It’s hard to believe that in three seasons of The Walking Dead, Morgan and Dwight never interacted with each other. “We had been in scenes together but our characters had never spoken, which is very interesting,” Morgan actor Lennie James recently told the New York Daily News. “Myself and Austin got together and sat down and plotted out our mutual histories and what we might have known about each other. We never interacted.”
Last time the two shared a scene together was the final battle of All Out War in The Walking Dead Season 8 Finale. “I think because of the battle with Negan and the role that Dwight played in that that, Morgan would have been privy to some of the subterfuge that was going on there,” James said. “We had been in maybe two scenes but they were huge battle scenes or crossing paths. We kept trying to find someplace where we nodded or shook hands or were in the same room together and there just wasn’t. So it was really exciting when that happened over here.”
Despite their lack of character interactivity, the two are set to “reunite” in Texas for Fear the Walking Dead Season 5. We’ll find Morgan helping his friends locate survivors on Al’s tapes while Dwight continues his mission to find his wife Sherry. At some point in the first few episodes the two will meet and presumably join forces (see the trailer below). “A lot of (Morgan’s) journey to helping people, for not just Morgan, is an attempt to try and heal yourself,” James said. “He’s very open about the fact that his helping other people isn’t just a benevolent act. It’s also about feeling like it’s possible to make up for some of the things he’s done in the past.” Can Morgan help Dwight in his quest? Tune in on June 2nd to find out!
You can check out the rest of the interview at New York Daily News. Fear the Walking Dead Season 5 premieres this Sunday, June 2nd on AMC (and this Monday, June 3rd on FOX for some international fans). What are you most excited to see between Morgan and Dwight this season?
Can’t wait to see where this series goes! Also I am liking the way this series has been reinventing itself! Using it for crossover characters has been interesting!
