Let the bodies hit the floor! Invincible Season 2 contained a lot of brutal bloodletting. So, as we wait for Season 3, we thought it might be fun to break down some of this season’s nastiest kills. With 2,897 to choose from (trust us, we counted), it was hard to narrow it down to 5, but it’s easier than going toe-to-toe with a Viltrumite! Here are the top 5 kills of Invincible Season 2….
Murder Victim: Immortal (well, a multiverse counterpart of him)
Killer: Omni-Man and Invincible (again, multiverse counterparts)
Scene of the Crime: Invincible 201, “A Lesson for Your Next Life”
Method of Death: Head trauma. MASSIVE head trauma.
What Went Down: Season 2 gave us a glimpse of an alternate reality where Invincible helped Omni-Man take over Earth. Immortal tried to fight back, but there’s only so much you could do against two Viltrumites. Omni-Man ripped through both of Immortal’s arms, then punched his head right off his body. Invincible caught the head and squeezed it until it exploded into a gusher of blood and brain matter.
How They Could’ve Been Saved: Maybe a helmet? Then again, it probably would’ve just bought him a few seconds.
Chances of Resurrection: His name is Immortal, so I wouldn’t rule anything out. But it’s pretty hard to come back from a smashed head.
Murder Victim: King Mauler
Killer: Mauler clone
Scene of the Crime: Invincible 204, “It’s Been a While”
Method of Death: Poisoning
What Went Down: The dynamic with the Mauler Twins isn’t something that should be messed with. The twins will only work together if there is some ambiguity over who the clone is, and who the original is. Once that ambiguity is gone, the power dynamic changes. Case in point, when an explosion left one partially scarred Mauler, he created a clone and used his disfigurement to make it clear who the original was. Dubbing himself King Mauler, the original treated the clone like a slave. The clone eventually had enough and served King Mauler poisoned lemonade.
How They Could’ve Been Saved: Honestly, Mauler should have seen this coming. Come on man, he was a clone of you! Shouldn’t you be familiar with his thinking?
Chances of Resurrection: Only if you count cloning as resurrection. Otherwise, this king’s reign is over.
Murder Victim: Iguana
Killer: Rex Splode
Scene of the Crime: Invincible 205, “This Must Come as a Shock”
Method of Death: Filleted
What Went Down: With the rest of the Guardians of the Globe on a space mission, Rex Splode, Dupli-Kate, and Shrinking Rae stayed behind to defend Earth. The substitute heroes battled with the Lizard League, but Shrinking Rae and Dupli-Kate were (seemingly) killed in action. Disoriented, alone, and afraid, Rex Splode did his best to survive. As Iguana furiously advanced, Rex panicked and began throwing his charged iron bars. At first, Iguana swiftly dodged each bar, until one of them hit her mid-section, slicing her in half.
How They Could’ve Been Saved: Honestly, Rex got lucky here. He was blindly throwing his iron bars, and it was sheer chance that one hit Iguana. One inch to the left or right would’ve saved her.
Chances of Resurrection: She’s been split in half. People in Invincible have come back from worse, but I don’t think any powerful scientists are itching to save Iguana.
Murder Victim: Komodo Dragon
Killer: Rex Splode
Scene of the Crime: Invincible 205, “This Must Come as a Shock”
Method of Death: Poor diet
What Went Down: After barely surviving his fight with Iguana, Rex was forced to deal with Komodo Dragon. Rex attempted to throw a charged disk at the powerhouse, but Komodo Dragon grabbed the hero’s hand and BIT IT OFF! Rex’s hand detonated from inside Komodo Dragon’s mouth, causing the villain’s head to explode.
How They Could’ve Been Saved: Komodo Dragon shouldn’t put everything in his mouth. It’s weird. Earlier in the episode he swallowed Shrinking Rae, and then he was killed by swallowing Rex’s hand. Even if he’d survived this encounter, his habit of PUTTING THINGS IN HIS MOUTH DURING A BATTLE would’ve eventually gotten him killed.
Chances of Resurrection: Well, his head exploded. Even if he did come back, his habit of sticking things in his mouth would just get him killed again.
Murder Victim: Angstrom Levy
Killer: Invincible
Scene of the Crime: Invincible 208, “I Thought You Were Stronger”
Method of Death: Pulverization
What Went Down: Angstrom Levy used his multiversal powers to send Invincible through a series of portals. These portals kept Mark from making contact with Levy, but that only worked for so long. Invincible was finally able to grab hold of Angstrom, and what happened next was less of a battle and more of a beating. Mark assumed Angstrom had some sort of super-strength or durability, so he unleashed his fury on the villain. To Mark’s surprise, he pulverized Angstrom into a pool of blood. “I thought you were stronger,” Mark said with shock and horror.
How They Could’ve Been Saved: Don’t pick a fight with a Viltrumite, and NEVER EVER threaten their mother.
Chances of Resurrection: Angstrom comes back in the comics, but the animated series has strayed from the source material before. Still, I think there’s a pretty good chance we’ll see Angstrom again.
Those were some pretty brutal kills. In fact, I hear Cecil Stedman’s G.D.A. sanitation team is still mopping up the blood. They’d better hurry, because I have a feeling Season 3 is going to bring us even more mayhem and gore.
