Survivors – random characters that you’ll need to customize, strengthen, and organize in order to continue to make your team the best it can be.
An important aspect to defeating hordes of zombies is teaming up with your friends. It’s multiplayer, guys!
You and your friends can gang up and complete raids and other missions in order to survive and create stronger alliances.
It’s not all oranges and peaches and cake (that’s a weird combination of foods). You’ll continually face obstacles, zombies and enemies that will force you to decide your team’s specialty. Any survivors on your team that don’t fit that mold may not be worth wasting your resources on. You’ll have some seriously difficult decisions to make at every stop along the way.
We’re hoping you dig into this interview – Joey really lays down some excellent information on how to get started on the game when it comes out, and what you can expect to face when you start creating your team.
