INVINCIBLE #111 marks Ryan Ottley’s 100th issue of Invincible! We decided to ask him a few questions about what it’s been like working on Invincible for over a decade!
Congrats on making it to your 100th issue! Did you ever think you’d see the day?
Yes! At first I didn’t think I’d do that many, but after a few years I realized how much I loved this book and working with Robert that I was perfectly fine with staying on as long as possible!
How do you keep Invincible feeling fresh, since you’ve been working on the series for over a decade?
Well, I don’t look at it as one giant project. Each issue is a new project where I need to turn in my best work, better than my last issue.
Looking back (time to get nostalgic) what was your favorite issue of Invincible to work on?
The newest one!
Invincible is going in a new, darker direction. Has this influenced your art style at all in the current and upcoming issues?
No. I’ve always drawn dark things in this book, there is just a lot right now in these current issues!
Who is your favorite character to draw right now?
Let’s see, I love drawing immense characters. Thragg is fun. Mauler is always fun. I’d have to say the new Doc Siesmic is my fave right now though.
If you could have the powers of any Invincible character… who would it be?
Phillip Schaff. Award winning author of Science Dog! He’s such a good writer!
Thanks, Ryan! It was great chatting with you! INVINCIBLE #111 is available now!
Ryan is a phenomenal artist…. And a really nice guy. Had the chance to meet him a few years ago at a con here in St.Louis and got two amazing sketches done…. Will always be a fan of his work.
