In a first for us, we are trusting another writer to swim in the waters of The Walking Dead. At some point in the last few months, what started as a semi-jokey exchange between Robert Kirkman and Brian K Vaughan ended up in some very cool talks about Panel Syndicate, Private Eye, Image, Skybound, and The Walking Dead.
We’re very, VERY excited to announce that Brian K Vaughan will be writing an original Walking Dead story with Marcos Martin on art duties and Muntsa Vicente taking care of the colors.
If you don’t know, Panel Syndicate is a platform for creators to distribute their comics digitally, DRM-free, and at a pay-what-you-want cost. PRIVATE EYE is a comic from writer Brian K Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Saga) and artist Marcos Martin (Batgirl: Year One, The Amazing Spider-Man, Daredevil). This deal will bring Private Eye to print for the first time via Image Comics and it will bring The Walking Dead to the digital-only platform of Panel Syndicate. Private Eye previously has only been available on the Panel Syndicate platform.
What story will BKV and Marcos tell?! We’re not telling! But it sounds AMAZING.
Stay tuned to Image Comics for more on Private Eye’s print release (it really is a great comic, told in a dreamy future world without Internet where privacy is everything and journalism is law—check it out if you haven’t).
I don’t know how I feel about this….
Ok then. Sorta stunned, is how I feel.
One-shot? Limited series? Brian K Vaughan ROCKS! I’m in!!!
limited 4 issues series maybe telling Negan’s back story?
Oooo! Negan’s back story… we NEED it!! YES!! I would prefer Bonansinga hook it up, but if Vaughan decides he wants to bring it, I’m with it!!
No. Just no. Bonansinga is a terrible author. There’s such a thing as vividly descriptive detail; and then there’s the ridiculous, obnoxious , and convoluted use of adjectives that Jay frequently engages in. By the time you finish a sentence in a Bonansinga book, after about 30 adjectives, 15 commas, and a few semi-colons–you’ve completely forgotten what the subject and predicate of said sentence even were.
I have no issues with his writing. He keeps me engaged. Bonansinga ain’t no Stephen King but I’ve read a lot worse… by far!!!
To clarify, BKV just said that the comic will be in black and white, so the colors mentioned in the article are most likely just on the cover. Also, he said that he will probably not reveal how the apocalypse started, but he could if he wanted to, as Kirkman would probably let him. (Obviously he was joking, but just some interesting info)
As long as we have the current storyline continued by Kirkman and Adlard, this sounds great. I’m totally up for a second Walking Dead book. Two books, two shows….hell yeah!
LOVE Brian K Vaughn so I am so down for this ride.
I’ve enjoyed Y:TLM, Saga, and Ex Machina quite a bit. I trust he’ll bring something great to the table.
this is a great news
Oh my. This sounds pretty fucking awesome.
Wonder what the status is on this.
